Damon Jones to sign with Cavs

Thu Sep 08, 2005 4:09 am

They need a shooter and another ball handler so it's a good pick up. Better than adding L.H. in my opinion. I don't think it matters either way for the heat because they are stacked with guys who need the ball in their hands and Damon was probably going to be the odd man out there.

While i have a lot of respect for DJ, i never considered him as a PG. Let's face it, he's not a great ball handler/passer(4.3apg) is not good enough for a PG. The Cavs need a passer especially if they have LBJ and Hughes on their team. They need a player who can assist these guys. But not a bad pick up either. The cavs finally get a shooter that they need.

James and Hughes will dish too so it's all good.

AWESOME need signing for the Cavs. They needed a point guard who could shoot the ball. Jones fits right in.

Of course, he's not the best playmaker, but Lebron and Larry can fill that position. All Damon has to do is stand around and hit open shots.

That's what you want your point guard- the floor general- to do?

Huge move by Cleveland IMO. The thing that makes this work is that while Damon Jones is not a real PG by any means, Lebron has the passing skills of a true PG, and Larry Hughes is a good passer when he's not hogging. They have now improved their 3PT shooting 10 times as much as last season.

PG - Damon Jones
SG - Larry Hughes
SF - Lebron James
PF - Donyell Marshall
C - Zydrunas Ilguaskas
6th Man [PF/SF] - Drew Gooden
7th man [PG] - Eric Snow
8th man [SG/SF] Luke Jackson
9th man [SF/SG] Ira Newble
10th man [SG/SF] Aleksandar Pavlovic

Varejao is injured till probably about December, and the Cavs are going after another big man. If and when they do get one, he will likely replace Pavlovic in the main 10 man rotation, and when Varejao returns, he'll be the 7-9th man as a PF/C.

Good signing and for there other bigman off the bench i read somwhere that they were going after Jahidi White. He can come in there and do some rebounding.

When you have Lebron James and Larry Hughes, that's all he has to do.

The only PGs - floor general that I know of are Jason Kidd and Steve Nash today. Not all PGs are considered floor generals.

Thu Sep 08, 2005 10:02 am

Andre Miller and Luke Ridnour?

Thu Sep 08, 2005 10:54 am

Brevin Knight could be added to the list, and even Mike Bibby...

Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:39 am

Yeh but who needs a floor general when they got LeBron and Hughes?

All we needed was a capable point guard, and hes more than capable!
Cleveland, with Bron and Hughes dont need a PG who will bring the ball up and run plays or what not, Bron and Hughes can do that....

Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:39 am

what is Larry Hughes and James is on the bench or injured? what would you do about the passing?? Either way you still need a true point guard.

Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:46 am

They still got Snow and Luke Jackson, right?

Luke is more of a 2 guard and a small foward than a point guard.

man now the cavs have a team that can make a run....they have hughes, lebron,Zy,gooden, and now a REAL good PG Damon Jones (Y) I still think the top 3 teams in East:
1.Heat
2.Pistons
3.Pacers
7.cavs :D
WEST:
1.Spurs
2.Rockets
3.Suns :D

cq , please . First of all , Damon Jones isn't a REAL good pg , hes alright . Solid shooter and an average PG overall. and 2nd of all , you have the cavs instead of the pacers. That has to be the stupidest thing I have seen. Use logic when you post , because its pretty obvious cavs aren't top 3 , top 5 probably , but not top 3.

Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:00 pm

i know i was going to put pacers...their my team..behind the rockets...but i think the cavs' can @ least get a better record than last year...maybe even make the playoffs

Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:04 pm

They probably will get a better record and probably will make the playoffs , that doesn't mean they are one of the top 3 teams in the east.

Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:09 pm

excellent pickup

Cavs add Marshall, Hughes & DJ....Easts MIT

Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:31 pm

Finally, Jones now signed with the Heat. This is just what the Cavs needs, a good 3 point shooter. This is what they are missing from the last season. Hope the addition of Hughes, Marshall and Jones payoff for the Cavs and Cavs should have no problem in getting a playoff spot in this season.

Thu Sep 08, 2005 1:37 pm

Add Tinsley to the list of floor generals too.

cq, you make zero sense. Ever.
