Wrong section. Don't double post. Read the rules.
Welcome.
Edit:
How can Tim Duncan be over-rated? Pure fundamentals. That's over-rated? Right, he led his team to a championship & he's over-rated.
Why is Anthony over-rated? Based on what criteria?
Andrew Bogut? The kid hasn't even played a game in the NBA & already he's over-rated? Is this like some Bulls' fan just having blind hate towards the player that resembles MJ most? Probably is.
Yao Ming? No comments.
Drew Gooden? How often do you hear someone rambling off that Drew Gooden is the greatest of all time? Seriously, your list is kind of crappy.

Tim Duncan? Drew Gooden a top 5 overatted player? Who's overatting Gooden?
Tue Aug 23, 2005 8:09 am
Vladmir Radmanovic is one that comes to mind. Perhaps Josh Smith, simply because of the Slam Dunk Contest?
Tue Aug 23, 2005 8:35 am
Dirk Nowitzki should be on that list.

what a stupid thread...

Jackal, Duncan is a great player but that doesn't mean he isn't overrated. The media thinks he's the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 8:58 am
Tayshaun Prince went from underrated to overrated pretty quickly.

i believe this is base on your own opinion...
sounds like you hate the Spurs.
crap, oh crap...

That's bound to happen if you're the best PF ever.

Amen to that man.

I think this dude just posted the guys that he hates and thinks he is right!
Tue Aug 23, 2005 9:57 am
What kind of list is that? TD overrated..give me a break.
Make sure you watch those players play and then come up with a list
Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:11 am
Tim Duncan overrated??? NO WAY!!
He led his team to 3 championships, in 1999, 2003 and 2005, and has been named the Finals MVP in all of 'em... 22.5 ppg in career. There's no way Tim Duncan is overrated. He's one of those players that still remembers how to play traditional basketball, and he's probably the best Power Forward in NBA history.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:21 am
Kinda funny how some think Duncan is overrated. The media doesn't pay much attention to him considering how much he has done over the years. I said, the media doesn't pay much attention to him when you got players like LeBron, Kobe, Carter, etc. etc. stealing the show.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:24 am
Hehe, sensationalism > winning these days.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:40 am
I like the dunks, alley-oops and other stuff like that, but at the same time I hate 'em 'cos guys who only knows how to do that (I don't mean Kobe, LeBron, VC, T-Mac, etc.) are more popular than the guys like TD or Shaq, that brings home the Win.
I mean, time ago Dee Brown was more popular than Drazen Petrovic or David Robinson only because he dunked with his eyes covered, but he was absolutely bad playin basketball, he only knew how to dunk.
And Drew Gooden, Carmelo, Yao Ming aren't overrated...
Bogut didn't played for the NBA yet, so there's no way you can rate him.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 11:44 am
1 - Yao Ming - Hes tall thats it
2 - Josh Smith - He can dunk thats about it maybe shotblock.
3 - Cant think of one sorry
4 - Stephon Marbury - Says hes the best PG ever, clearly hasnt shown that hasnt won a ring, and did not help his team.
5 - Paul Pierce - If you watch the Celtics you know he is overrated, maybe not top 5, but hes in the top 10 I just wanted to throw him on. All he does is Isolate, never plays team ball, always goes for the GW shot, and hit it once against Portland the other 10 times he missed and Lebron blocked him once. Shows off too much, not as effective anymore. Not clutch.

Duncan was drafted onto a playoff caliber team. If it wasn't for David Robinson getting hurt, they wouldn't have gotten the #1 pick. He came into a GREAT situation and he hit the ground running.
It's not like he came in and changed the whole franchise, he was one of the pieces.
Duncan is a great player, no doubts about that and maybe even the best in the league today but he isn't the best PF of all time (especially considering that I view him as a center and not a PF).
Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:43 pm
current overrated
1a. stephon marbury - i love the kid. but i would be a hypocrite not to put him here until he proves otherwise. beautiful, beautiful numbers: 20 and 8.... can anyone say isiah? but no one cares if you cant even get your team into the playoffs. it doesnt help that every team he leaves happens to enjoy success right after. hell, if i were atlanta, im desperate enough to trade for him just so i can trade him.
1b. carmelo anthony - glenn robinson reincarnated. not bad, not great. needs to understand what he is and live with it. i wonder where the schmucks who were bitching that he was better than lebron are now.
2. elton brand - a 20 and 10 player with a grand total of, drum roll, zero playoff games. nuff said.
3. steve francis - nice numbers, real nice numbers. thats about it. you know you suck when you dont make the playoffs AND average 4 turnovers per games. smart coach would let dimnished hill control the ball more and francis less. thats saying something.
4. richard jefferson - hell put up good numbers if you let him control the ball. then again, so will ricky davis. every year he's made up for his good regular season with a worse playoff showing. lets just call him what he is, an average player that excels when playing with and against other average players, but when put in an arena with good players is damn right mediocore.
5- peja stojakovic - choker.
6. michael redd - one dimensiononal, bad to mediocore defense. spit.
7. chris webber - hard to put him here, cuz everyone knows hes overrated, but even though they know it, he's STILL overrated. can put up nice numbers, thats about it. insignificant impact on interior defense for a man of his size and supposed skill.
8. pau gasol - for godsake bulk up. for a star you sure do have the body of a prep player. actually, no, prep players are huge nowadays, you have the body of an overgrown elementary school figure skater.
9. zach randolph - whenever he jumps for a defensive rebound i half expect his balls to explode from his groin and magically swish through his own basket. his defense is that bad. borderline 20 and 10 and only cuz he scores off his own misses.
two options for 10. this is my 'controversial' pick. i think theyre both great players, but i just wanted to throw an opinion out there.
10a. kevin garnett - great player, then again great players win championships, hell, good players get their teams into the finals. hes actually a favourite player of mine, but consider this: throughout this career he has earned a grand total of 150 million dollars. he's 29. in comparison, tim duncan, 2 time mvp, 3 time champion, 3 time finals mvp has earned.... 70 million. shaqille o'neal, mvp, 3 time champion, 3 time finals mvp, 4 years older..... 190 million. michael jordan, greatest player of all time..... 100 million. it seems the better the player the lower the salary. overpaid and overrated arent the same thing, but this fact made me put him on here. if he wins a championship he proves all wrong. winning is everything. and he missed the playoffs in the prime of his career. unforgivable.
10b. jermaine o'neal - i dont really know if he belongs here, but i didnt want to put kg alone. besides, rule number one: a post player should always be shooting around 50%.
the real number 10: steve nash. see below.
honorable mentions:
arenas - who needs a point guard like that?
all time (i sense a-hate a comin...." :
1. karl malone - stocktons bitch
2. reggie miller - clutch shooter, yeah. zero championships? dont care. if all i need is clutch ill call horry thank you very much.
3. patrick ewing - a small forward in a centres body is not a good thing.
4. chris webber - good numbers, zero impact.
5a. steve nash - i'm canadian, and even i know somethings wrong when somone averages 15 ppg, 11 apg, doesnt win the championship, doesnt even make it to the finals, and wins league mvp. if john stockton didnt get one nash shouldnt either. remember kevin johnson? he averaged 20 and 12!
5b. gary payton - hes never been the best point guard of ANY era hes ever played in. hes a good player, but i wouldnt build around him.
all time underrated:
1. tim duncan - a superstar that can play within a system?!! in this day and age! gasp. shock. theres no one i would rather build a team around then he.
2 scottie pippen - average numbers. game breaker. he guarded the best, and he shut em down, he made the right passes that didnt count as assists but may as wellve. this guy sets the tempo for a team on both ends.
3. dennis rodman - hands down grittiest player ever. he could guard anything with two feet. name one other player that has been specifically asked to guard shaq, jordan, and malone.... and did well.
4. joe dumars - clutch scorer, clutch defender. whatever was needed of him he did.
5. shaqille o'neal - some respect please. a lot of people say the guys got no talent. please. this guys not just big, hes quick. he has dominated the nba for a decade, and he wouldve won a championship with anyone.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:52 pm
Garnett got paid that much because he was all the franchise had and we were too scared to lose him.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:54 pm
Magius: I see Indy, Riot, and Gloveguy fuming in the distance...
While I agree with some points - such as Marbury, Peja, Gasol, Redd, and Francis, I don't agree with your points on putting great players down as overrated because they went by without a ring.
As for Duncan being underrated, I can agree with that, and as for everybody else, they're neither overrated or underrated - is there a word for that?
Tue Aug 23, 2005 12:58 pm
proper-rated

ShAuNCx9 wrote:1 - Yao Ming - Hes tall thats it
He might be overrated, but that's not a valid reason. He's not just tall. He actually knows how to use his height, somewhat. Besides, how many 20/10 centers are there in this league? I'd be hella wrong if I said "Allen Iverson - He's quick that's it."
ShAuNCx9 wrote:2. reggie miller
agreed. Is a great player, but imo isn't HOF material. Making the All-NBA 3rd Team three times isn't so impressive.
ShAuNCx9 wrote:kevin garnett - great player, then again great players win championships, hell, good players get their teams into the finals.
This ones debatable though. I honestly believe that if you give Garnett a great supporting cast like Duncan's, that works well within a system, he'd have at least one ring by now.
Tue Aug 23, 2005 2:20 pm
If Cassell was healthy in the 2004 playoffs KG would have a ring.
