What do you think of him?
He's been running th eleague so long... has he done a good job or not?
My take is that he's worked hard for the league, albeit being somewhat of an attention seeker at times. But the rise in marketability of the league, I have to credit him for it...
What do you people think of him, as a professional and as a person?
Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:00 am
My opinion?
Fat bastard,but he got game.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:02 am
done a pretty good job especially if you compare the NBA with the NHL. and yes he has spread the market. but he'll still be hated by many people
Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:06 am
Done great, maybe except that Artest thing, but that's past...

David Stern is the best commissioner in all of sports.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:56 am
Yea, I like him.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:08 am
Yup, just like Matthew said. He's hands down the best commisioner in sports. Now that doesn't mean that he haven't screwed up on a few things, but still a good job.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:42 am
Hes the best commisoner ive ever seen in sports but im 15 so there are only 4-5 different commisoners total i've seen. Lets just be glad we have David Stern instead of Gary Bettman or Bud Selig. all-star game a tie what the fuck?
Mon Jul 18, 2005 12:45 pm
Fat bastard,but he got game.
"he got game"? What the hell? Since when did David Stern ever play basketball?
He is a pretty good commisioner in my eyes, everyone already said what I had to say.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 1:58 pm
As a professional I think he has done a great job with the L, it could be MUCH worse than it is now.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 2:18 pm
he is mean to my homeboy artest
Mon Jul 18, 2005 6:46 pm
hasn't really done anything to tick me off...so he's still ok in my book
Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:01 pm
He is doing a good job not like those NHL Commisioners.
Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:01 pm
While I haven't agreed with every decision he's made (or accepts the most responsibility for), he's done a great job. He's not afraid to take a hard stance against his athletes, too hard in some cases but it's usually for the best. The success of the NBA during his tenure as commish speaks for itself. Sure, he had the three-headed marketing monster of Michael/Magic/Larry upon taking the position but let's give credit where credit is due. The NBA has thrived under his watch.

But he ruins it with his bonehead moves. Taking the playoff games off network was plain stupid. And the starting times are ridiculous. Nice way to bring back the casual fans. NASCAR gets higher ratings than the NBA(but according to Stern, everything's OK). Fans always complain about greedy players, how about greedy commissioners?
Stern's done some good, but let's face it, he was fortunate to be commissioner during the league's glory years. I think he's too stubborn and too much of a spin doctor.

I think he was being metaphorical.
Stern has done a great job with the NBA. I would say he is a little too strict or harsh with the rules, but it does set an example.

David stern is stern...pun intended. I dont like his decisions sometimes...but he's helped the nba out of the backyard...so to speak..to probably making basketball the third most popular global sport.

After soccer and ...?
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:53 am
NASCAR racing? If I get it right, do I get a cookie?
Tue Jul 19, 2005 4:59 am
If I get it right, do I get a cookie?
You already have a bad hairdo and Marc Blount... Don't go greedy on me. Maybe some mushroom soup...
Tue Jul 19, 2005 5:04 am
No, that's a small kitten and Mark Blount. I wanted the bad hairdo, though
I'll have a cookie if I get it right, and if I get it wrong, I'll take the mushroom soup. Deal?

Here are some numbers from 2002...

Nope. It's mushroum soup or a trip to the zoo. Cage-less zoo. Your pick.
Tue Jul 19, 2005 5:12 am
Assuming it's like Noah's Ark, I'll take the cageless zoo
But anyways, I think we're waaaay off topic
Jae wrote:According to them it's volleyball, basketball, table tennis
I can understand volleyball and basketball, but table tennis?! Damn!
