Dallas Offered Horry $9 Million Over Three Seasons



Star-Telegram - The Mavs reportedly offered Robert Horry a three-year contract for at least $9 million but Horry decided to return to San Antonio.

"We wanted Rob," Mark Cuban said. "We probably wouldn't have played him much during the season, but we could have used that swagger in the playoffs."

The Heat were also interested in signing the clutch forward.

Not surprising Horry attracted interest from other teams. Had he gone to Dallas, he of course would have played for all three of the teams in Texas; I think only a couple of players have done that. Tony Massenburg only needs a year with the Lakers and then one with Dallas, and he'll not only have broken Chucky Brown's record, he'll have played for all the NBA teams in Texas, California and Canada (going back to the time the Grizz were still in Vancouver).

I guess Dallas think if they go ahead and sign him, they can go ahead and win a championship If I was Horry, I wouldn't go mainly because I would want another ring and I just don't think the Mavs just have what it takes to win one right now.

Dallas is a team that contains many stars players but never be able to succeed in getting to the Finals. In the last 2-3 years, Their big 3 is always Dirk, Finley and Nash. In 2004, Dallas has Walker and Jamison. Last season, Dampier, Van Horn and Stackhouse. Still they failed to reach to the Finals. Is Horry the last piece the Dallas need in order to win the championship? Probably so but Dirk always want to take big shots in crunch time so Horry might not be a good fit in Dallas. Therefore, it is better for Horry to stay with the Spurs, especially when the Spurs won the title last season.

9 over 3 seasons is 3 million a year. 3 < 4.9 last I checked.

This exception may be split and given to multiple players. It may be used for contracts of up to six years in length. Signing a player to a multi-year contract does not affect a team's ability to use this exception every year. For example, a team can sign a player to a six-year contract using this exception and still use the exception the following year to sign another player. (Although 5 years will be the max length you can sign a player to under the new CBA, since max contracts are coming down by a year across the board).

Sim games don't usually allow you to split the mid level exception so that's why I found it weird.
