The lakers always want to be conmpeting for the title, they are not happy with just consecutive playoff appearances like washington. This trade actually fit the Lakers' profile of'gambling for dominance'. :!:

It's worth mentioning that incident occurred after Kwame was complaining throughout a scrimmage about not getting calls on what we (supposedly) soft fouls.

A lot of people like to criticise Michael Jordan about what happened with Kwame, and they might have a point, but it is the way things were done back in the day. Jordan himself was made to carry bags and equipment as a freshman in college and light hazing of rookies is neither new or behaviour associated only with Jordan, nor is criticising and pushing teammates to strive to be better.

Unfortunately it seems a lot of young players these days expect to be pampered, so they don't respond well to such methods of motivation. Most players of yesteryear would have gotten angry and determined, Kwame crawled into a ball and whimpered. Now, that's not to say it was the right thing to do given it's become an outdated method of motivation but it's often portrayed as being sinister.

Hey Andrew... during MJ's Bulls years, did anyone complain about their treatment by MJ? (Obviously talking about his teammates.) Anyone find him harsh or is Kwame the first to cry about it?

Do you have this listed on your bedroom wall? You always seem to bring this up like its a significant event.

Most NBA greats chewed up and spat out their teamates regularly. Magic, Larry, Shaq did it to Kobe and Kobe gave it back to him. Isiah did it also. Just becuase MJ did it to a rookie and he cried people will never forget it.

It's not that big of a deal.

Well, some people are built so as to be motivated by negative comments. Kwame does not appear to be one of those... Fair enough, I s'pose...

That's true, but some can be more effective than others. For example,

"Kwame, what's the matter with you?! You should've been grabbing those balls instead of playing with yours!"

and

"Kwame, you're a flaming faggot! You hear me?! A flaming faggot! F-A-G-G-O-T. What does that spell, Kwame? What does that spell?!"

Now, I'm not saying Jordan took the latter approach, but whatever negativity he instilled in Kwame didn't work. Magic could've done the same thing with Vlade, but maybe he would've added some humor or a smile. Who knows?

maybe Kwame is not good in motivating himself anyway, so nothing MJ would say could make any difference, If Jordan did indeed say that phrase, I'm sure he had to be frustrated by Brown's lack of work ethic first... :wink:

kwame has about 2 more seasons to really get his career on track. if he dont turn into the big stud people thought he would be its not a completly bad thing. i mean just cause a player does not reach thier potential does not mean they cant be a good productive player.

He was hard on some of his teammates in his first run with the Bulls, especially guys like Stacey King. But they responded much differently than Kwame, as back then that motivation technique was much more effective.
