Updated Pacers offseason plan

Postby Indy on Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:15 am

Tell me what you guys think

As the roster stands right now (players that are already under contract)

C- Jeff Foster/David Harrison/Scot Pollard
PF- Jermaine O'Neal/Austin Croshere/Jonathon Bender
SF- Ron Artest/Danny Granger
SG- Stephen Jackson/Fred Jones
PG- Jamaal Tinsley/Anthony Johnson/Eddie Gill

Free Agents- James Jones, Dale Davis, John Edwards

Possible Signings, Sarunas J., Damon Stoudamire, Ronald Murray, Luis Scola, Brian Grant, Bonzi Wells, Jalen Rose, Michael Finley, Allan Houston.

Heres my plan.

Release Austin Croshere under the new CBA

Release Eddie Gill

Re-sign James Jones and Dale Davis, let John Edwards go.

Top priority: Sign Sarunas J. Leaving the roster:

C- Dale Davis/Jeff Foster/David Harrison/Scot Pollard
PF- Jermaine O'Neal
SF- Ron Artest/James Jones/Danny Granger
SG- Jackson/F. Jones
PG- Tinsley/Sarunas/Johnson

Next, trade Scot Pollard for Clifford Robinson

C- Davis/Foster/Harrison
PF- JO/Cliff/Bender
SF- Artest/J. Jones/Granger
SG- Jax/F. Jones
PG- Tins/Saras/Johnson

Under the new agreement I believe you are allowed to have 15 players, with 14 playing and 1 inactive.

I love that roster, however, it is more likely that Saras is out of our reach, and that he is signing with Cleveland. In that case, replace his name with Damon Stoudamire, and there you have it.

1,000,000 championships in a row would be my guess, what about you guys?

Good idea. Probably will happen, as he brings next to nothing on the table.

Re-sign James Jones and Dale Davis, let John Edwards go.

James Jones is rumored to be leaving. Financial reasons alone.

Next, trade Scot Pollard for Clifford Robinson

I think Cliffy is a FA after the Nets did not pick up his option. What is Indiana's cap state? Is their MLE available?

Top priority: Sign Sarunas J.

Right now, there's about 80% chance he'll end up in Ohio. He'll fit better in there, anyway, both mentally and basketball-wise.

In that case, replace his name with Damon Stoudamire, and there you have it.

A good idea, but again, what is Indy's cap status? Can Mighty Mouse sign for teh MLE for you guys?

1,000,000 championships in a row would be my guess, what about you guys?

With a secret longevity potion, there is a slim chance of that happening.

I think the Pacers should keep their core intact and try to keep Artest on a short leash. If they do tha, they have a good chance on giving up a good 6 game fight before bowing to San Antonio in the Finals.

is rose a FA? did toronto use their one time dump exception already?

resign james jones if possible. dweaver- who is reporting that james will leave?

i dont know dale davis salary situation, it's not listed on hoops hype. pollard for cliffy sounds nice but pollards salary is pretty high and cliffy will probably get the veteran's exception (my guess)

I'm not sure, but it was either RealGm or Yahoo Sports... nothing official from Pacers or agents' lips yet. More rumors than anything.

who did the raptors dump? but rose isn't a FA. I think he meant that raptors will dump Rose, so he'll be a FA. But i don't think that's gonna happen since raptors have a hard time attracting players and they need some help in the PG and SG position. Anyways going back to the pacers, i heard rumors of artest getting traded just because he's hard to keep under control. If Granger is as good as people say, and pacers re-sign jones, they might not need artest. That's if they get some decent players out of the trade.

Why is Granger so low on your depth chart?

Sarunas wanted a starting position in the NBA.
It's 99% more probable he'll get that from CLE than IND.

I think you should stop making plans, it'll only lead to further disappointment. Unless you're just doing it for fun, in which case, by all means. It's fun reading.

Pacers should be on the same level as the Pistons and Heat. Either of these 3 teams should advance to the Finals.

Drex is right, the Pacers are my life.

Jackal, you could not begin to know what it feels like, but the ups are better then the downs, and when we finally do win a championship (whether its this year or not) it will be the happiest day of my life, and it will make it all worth it.

(Dont tell my girlfriend that)

"You" won't get Luis Scola. His buyout clause is about 14 million dollars. Plus "you" would have to get his rights from the Spurs.

Don't you get it? The Spurs are shopping Scola all over the league, that's why they signed Oberta.

It wouldn't take anything even remotely close to that.

Actually, I'd start jasikevicius over Tinsley to begin with... and then take it from there...

Hell no. Tinsley is a proven pro, Saras hasn't played a game in the league yet. I would put him ahead of Johnson, but tweaking with the starting lineup for a guy who has never played in the league???

You're NUTS!!

He's proved he can play under bigger circumstances than Tinsley, and that he can win. So yeah, I'd give him the nod over Tinsley at opening night and then tweak the rotation accordingly.

Maybe, maybe both of Damon S. and Saras is out of the question for the Pacers. Damon is probably going to the cavs if Saras turns them down, and if Saras do turn the Cavs down ìt aint sure that Pacers are his destination.

All in all, please let the Celtics win over the Pacers come next playoffs. Just for the fun of it.

So if you had drafted Chris Paul thsi year, would you still aim to start Jamaal?

Because Jasikevicius is a better player than Paul right now...
