Wells traded to Sac-Town/3-Team-Trade

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:30 am

Got it from the realgm-Board

From Memphis newspaper

Bonzi Wells is a Sacramento King.

The Grizzlies exercised an $8 million team option Friday and agreed to trade Wells to Sacramento in a three-team deal involving the Utah Jazz, NBA sources confirmed.

The deal won’t be announced until the NBA’s moratorium is lifted because of a delay in finalizing the collective bargaining agreement.

Wells, though, will go to Sacramento for guard Bobby Jackson while the Kings will send Greg Ostertag to Utah.
The Jazz also will send forward Curtis Borchardt, and guards Raul Lopez and Kirk Snyder to Memphis.

The 29-year-old Wells was considered the best guard available now that Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Bobby Simmons, Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley have agreed in principle to sign new deals.

The Grizzles also had more than cursory conversations with Boston, Dallas, Washington, Detroit and Utah.

Griz president Jerry West has shopped for deals since Wells was unceremoniously and inexplicably removed from the team during the playoffs. The team also is seeking to move guard Jason Williams and would like to consummate a sign-and-trade deal with free agent guard Earl Watson.

I know my favourite team had to make a trade, but are you sure that thats a good trade for the kings?

BTW Tag back in Utah

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:38 am

I'm so confused.... where's bobby jackson going? Is Memphis getting Jackson?

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:42 am

Thanks for the news. I'm shocked. I say it's a good trade for the Kings. (Y)

[L3], B-Jax: Memphis, Wells: Sac-Town, Ostertag: Jazz.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:44 am

so memphis is getting Jackson, Curtis Borchardt, and guards Raul Lopez and Kirk Snyder to Memphis???? that's a lot of players....

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:51 am

No...i'll miss Jackson

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:51 am

I know, and Utah gets only Ostertag??? Add that to the already spectacular team that you have.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:55 am

I think this trade worked out great for the Kings.. you get a great defensive player and pretty good offensive player outta Bonzi. He fits in nicely where Christie used to be. (Y)

Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:08 am

Hmmm.

So from last year the Kings lose Mobley and Jackson, and but gained Wells and Tag.

Sounds about even.

No they lost Tag as well. So for the kings this trade was Wells for Tag.

I guess Jason Williams is gone for sure now that Memphis got 3 guards from this trade.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:22 am

So Sac starting 5 would be

C: Brad
PF: Kenny Thomas
SF: Peja
SG: Wells
PG: Bibby

nice starting 5

Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:33 am

I hate Kenny Thomas and Brian Skinner. I hope the Kings shop and get rid of them.

They did horrible in that Sonics series and were pretty useless.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:34 am

wow, memphis is getting 1 for 4 trade.
man...
hey, thanks for the news.

Memphis gets Bobby Jackson, Kirk Snyder, Curtis Borchard and Raul Lopez

Bobby Jackson is an excellent addition, provided he can stay healthy for at least 60 games during th eregular season. Also thi smeans that one of J-Will or Watson will leave. Maybe both. Snyder has been a disappointment so far, but th epotential is still there. Of course, there are still Battier, Miller, Posey and Jones in Memphis who can play the same position. Borchard and Lopez wil most like ly be cut and were used a ssalary fillers.

Sacramento gets Bonzi Wells. A good addition, especially after Mobley bolting. Kevin Martina nd Franio Garcia were too much of a gamble for the starting SG role. B-Jax was afan favorite, but his injuries did not let him contribute much the last two or three years.

Utah gets Greg Ostertag . Thsi does not make sense. Did they get him back for sentimental reasons? Maybe Sloan can still find a use for him, although I would not give away Snyder to get Tag. Especially with Raja Bell gone and th eonly decent SG left being Gordan Giricek. :?

Bobby Jackson, Kirk Snyder, Curtis Borchard and Raul Lopez

Wow Memphis got a real good deal now they can shop Jay-Will and the have a solid but injured a lot PG to replace him.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 8:41 am

Sacramento got the best out of the deal, but Memphis also got a good bundle of players.
Can't get why did Utah agree on this. :?

Sat Jul 23, 2005 8:48 am

Seems like a set-up deal for Memphis.

They might have that 3-for-1 trade West is always talking about, where they finally acquire a superstar.

Paul Pierce? Iverson? Marbury?

Sat Jul 23, 2005 9:22 am

Does anyone have a reasonable explanation for why Utah would EVER do that? I would somewhat understand if Ostertag was a huge expiring but he's merely a $4.4 million expiring.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 10:18 am

Agreed, it hardly makes any sense, they give up so much just to get Ostertag? Seems a bit strange to me. :?

Sat Jul 23, 2005 10:23 am

Well, I'll try to defend Utah.

They don't need Raul Lopez. Him and Sloan aren't really on great terms and I heard they want to get Sauras (spell?) and they already have Deron Williams. So Lopez really has no value for him. Borchardt is a bust and Ostertag is better than him so that's not a problem. Ostertag and Sloan are pretty good friends and they work well together. And Kirk Snyder kind of pissed Sloan off after taunting after making a three. Not only that, but Synder was out played by rookie CJ Miles and I heard they really like him and Giricek to be their 2-guards.

Talent wise it might not sound too good but considering their circumstances I don't think it was that horrible. They still have a lot of talent, if they sign sauras (spell?)

PG-Williams or Sauras/Williams or Sauras
SG-Giricek/Miles
SF-Kirilenko/Harpring
PF-Boozer/Humphries
C-Ostertag/

Sat Jul 23, 2005 11:18 am

The Jazz got ripped off. Ostratag for 3 young stars, unbelivelable.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 11:35 am

Riot, the spelling is Sarunas, it is his name.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 12:03 pm

Memphis got a nice bundle in return, and Sacramento made all the right moves. Utah is questionable, but they might not be giving up much after the smoke clears. I like Sacramento's team, even though they lost a lot of talent; but if they can play as a team, they should be pretty good. Once again, West does a nice job of recruiting talent.

Sat Jul 23, 2005 12:59 pm

I really like this deal, Bobby Jackson lit us up everytime we played the Kings and I always thought of him as one of the best backup PG's, I just hope he can stay healthy. We got a young Kirk Snyder as well, I guess this means that Jwill is bound to be traded and I hope Bobby Jackson can start because when he gets hot, he is hard to stop. But now there are too many players on the roster so there are bound to be more deals coming soon.

Seems like a set-up deal for Memphis.

They might have that 3-for-1 trade West is always talking about, where they finally acquire a superstar.

Paul Pierce? Iverson? Marbury?

I have to agree with you on that because I know Jwill is on his way out and I'm hoping Memphis can snatch up a star player in the next few weeks.
