Then why are we comparing Heat to the Lakers then? I mean, all the good things and bad things they say about NVE apply to Walker. (Except Walker rebounds much better and Nick Van Exel is much quicker) Finley is quite different from Jason Williams, but I'd say they are around the same level right now since Finley is in the downside. Maybe Finley is a bit better, but Walker's rebounds make up for it. Also, Walker and Jason Williams haven't been bad locker room influences in a while.
So just do one thing or the other. Either don't compare those two teams to the Lakers, or compare them both, because all I see is hypocrisy.
Okay, take out all new additions both to the Heat and the Spurs. Then consider D-Jones is probably out of Miami. Then think about the Spurs winning the title last year. Who's better? Now that they both have acquirwed 'equal' level of new talent, as per you saying?

The main difference is that the Spurs added both Finley and Van Exel without breaking up a core that just won a championship. If Finley and Van Exel don't pan out, the Spurs could cut or maybe even trade them leaving them with basically the same group of players that proved themselves capable of winning it all. It's a very low risk move.
In comparison, the Heat will be exchanging players through trades and letting free agents walk. With Walker and Williams' track records (though given the way Walker performed with the Celtics last year perhaps it's too soon to write him off) it's a much bigger risk, and they can't fall back on last year's core since two starters and a key reserve are now gone.
The Spurs have a much bigger safety net, though I do see where bangyounh is coming from.

Wow. What a rocket scientist.

Look, I'm not saying the Heat are better than Spurs. On paper, of course the Spurs look better. All I'm saying is...if people are going to compare the Heat to the Lakers, compare the Spurs to the Lakers, or don't do any of those.
Also, I believe now that we have the Mid Level exception, Damon Jones is almost guaranteed to sign with the Heat since we can offer even more than Cavs.

That should be great, nothings works better than a point guard tandem of Jason Williams and Damon Jones.

just cause they signed these 2 players does not mean they are sure to win it all. are they clearly the favorite? yeah sure, but there is no sure thing in the nba.
as for why do people compare it to the lakers, i mean, do you really need that to be explained? its simply cause of total talent. you dont want to compare to the lakers? fine, how about the kings. they had all the talent in the world and never won shit. the mavs, also a shit load of talent, still no ring though.
now the one thing i think seperates the spurs is the team work. they are like the pistons of the west, just with more talent. sometimes signings like this mess that up, i dont believe it will personally.

Again, the difference is the Spurs can cut Finley and Van Exel and they've still got essentially the same team (especially if they match the offer sheet on Devin Brown) that just won a championship. If chemistry becomes a problem, they've got a big safety net. They
I agree that adding those players doesn't guarantee a repeat but it can't hurt them as much as Miami's wheeling and dealing might hurt them, since San Antonio's moves are addition without subtraction.
Mon Sep 05, 2005 1:51 am
yeah thats the big thing, like when they nabbed the big dog last year. still compared to miami they are much better off, neither of those players are the kind to bring a team down. cant say the same for walker and williams.

It amazes me that people can't understand this simple thing. The Spurs have not altered their championship roster just added to their bench. The previous Lakers(2004) and current Heat teams have cut into their teams chemistry by changing their teams from one season ago. Not the same team on the floor. The Spurs still have the same 7 guys that they rotated in the playoffs and added two potent
bench players. I think we'll see Devin in a Jazz uniform by Tuesday. The only question they have is will these two struggle like Barry did and I sincerely doubt both will especially Michael Finley who I feel will greatly fit the offense and defense the Spurs have over a period of time. Nick is a question mark but we know he is there because he can shoot and because of how the Pistons made Beno look like a kid when they trapped him during the Finals. (Parker better work with the new shooting coach and improve or the Spurs may need to look for another PG, though he is still young and has time to improve they got some insurance)

Walker is a great motivator to the team I remember him during the playoffs when he was playing for Boston they were down big and during timeout he shouted all his teammates to control the game more focus and all those stuffs, that is the sign of a true winner.Williams is a little bit scary especially in crunch time but this guy can really play big..I love his enthusiasm in the game, his playmaking styles which will give crowd to be alive which can eventually start the fire power..This players for me will help miami anyway they will not contribute big time especially scoring is concern but their specific role is much important, what role it is I dont know..only Pat & stan knows..

ok dont get me wrong here, walker can be a great addition to your team, but he can also be a cancer. i believe the same is true for williams just to a lesser extreme. when walker is in the right frame of mind and plays with in the game and does not try to much he is a damn good player to have on the court. his problem is every now and then he acts like he is bird going against nique and he cant miss a damn shot so he just fires it up on every touch.
Mon Sep 05, 2005 6:08 am
well he isn't in boston anymore so he can't act like he is bird.

I think its funny that people think that Walker is a leader. The same Antoine Walker that slows down every offense he plays with because he's fat and lazy? The same Fatoine that throws up a minimum of 8 or 9 threes a game, averaging about 3 or 4 airballs a game? The same Fatoine that makes a broadway tragedy about every single foul called? The same Fatoine that said Conseco was closed after winning game 6 and forcing a 7th game, only to get beaten by 20+ points in game 7? The same Fatoine that whined SO much in Dallas they were willing to trade him for just about anyone? Keep in mind he was playing 35 minutes a game for Dallas and STILL whined just because he wasn't on the court when the tip-off happened. Fatoine Walker will never, EVER win an NBA championship. The little bitch.

I doubt they'll even sign Mahinmi since the team's pretty much packed with big men

Mahinmi is a first round draft pick. Unless he stays overseas, he has a guarenteed contract.

look at the bench..that bench players can even win games against some Eastern teams
Mon Sep 05, 2005 3:09 pm
I think the bench could win games against some teams in the entire NBA , east or west . The east isn't that bad...

I was thinking he'd go back to Europe for a while seeing as they got Oberto. Unless Rasho gets traded of course. I'd doubt both of them will be staying
