Jaric to Minnesota?

Wolves After Marko Jaric

18th July, 2005 - 4:24 am
Star-Tribune - Marko Jaric, a restricted free agent from the Los Angeles Clippers , might be one of the Wolves' primary targets this offseason. Jaric, a 6-7 guard capable of playing both backcourt spots, is represented by agent Bill Duffy, who confirmed Minnesota's interest.

"That would be a great fit," Duffy said. "It's a pretty aggressive market, but we'll try to be creative with every team."

Jaric, 26, averaged 9.9 points, 6.1 assists and 1.68 steals for the Clippers last season, his third in the NBA.

Once the NBA's signing period begins Friday, the Clippers would have seven days to match any offer to Jaric. But a sign-and-trade might satisfy Los Angeles, and the Wolves could enlist a third club to provide a piece, if needed, via a multi-team deal.

But signing Jaric outright would be difficult because most or all of the Wolves' midlevel salary cap exception -- $5 million starting salary -- is believed to be earmarked for forward Eddie Griffin. [READ]

Would he play shooting guard?? Since Sam's got the point and I really don't think he'll leave it.
If I were the Wolves, I would be more worried looking for a center than guards. :?

They don't have the cap space to sign a decent FA center, Unless they work out a trade with Spree, sam, and/or Wally.

they already signed an undrafted rookie C for 2 years. His name escapes me at the moment.

Kandi Man for MIP!!!

Question.

Jaric is the PERFECT fit for Jax' new Lakers at point. Huge guard who can shoot and pass well. Why aren't the Lakers afetr him instead of Antonio Daniels? :?

I think it would be a solid pick-up, especially with Hoiberg most likely out for the season. Eddie Griffin is most likely going to resign but since he is in jail at the moment the Wolves can't really talk contracts with him right now.

I also heard that the Wolves are close to re-signing Mark Madsen. Madsen was at the summer league game talking to McHale and he did an interview saying that he loves it here in Minnesota and wants to stay.

But...onto the topic at hand. I would think a sign-and-trade would be a good idea depending on who is actually traded. I wouldn't want them to deal Wally, Hassell or Olowokandi.

Wolves feel rather confident in their frontcourt. Olowokandi is entering a contract year and he showed some flashes of actually being productive later on in the season. Plus, if we can re-sign Madsen and Griffin to put along side Garnett I think it could be a very good frontline. Griffin and Garnett can work together at the 4 and 5 for periods at a time. And the undrafted rookie Dwyane Jones is pretty solid too.

Lol at least you're not giving player by player analysis of the Wolves frontcourt and making them out to look like all-stars :P

Dwayne Jones plays like Gadzuric. He is all defense, no offense.

That's all you really need from your center these days. Especially when you have Kevin Garnett at PF.

All anyone asks from Olowokandi is to control the paint, block some shots and get some boards. But he tries to score 20 points a game and he ends up having 20 turnovers a game. Sometimes he'll get hot and make 4-5 baskets but he just isn't a skilled player. If he can understand what he is suppose to do then I think he can be a good center.

Let's reserve judgement until he actually gets to play in the league, shall we? maybe he'll get shipped to the NBDL for 'seasoning' first... :|

I've been going to the Timberwolves summer league games. Although it's just summer league you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of player the guy is. I don't expect him to play much or putting up anything more than 3ppg and 3rpg tops but he played great defense against Bogut and other big men like Channing Frye.
