Bucks lose Pachulia
Zaza Pachulia is now an Atlanta Hawk.
Pachulia, who played power forward and center for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, joined the Hawks Monday after the Bucks declined to match the Hawks' four-year, $16 million offer sheet.
"We've exercised our option not to match the offer,'' Bucks general manager Larry Harris told me after a press conference at the Cousins Center in St. Francis when the Bucks introduced free-agent signee Bobby Simmons to the media. "Zaza's going to Atlanta.
"I had an opportunity to talk to Zaza five days ago and he said he wanted to play more and get more minutes. I couldn't promise him we could do that for him.
"You have to make tough decisions in this business, and this was one of them.''
Pachulia, 20, showed nice promise in his second pro season. After playing in 59 games and averaging 3.3 points and 2.9 rebounds as a rookie for Orlando, Pachulia played in 74 games for the Bucks last season, averaging 6.2 points and 5.1 rebounds.
With the addition of Simmons, who was the NBA's Most Improved Player last season with the Los Angeles Clippers, and top draft choice Andrew Bogut, Pachulia's playing time wouldn't have increased significantly, if at all.
The Bucks' decision to let Pachulia walk will likely save the Bucks several million dollars over the next two years. If the Bucks had retained Pachulia, they would have had to pay a "luxury'' tax of around $3 million to the league this season. But since they will now be under the luxury tax threshold, the Bucks, under the league's revenue-sharing plan, are expected to receive several million dollars back from the league over the next two years.

4 million a year is alot for Zaza. But he'll probably earn his way into the starting centre some how.

Zaza is a sleeper in this league. When he was with the Bucks, when he come off the bench, he can give you double double, if not at least 8pts and 7rbs. He is a great player but he just cannot be consistent all the time. Hawks needs big man and he is a good addition to the Hawks. Though, it is very expensive only for a year.

Looser player deserves a looser team.Looser and looser connections.

Good to see Atlanta's millions go to good use.
In all fairness, those are nice numbers for someone playing less than 20 minutes per game. Atlanta could use more big men, he should get minutes immediately.

I wish the Bucks kept him! I think Zaza will turn out to be a good player. Hawks have made a good move, while it may be a little expensive they fill the centre void with a guy that has shown good promise and is wanting more minutes to compete. I thought Zaza and Bogut would team up to be the future front court for the bucks, but oh well...

How on earth is Zaza a loser? (Or as you put it "looser") I remember Zaza putting up some good numbers earlier on last season, but I guess his minutes diminished. He'll be able to grow a lot quicker with the playing time he'll get from Atlanta.

I never heard of the guy. Maybe it was because Milwaukee and Atlanta were probably the most ignored teams of last year, imo.

looks like he can be decent for atlanta who doesn't have a low post presence but if they can somehow get curry that would be a pretty imposing front line add johnson to the mix and they got a pretty potent lineup right there
1: joe johnson
2: josh childress
3: al harrington
4: zaza pachulia
5: eddy curry
bench: josh smith, salim stoudamire
looks like a decent team

I would not put Harrington as a SF because he is not that quick and he will have trouble chasing other team fast SF players. He should start PF instead.
