Eddie Jones Done In Miami?

Postby RxC6 on Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:26 pm

Not satisfied with the makeup of a team that was one game from the NBA Finals, Heat president Pat Riley is considering making significant moves that could include trading swingman Eddie Jones and acquiring Memphis point guard Jason Williams, according to several NBA sources.

Among the moves being considered is a trade that would send Jones to Memphis and bring Williams and small forward James Posey to Miami.

Not a bad idea, but why Jones would want to leave. If Wade did not get injured in Game 6, Heat probably advance to the Finals. Jones should stay. As for Williams, he can start with Wade. For Posey, Jones is a better defender than him so Posey have to work harder on the defensive end. Overall, I like this trade.

Memphis would be stupid to include Posey in that deal.

Damon is not a Heat anymore, he is a free agent.

I don't think it's about what EJ wants, if you read carefully (?) you can see that Riley wasn't content with how the roster looked. If the trade does fall through, the chances of Miami getting to the finals just got a lot better. They would be upgrading from Damon Jones to Jason Williams.

C - Shaq
F - Haslem
F - Posey
G - Wade
G - Williams

That's a strong team. On paper at least, because of the Lakers fiasco we all know teams that look amazing on paper doesn't mean they will win it all. It's been proven that it's more about team work (Spurs, Pistons) opposed to massive star power. (LA, Dallas.)

I would not want to give away Posey. I think Posey is just as good as a defender as Eddie Jones is, plus he's bigger and his three point shooting is just slightly worse. Eddie has the edge on offence, but I think he's losing it from old age.

This is obviously a great trade for Miami, but my question is why in the world would Jerry West agree to such a completely lop-sided deal? Especially considering that Memphis is going into rebuilding mode, which EJones will not help with his age or massive salary.

I know 2 draft picks are involved, but i can't see Miami's draft picks ever being lottery while Shaq is in town.

Maybe Memphis isn't planning on keeping Eddie Jones?

Obviously they are rebuilding the team with lots of young players, they might make the trade and release Eddie Jones or trade him again for more young players.

This is a very good deal for Miami, Jason Williams is definitley an upgrade over Damon Jones and James Posey is only slightly worse than Eddie Jones on the offensive end.

I know on paper this move looks good for the Heat but I don't know...

I think Jason Williams doesn't really fit in to what they are trying to do...

Good trade for the Heats. That means Wade would have to play the 3. Didn't he play the 2 last season? in the postseason he was the guy bringing the ball down all the time. Damn Im only seeing bigger and better things for Wade next season, the man is incredible.

There is no way Memphis will do that deal and not get what they really need in the deal and that's a true center. Unless New Orleans is included in the deal and the Grizzlies get Jones and Magloire, it would make more sense, but if its 2 for 1 like they are saying, I wouldn't think West would be that dumb especially since he is trying to save money.

Finally mr. Eddie Jones "I miss 2 free throw shots when the game was on the line" is gone. Well I hope this deal works out. We get much better players in return!
Bored.

I hope the trade goes through, J-Will would be a nice boost for the team, plus a more-than-decent SF will arrive.

Rasual or Shandon or even Steve Smith would play behind Posey. :?

If I recall correctly Wells is a SF ,which would allow Wade to stay at the 2.

How about the Heat add Zhi zhi or Doleac to the deal (even both for the heck of it!) to fill the Grizzlies' need of a true center?!

Okay all joking aside,at first I didn't quite like that trade since EJ is cool and all,but Wells + J-Will is a hell of a combo, excitement guaranteed! Imagine if this trade goes through and Walker is signed for the MLE ... DAMN!

Stay focussed, it's Posey, not Wells!

The trade is good for the Heat and only the Heat. Memphis would get the short end of the stick with Eddie Jones. But it would not improve Miami's PF woes that had last year. Udonis is a good player, granted, but he not tough enough to start along Shaq. I would like, not love, to see Antoine Walker in red and black but after seeing him in Dallas just jack up brick after brick I'll pass. Heat should go after Curry.
