Chad Ford To Leave ESPN

26th July, 2005 - 5:25 pm

Christopher Reina/RealGM - Multiple sources have confirmed that Chad Ford, NBA Insider for ESPN.com will be leaving his post in the coming weeks.

He will become a professor of international conflict
resolution at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.

Representatives from ESPN could not be reached for comment on Tuesday evening.

Ford joined ESPN in 2001 when sportsTALK.com became ESPN Insider, a subscription based service on the site.

Ford previously was the executive editor of sportsTALK.com, an internet sports site he co-founded with Jason Peery.

Prior to his role with sportsTALK, Ford graduated from Georgetown Law School, after earning a degree in history from Brigham Young University-Hawaii in 1995.

His NBA coverage has taken him all over the world scouting international talent and he has routinely broken important free agent signings and trades.

Though sometimes disputed, Ford’s impact and influence on NBA news has become unquestionable. He has always delivered valuable information to his audience.

No word yet on who ESPN will tap to replace him.

i didn't mind chad ford so much as others. his articles leading up to the draft and the ones during the playoffs were pretty good.

he's been off on a lot of trades/signings but so have a lot of other reporters/websites with good reps

knock him all you want, but he's actually there watching prospects workout, has connections within the nba & media, etc.... while we just sit here and wait for the info to triculate to us.. accurate or not

i agree with AIR GORDON. Another thing i don't like about him is the "INSIDER" stuff. Like we gotta pay cash to read some insiders. Gets me pissed off :P

i haven't read a lot of things by him, but i did read his comments on Raptors draft and i think he gave the raptors a C- or something, which is the only thing that pisses me off about him.

Villanueva at #7. C- is too high. Doesn't matter that they did great with Roko and Graham. Villanueva at #7 ruins it.

You don't want the Raptor's fans to invade us from their secret Raptor's forum or wherever they go and start making 1000 word essays about how Villanueva was a fantastic pick. :shhh:

Ruins what? It's not really about Villanueva at #7, it's that Raptors got Villanueva, Ukic, and Graham that's really what matters. Even if the Raptors drafted, say, Granger at 7th, who would they draft at 16th? They would not have had the chance to draft a big men at 16th. So drafting a big men at #7th and a SG/SF at 16th makes more since. And Villanueva is the most athletic person at that position, at 7th. Besides, have you seen Villanueva's performace at the summer league?

This maybe a dawn of a new era for ESPN....now only if Stephen A. Smith would "disappear".

I don't know...his presence does give me a basketball analyst to "hate".

I remember when sportsTALK/NBATALK became part of ESPN and started charging money. Another step towards the inevitable, something else on the web that isn't free.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed Stephen A. Smith's "hazing" of the team's draft picks at this year's drafts....the look on some of the draftee's face (Villanueva included) was priceless....shame he didn't do more....would have prefer to see the Chuckster "hazing" the teams and players though
