CLEVELAND (Ticker) - Days after the Cleveland Cavaliers made waves with a marquee free agent signing, Zydrunas Ilgauskas reportedly has elected to remain with the club.

According to a report in Monday's Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ilgauskas will sign a five-year deal worth up to $60 million on July 22, the first day free agents can sign according to the NBA's collective bargaining agreement.

The report comes three days after the Cavaliers agreed to terms with guard Larry Hughes, one of the top prizes on the free agent market after a stellar season with the Washington Wizards.

Full Story

Great news for Cavs... imagine the lineup: Ilgauskas, Gooden, James, Hughes, McInnis!

i don't like McInnis, and i think the Cavaliers are over paying Z....
still a solid line up nonetheless

I knew Z will stay in Cleveland. Cavs surely have improved their defence with the addition of Hughes. Lets see if they can make it to the playoffs.

McInnis is a good point guard but he wore out his welcome in Cleveland.

Tue Jul 12, 2005 12:22 pm

They are offering him a lot but it's hard to find good big men these days. If they didn't give him the large contract somebody else would have. I think it's a good move.

And has anyone heard any news on Sarunas Jasikevicius? Is he still planning to go to Cleveland? That would give them outside shooting but I don't know how good of a PG he will be in the NBA.

Yup, I agree.
I would like to see Hughes play the point, and the Cavs should get a nice SG instead.

Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:07 pm

Cavs still need to take care of the fact that they need a shooter. -_-;;

Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:25 pm

::-_-;; jona why do you think another sg? they have lebron don't they? he too can be at point but that's another story

the thing is that one player cannot play three positions at the one time. they need others on the court as well. :P

Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:49 pm

Bron can play 4 positions imo... he'll do good on SF
I hope Sarunas plays PG for them :o screen 3 screen dunk steal dunk block dunk :D

Tue Jul 12, 2005 5:17 pm

i think my owner overpayed for z but true centers don't grow on trees.. look at the money brian cardinal and adonal foyle got last year or even max money for michael redd? it's an inflated market now even for swing men who are a dime-a-dozen so you best believe a big guy is going to get his $$$...

i'm happy w/ the move. :D with z back and hughes in the fold we now have at least a versatile big body in the middle and a first team defender on the wing to take the pressure off bron. not to mention another guy capable of breaking down the defense and finding either big guys or perimeter guys...

i was kind of hoping for the kid delembert (sp?) from philadelphia but i think he was restricted or something. i like the moves we've made so far! :D

err.... YOUR owner??? Watch out for misunderstandings, Lady, or you'll find yourself in COOLMac's novel pretty soon...

Cavs still need a shooter, but with two Lithuanians now on board I believe Sarunas is on his way to Cleveland as well, so that problem seems solved. Even if he can't cut it as a playmaker in th eleague, he'll be invaluable as a spot-up shooter for LBJ's kickouts...

As far as PG is concerned, I've heard the new coach is defensive minded and loves Eric Snow...

Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:16 pm

Even if it's paying too much, it's not overpaying a player in the Adonal Foyle sense and Cleveland lost out on Redd and Allen so they had cap room to burn. It was the right move to make.

Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:19 pm

So, the Cavs just signed two injury prones to big contracts? If Knicks release Houston, Cavs could sign him for 5 years/50million. That would be gangsta (Y).

BTW: why is this guy's nick 'Lady or rage'? Still having problems with sexual identity?

Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:20 pm

Lady of Rage isn't a guy.

Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:23 pm

I don't buy it . Show me a picture with NLSC tatooted over her (his/its) tummy and then we can talk.

Edit: changed could with can :).

For me, McInnis is awesome when I played him in NBA 2003~ Guess what .. this fella actually dishing out 12 assists(with only two turnovers) & score around 19 points per game..
:P :P

Lol...

Zydrunus was way overpaid. I wonder if the cavs couldve gone after curry with that amount of money, 11 million a year. Big Z is still servicable, but he is past his prime, and if Lebron bolts, they will be stuck with him and that contract.

Wed Jul 13, 2005 2:02 am

That's way too much for Z, and 5 years? What will he be doing in the 4th and 5th years? They're signing him till he's 35, I just don't feel a 34 and 35 year old Z is going to do much on the court for you.

Wed Jul 13, 2005 3:11 am

Teams trying to use Hughes as a PG is what contributed to his slow development, it just doesn't seem to be his strong point.

Rumors are they're trying to get Sarunas or Antonio Daniels as PG.

Wed Jul 13, 2005 3:27 am

Oh no, Hughes as a PG like I've already said is terrible for everyone involved...

Wed Jul 13, 2005 7:40 am

yeh 5yrs seems a bit long for someone like Z.

maybe gm ferry didn't want to wait it out to lock up a big man? just like the hughes signing, the number of quality players is lowering and they didn't want to get in a bidding war w/atl who seems like they are offering the max to anyone who's left??

dweaver... i read about that snow thing too. hello zone defense against the cavs

It all depends on whether thay can land Jasikevicius and/or Luke Jackson finally gets a shot to live up to his Top 10 pick status... He's doing fairly well so far in Vegas... (Y)

Friends -

If Z is worth that much, I wonder how much Amare is worth for the Suns and the league?

I'm neutral about this signing.
