What's the difference between Illustrator and Photoshop.
is it that Illustrator makes real life pictures more something :? :? and Photoshop creates images with colours and effects and stuff?

I have both and i know Photoshop is t3h ultim8 pr0gram and i used illustrator for school (not much because semester is over and i just bludged in the subject)

yeah so i just want to know

By the way i completely suck at Photoshop and i don't understand ANYTHING in the tutorials :shake:

I don't really know the difference since I don't have Illustrator, but I do know that most people use illustrator to make "vectors", which are basically pictures of people (or anything) that is created with the pen tool.

Catch me on AIM/MSN sometime and maybe I can help you out at PS.

Photoshop is more for working with real pictures.
Illustrator is like a program you could you to design a logo eg. for a sports team.
I got both since my parents used to work in the graphic section and had their own company but they had to quit for various reasons.

What I had to do on Illustrator was to scan a picture i drew, and then use the pen tool on Illustrator to go over the picture and then make a Sign. I also had to make a Milk Carton but I didn't get to finish it, it sucked anyways cos i can't draw for shit

Photoshop is primarily for raster images whereas Illustrator is for vector images..

both are very powerful programs.. I use both.. Photoshop for digital editing, sketching, and painting.. Illustrator for design and cartooning

I'll give an example of both something I've done in photoshop and illustrator that I think will outline the difference between producing images using raster graphical manipulation and vector graphical manipulation

Photoshop

Notice the individual strokes, subtle tonal variation, relatively high amounts of detail (although high detail can be acheived in illustrator it takes a higher degree of skill or time investment).. these are things that characterise the capabilities of photoshop

Illustrator

NOTE: this forum will auto resize the image so click on it to display the image unaltered in another window

Notice the bold lines, the cleanness and precision (acheived with none of those skills i might add), these are the kinds of things that are characterised by vector graphics in illustrator.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses and both have crossover (although fairly limited) between each other in terms of features and editing. Both our highly powerful and have massive time saving implications granted by the strengths that apply to them respectively
