Luxury-tax proviso could land a Blazer

By Ross Siler, Staff Writer

Portland Trail Blazers guard Derek Anderson, a likely casualty of the NBA's luxury-tax amnesty provision, has emerged as a leading free-agent candidate to sign with the Lakers, sources said Tuesday.

He can be a great addition to this team. ;) I think so.

Should be a good signing, think he can run the point ?

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:00 am

he would have no choice than to play the point unless he wants 5minutes a game behind kobe.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:13 am

I don't think Derek can play the point because he being playing SG/SF throughout his career. Probably he can come off the bench to backup up Kobe and Odom. Around 10-15 mins a game.

I think he could play the point, he's got the handles. Besides, bringing up the ball shouldn't be that much of a problem for either Bryant or Odom.

It would make sense to sign him and let him play the PG in Phil's triangle, he'd be big & can shoot. Pretty much what Phil requires.

Another issue could be his endurance though. Well, as long as they don't sign him for a gazillion bucks, I wouldn't mind having Anderson on the team.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:24 am

I don't know much about him, but theres still Sasha Vujajic! He's a tall PG that can shoot 3's.. I don't know about shots any closer to the rim..

Thu Aug 04, 2005 10:29 am

Anderson has the seniority over Sasha though. He's a veteran, I'm quite positive a coach would rather play a vet than a newcomer.

Yes he can. That's his second position. Sasha still needs to develop alot. I watched a couple games and not impresive. Still needs work and he has talent. Maybe they can resign Van Exel, rather than Anderson. Maybe for a 1 year deal.

DA would end up as a rocket.

.......

Thu Aug 04, 2005 4:36 pm

I will laugh if Kupcake lets this one slip threw!

Thu Aug 04, 2005 5:11 pm

The Rockets are supposedly in talks with Van Exel...which is good

Thu Aug 04, 2005 5:25 pm

damn the lakers are goin to be a power house overnight.

if the DA's office is landing in houston.........then i have no prob with that 8-)

Thu Aug 04, 2005 6:43 pm

This is good news, but I'm interested in seeing who else might be talking to LA... although there might not be too many.

Sasha should learn from a veteran presence so this will be good on both playing and future levels of basketball...

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:33 pm

He's spent time at point guard before, I assume he'd be playing alongside Kobe in the backcourt as well as giving him a few minutes rest should he join the Lakers. Mind you, I don't think he'll ever be mistaken as being one of the best at point guard, starting or coming off the bench.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:39 pm

I would rather see Derek playing at SF and let Sasha start at PG. This means that Kwame will be at C and Odom at PF. This way, they can get score alot of quick points just like the speedy Suns.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:43 pm

Could he could be Ron Harper clone? Just daydreamin' :)... BTW, I'm from Slovenia and I would still rather see Sasha burried on the bench. That says a lot.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:44 pm

That's absurd. I really wouldn't start Sasha, as good as he may be, I won't start him just yet.

Odom gets abused at the PF spot & he seems to become almost ineffective.

The best lineup would still be Mihm at C, this guy seemed to just wake up last season, Brown at PF, let Odom play his natural position at SF, Bryant at SG & if they can sign Anderson, play him at PG.

Thu Aug 04, 2005 9:49 pm

Start Sasha? Smush Parker and Von Wafer are better options than Sasha Vujacic. The guy deserves to be in the nbdl.

DA at sf? You do know that he is 6'5" right?

gotta wonder, how does adding a underacheiving forward and a oft injured combo guard make the lakers a overnight powerhouse... kwame still has to prove to be at least a solid 15pt/8rb/3ast/2bl night in and out for the lakers to even have a chance to compete for a playoff spot, also not to mention lamar odom... this guy is the key to whether they advance further in the playoffs... that's a lot of big ifs for a supposed powerhouse

Hey Marion is only 6'7" and he played PF last season. Also Antonio Daniels is only 6'4" and he started at SF when Lewis was injured. So why can't Derek start at SF?

Fri Aug 05, 2005 8:42 pm

Because he isn't an SF?

Fri Aug 05, 2005 9:06 pm

6'5'' jumpshooters with bad backs don't do well at the SF. It would be more logical that Kobe switches to SF. The reports are saying that he once again bulked up to 230 pounds.

Fri Aug 05, 2005 9:40 pm

i thought Odom will play SF and Brown will play the PF ... so anderson is left with the guard ...

Fri Aug 05, 2005 10:04 pm

Yea, he'll start over Kobe  .
