nope, still going....I never said it was finished....just had a little hiatus
and Sit, looks like Aussies won it comfortably....NZ isn't looking good for World Champs or even Commonwealth Games....with Sean Marks retired from international basketball, losing a quality big like him really hurts our already small lineup....especially with Aussies having guys like Andersen and Bogut and so on....it doesn't seem like Penney played during series but can't be sure....Penney is probably the team's No. 1 player now....Australia has to be favourites for Commonwealth gold....main competition will probably come from Canada I'd say....NZ is a medal chance if they get rolling....

2007 OFF-SEASON COVERAGE
FREE AGENCY SIGNING PERIOD
Well, with the draft completed it's time to move onto the free agency signing period. Before free agency my roster looks like this:
C - Guy Dumars/Nene
PF- Emeka Okafor/Tiago Splitter
SF- Bobby Simmons
SG- Rashad McCants (R)/Luther Head/Alex Acker (R)
PG- Gilbert Arenas/Marko Jaric/Ben Tshibaka
So as you can all see I need a starting SG first and foremost. My 2nd priority is a backup SF. Then my 3rd piority has to be to add some insurance in the frontcourt. Backcourt is pretty stocked so not much work is needed there apart from that starting SG spot.
As I entered the available free agents, I was once again disappointed to see that there was not much talent left in free agency as all the top free agents were re-signed by their respective teams.
Joe Johnson is probably the top free agent available at this point in my price range and if signed, would provide a superb starting backcourt for the Bobcats alongside G.A. The other option if the JJ signing fails is to sign someone like Jerry Stackhouse to a short term deal. Obviously, the 1st option is better as JJ is still young and has room to grow and is asking for a small contract ($6.76m per). He must want out of Phoenix or something and to become the man.

I started out by immediately by going after the 1 players who I thought could really help my team, Joe Johnson.
Bobcats sign Joe Johnson
The Charlotte Bobcats are happy to announce the signing of SG Joe Johnson to a 2 year, $12.5 million deal. The deal is backloaded with an annual increases of 10%.
Joe Johnson was asking for a 2 year, $12.52 million deal, which is probably to try and prove himself for his big payday in 2 years time. I tried to lock up JJ for a 4 year, $25 million deal.
His agent wasn't stupid as he quickly rejected the offer that I had on the table.
Realising I didn't want to lose Johnson to another team, I wanted to get him signed up quickly and relented by offering JJ a 2 year, $12.5 million deal.
Realising that he probably wasn't going to get any better offers in the open market, Joe Johnson decided to say goodbye to the desert and accept the Bobcats' offer.
I think this signing was a great coup for the Charlotte Bobcats who will finally add a very good SG into their starting lineup. Gone are days of Keith Bogans or Andrew Watson starting at the SG position. Apart from his ability to shoot the 3 and lock up other team's guards, it was JJ's versatility that really appealled to the Bobcats. Whilst he will defend opposing team's SG's, Joe Johnson will likely take the pressure off Gilbert Arenas and assume some of the ballhandling abilities, which will allow Arenas to do what he does best, score, and not have to worry so much about getting everyone else involved. I don't know what this means for rookie Rashad McCants, who only a few days ago, for all intensive purposes was going to be the team's starting SG. Now there is a logjam in the backcourt that needs to be sorted.
The 'Cats will be hoping for a lot more of this over the coming years

Very big and smart signing there, X. Since you're in the Eastern Conference, this backcourt will lift you far into the play-offs I think.
Maybe you can still sign a nice back-up SF too, not sure how your team is money-wise. Maybe trade one of your many guards for a young SF.

Nice job on the JJ siging X, I think you deffinately need to trade someone in your back court for a back up bigman, possibly a SF/PF would be nice, I think in your situation id look to move Jaric since you could play McCants as PG too, or even JJ when GA is resting.
Also from the games i saw it appeared that Penney did play, he just wasnt that effective, Aaron Olsen had a better series IMO. Best thing for me was to see Lindsey Tait gettign time, that kid shud be trying to get in the NBA i rekon, hes got all the physical skills for a decent PG in the NBA.
Anyway good luck for the rest of the offseason

yep, it was the only player out there that made a lot of sense....as for a SF, you'll have to wait and see....

I think I'll hold onto Jaric for the time being....I was never sold on McCants, especially to run the point....Jaric is a guy who I can have coming off the bench and playing anywhere from PG to SF so you can't buy that sort of versatility (wait a sec, I just did with JJ )....
as for the Oceania series, so the Canadian born guy was the Kiwi's best player?!?
don't really know a lot about Lindsey Tait, all I know is that I watched him back up Mark Dickel capably in Athens last year....he's pretty good then?!? there are probably a thousand point guards around the world who would be good enough to play some role in the NBA so any path for Tait to the big league won't be easy at his position....as for Penney, I guess he's a spot-up shooter off screens like Reggie and Rip, so you need the rest of the team helping you get the open looks to be effective....

Yeah. Sorry I didnt make a bigger reply.. i was at school before. Anyways... JJ sounds so good for ur team. I'd call it a very GOOD fit. Just need a star claiber SF and ur set for another playoff run!

Hopefully this won't last for ever, as Pietrus is probably better suited to more time at the SG spot. This signing could spell the end of the chase of Andrew Watson unless other players are moved.

All that the Bobcats could offer under the salary cap was the league minimum of $745k. Watson was after a long-term deal that started at about double that, and averaging over $2 million per season.
Not willing to take no for an answer, the Bobcats tried to persuade Watson to accept a 1 year deal at league minimum and they would re-negotiate a fatter contract next season.
Not happy with what the Heat and Bobcats had to offer, Watson's agent informs the teams that all current offers have been rejected.
Another offer, another rejection. Watson will continue to wait it out for a better offer.
On the last day of the free agency period the Bobcats make one, last ditched effort to sign free agent guard Andrew Watson, and fail.

I guess they get what they deserve for not showing him enough respect and instead pursuing 2 other bigger name free agent SG's (JJ and Pietrus). ALL IS NOT OKAY FOR CEEKAY IN SALT LAKE
It has been reported that recently drafted NLSC SF Cyriel "ceekay" Klitsie will refuse to report to Salt Lake City for the Jazz. Klitsie has demanded a trade or else he will sign a long-term deal in Europe. The full reasons of this shocking demand are unknown. Makis "Dweaver" Hassakis was disappointed with his stock on the open market as the restricted free agent eventually relented and accepted the Suns' 4 year, $4.21 million qualifying offer. The signing was a bargain for the Suns as Hassakis is an improving big man who should be a fixture in this league for many years from now. With the departure of Joe Johnson to Charlotte, this opens up a starting spot for Hassakis, who will likely start at C, with Stoudemire, Marion and Richardson all sliding back to their natural positions, with Steve Nash running the show.
And here was I thinking that Weaver had already rented some warehouse storage space in Detroit

Despite reports that suggest 3rd year guard Andrew "The X" Watson was heading to Europe, it seems more likely that Watson will join the Heat's summer league squad with the hopes of earning a guaranteed contract out of it.

It has been reported that Orlando and Seattle are both looking at trading last season's draft picks, Will Sit and Jing "jxuusa" Xu. The Magic expected more of a playmaker when they used their 1st Round pick on the undersized Will Sit. Instead what they got was a SG trapped in a grossly undersized PG's body, and with an attitude to top it off. The Magic will be happy to just get this kid out of their hair quickly. There should be a couple of suitors for Sit as he has very good scoring ability with the potential to be a playmaker. His size hurts though.
Could this be the last we see of Sit in Disneyworld?!?
As for Xu, he was under-utilised in his rookie year, and with the drafting of high schooler, Sam "CB4" Anurak, this spells the end of the day for Jing Xu. It seems strange that the Sonics would give up on the kid so fast as he has a lot of talent to boot and is just starting to learn his place in the league. There is no shortage of suitors for Xu, but the question is will the Sonics get any meaningful players back in exchange for the young talent.
All he wanted was a chance, he never got it. His chance could be coming soon
