Santa's little helper

What do you think, who will be starting PG for the Cavaliers this season? They lost both, Mcinis and Snow, lost Jasikevicius who already have been seen in Cleveland, they will probably lose Jaric who will resign with the Clippers. What options do they have, if they have any at all?

Damon Jones would be a perfect fit... (Y)

I guess Hughes is a remote chance.

back to LeBron?

C : Ilgauskas
PF: Gooden
SF: Marshall
SG: James
PG: Hughes

or

C : Ilgauskas
PF: Gooden
SF: James
SG: Hughes
PG: Wagner

I wanna see them start Wagner. He was a breakout player when he was a rookie but injuries fucked it up for him.

Wagner has no playmaking skills whatsoever, and he's more of a very, very, very poor man's Iverson who is a lot worse in every single way. But that's an understatement.

He looks more of a broke man's Iverson to me.

perhaps a pass first vet such as Brevin Knight?

No 3pt range, not very durable.

John Gilchrist has been performing decently for them in the summer league; I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a Shav Randolph-like contract. The NBA-ready talent is definitely there, but his attitude was put to question many times over the year and during the draft camps. He could make a valuable backup onto a team in desperate need of a PG.

BTW, Brevin Knight's likely to return to Charlotte.

I think Gilchrist signed a contract with a European team.

They don't need a playmaking PG, as they have LBJ to do that. They don't even need a ballhandling PG, as LBJ and Hughes will share the duty. What they need most is a guard who can shoot and occasionally handle, that's why D-Jones would be perfect.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 4:46 am

They didn't lose Snow (I wish they did though). Hughes could be a good PG since he was "converted" to one back at the Bay Area. Damon Jones is still in the market too, not a bad choice.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 7:23 am

I'd put James as starting PG..he could be penny/magic version of player (with better offense)...but have no idea who to start at SF..maybe they could sign Spree since he probably won't be in Wolves uniform next season?

That would pretty much kill the Cavs' chances of creating a good team with solid locker room chemistry... and the food in Cleveland is reported to be inappropriate for child nutrition...

Thu Aug 11, 2005 7:28 am

You gotta be kididng? Spree has to much pride to be 3rd or 4th player in the team.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:02 am

Yeah, you're probably right..but i don't know who else they could sign..Finley? (can they even afford him? )

Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:31 pm

Damon Jones is still the best option. Cleveland is desperate for a 3 point shooter, it'd be ugly to see LeBron hoisting airballs.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 2:51 pm

I agree with D-Weaver, Damon Jones is the perfect fit for the Cavs, then again Hughes could go back to his rookie position and play PG

He's a hobo's Iverson.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 3:31 pm

Will Derek Anderson sign for the Cavs?
He can be a pg for the cavs.
But dont think he's a pass first pg.

Thu Aug 11, 2005 4:20 pm

Where did Eric Snow go?
And i think its out of Damon Jones, Hughes or LeBron

Thu Aug 11, 2005 5:23 pm

If you want a first pass PG, then you have to sign Damon Jones but if he refuse to then start Snow instead. I would not start Hughes as a PG because he is not a play maker but rather shoot the ball more so he have to start at SG. James, he is better to play at SF unless the coach wants a lineup that includes both Gooden and Marshall. So James, Hughes, Marshall, Gooden and Z.

Damon Jones is a 'pass first' PG? I presume you hadn't watched a lot of Miami games last year.

Damon would spread the floor... If they don't find a three point shooting guard to fill the role, they could possibly start and spread the duties to James and Hughes... Lineup of James, Hughes, Marshall, Gooden and Ilgauskas would certainly make for a decent defensive lineup for some zone defense...

Hughes should not be put in charge of the ball... He tried to be the point for Golden State but fell flat on his ass. I don't think he would be too comfortable with the role in Cleveland either.

They have Marshall to take over the power forward slot... I wouldn't be surprised to see Gooden moved for a good three point shooter to man the "point guard" slot. James is main man on offense and he has the ball, so the point guard is just a formality on the team anyway.
