Heat will have throwback jerseys this year

Mon Sep 19, 2005 3:57 am

Instead of reaching back in to its own short history, the Heat will join the throwback jersey craze by looking to an old Miami ABA team, with which it has no affiliation.

The 18-year-old team will wear the road jerseys of the 1971-72 Miami Floridians for six home games and one road game.

The move is a marketing opportunity, but it remains to be seen how many fans will snap up the black jerseys with the thick magenta stripe. The Heat will wear them with shorts in the style worn today, not the short 1970s variety.

Heat President Pat Riley said the uniforms look "Miami-ish."

"They're actually pretty sharp. They're hot," Riley said. "And to contemporize them, with certain fabrics and lengths of shorts, makes them look actually pretty nice. But, if in fact you really ever wanted the players to really go back in time, to wear exactly what they wore, they'd be embarrassed. They'd be thinking they're wearing thongs."

c'mon man, you can post something better than that.

Anyways, I dont think those jerseys are the right thing for the Heat. I mean that ABA team had nothing to do with the heat, why wear their jerseys?

And those jerseys don't look so good from the pictures.

Mon Sep 19, 2005 4:47 pm

Hmm, I dont like them but they did say once its made in new material.. it'd look hot... oh well.. and I son't wanna see Shaq in a tight 1970's style jersey... (N)

Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:13 pm

Original idea, though I think the jerseys they wore from their inaugural year through the 90s qualify as retro these days. I wouldn't mind seeing those again on retro nights.

Mon Sep 19, 2005 11:50 pm

^^Yeah I think so too. Those would be better, these have no history.

By the way Andrew, Conan is corny.

Tue Sep 20, 2005 4:32 am

Tue Sep 20, 2005 12:42 pm

Agree with that, too. Those jerseys were pretty good (Y) I loved to play with those in Live :P
