Video Cards

Postby Username123 on Sat Aug 06, 2005 12:49 am

I am planning to buy a good video card but i dont have enough money to buy a X700pro or somethin. Tell me a good video card under 200$ (cdn) I was thinking of buying a 9800SE but i read reviews that ATI never made that card and stuff. So can anyone tell me a good card that will run all the games like Doom 3, Battlefield 2 and stuff. I am not a serious gamer, i am but my price range is not. Please me help some

I recently got a ATI Radeon 9250 for $130 and it's good enough for almost all games. I can play Live at 1600x1200x32 at all max settings.

I think Live only needs 64mb vid card. And KevC's card is 128mb i presume. So why would it delay? Anyway I think i am gonna buy the 9800SE and overclock it to unlock the 4pipelines so it will run like a 9800 Pro (Y)

My FX5200 still works well (Y) . The ONLY game I could not get to a playable frame rate AT ALL (even with the lowest settings) was F.E.A.R., that's just a crazy ass game, don't get it unless you have a MONSTER video card...

My FX5200 is 256 mb, it plays Live 05 fine at max settings 1280 resolution (my monitor can't take 1600) and it also plays Half Life 2 perfectly at max (I never use anti aliasing though).

I just recently started to overclock it so I could get Far Cry to look better and play smoother, but then my computer started messing up. I thought I screwed up my video card, but my dad switched power supply's and apparently that was the reason... so if you are going to overclock your video card, I guess you have to remember that not only do you have to keep the heat in check, your power supply has to be able to get the extra juice to the video card.

Darn! The video card is sold out now! (9800SE) It was only 150$ CDN. Guess i have to wait for a good card now. As for the fx2500, lot of games dont support it. Like Battlefield 2, the lowest Nvidia card that is supported is 5900. Rite now i have a 7500 64mb. I can run Nba live at max but cant turn on the lightning thingy.

Wat do u mean by almost no delay? I play with my 7500 with out any lag or glitches. So ur 9200 should run really smooth. Anyway i just increased my price range to 300$ and the best card i can get in that is x700 Pro 256mb AGP. For some reason i never liked Nvidia so i wont buy any Nividia card.

One more thing... Is there any harm to my computer if i leave the cover open?? Cause i got a SSF and the agp card is big.

well I have a PCI card so I have to share my memory from my RAM so if I have a lot of programs running it slows the game down. But if I close everything it couldn't be smoother.

I don't even know what kind of video card I have but when I put Live on all max settings it delays terribly so I gaurentee it's not a good video card.

Also, I been burning a lot of DVD's and capturing video from my digital camera and my camera is great but it doesnt look as good when I put it on my computer. Does that have anything to do with a video card because I have the capturing settings to capture the video at best quality and more space?

I'm not sure about the video card affecting playback but generally if you play your recorded stuff on a TV it will look better as opposed to a Computer Monitor...

ike Battlefield 2, the lowest Nvidia card that is supported is 5900

Are you sure about that? I played the demo of BF2, it worked perfectly. And I mean perfect, no crashes, display errors/glitches whatsoever.

One more thing... Is there any harm to my computer if i leave the cover open??

It depends where you have it. When my dad is fixing up a computer, he usually leaves the cover open, and it's downstairs on a table, so he can mess with it, shut it off, take stuff out, blah blah blah. If you have it say, upstairs under a computer desk, it might get a lot more dust. If it's in a computer desk that has a small closing door to hide the tower, then I don't think it will matter (because my dad opened the computer that was inside a door on a computer desk and there was hardly any dust in it at all).

9800se is a shithouse care, the se models are the stripped down cards.

9250 won't last you long. You should look into Direct X 9 cards. 9600 + for ati. 9800 pro would be my recommendation since u can soft modify it to a 9800 xt. = saving money.

I have the 9800 Pro, and it's great, but I don't think they make them anymore here in Canada now that the X-whatever models are replacing it.

Luckily i wont have to worry about the price. I am gonna work for my Uncle for a week and he said he will buy me any video card i want. So i am gonna buy a x700 not x800 cause i dont wanna make him waste too much of his money.
