The Clippers Draft

This was a pretty dissapointing and bad draft for the Clippers, it definately merits a failing grade. While Korolev has promise and can be a good player, passing up on Granger, Green, and Wright to take him is not really a smart move.

Korolev can be good, but how good can he be? Their were many higher ranked and better players, and Korolev could likely have been attained at #32 because no one else seemed interested in him.

Now, moving on to the #32 pick, this was also terrible. Ewing is a 6'3 PG/SG, who really doesn't have many PG skills to show, and IMO will not be in the league that long. The Clippers did the same thing last year drafting Lionel Chalmers, another PG/SG, and Keyon Dooling was a similar pick in the lottery a few years ago.

Overall this was a very poor draft, and the Clippers did not improve at all at least for now through the draft.

I don't know about Korolev, but Ewing has zero PG skills. He's a wing player any you want to twist it. If the Clippers want to play him at the point, that will be a disaster.

They're overloaded with guards, I really don't know why did they draft two more. And I doubt that Korolev will be able to play on mid NBA level in two-three years more.

To be honest, if the Clips picked Granger at 12, I think Larry would have snatched Korolev at 17. So I THANK the Clippers for picking Korolev because... I do not see AK47 in this guy.

This guy sucks,but at leas they kept their promise.

Korolev can play can play PG/SG/SF/PF.

Let's see what he can contribute this year to this franchise.

I've read good things about Koralev, and this wasn't draft related.

He's certainly potential, while guys like Granger seem like the real deal...so i do agree that it was stunning that he dropped so low.

yep....I think Clippers should have drafted either Danny Granger or Antoine Wright at 12....and then if they felt obliged to keep their promise, trade the #32 and something to pick him in the late teens or early twenties....

Korolev would've been a great pick... next year, or the year after. He's played against no one of note, and averaged 4/4 in one of the weaker teams in Europe. If Andrei Kirilenko was German, I doubt Korolev would've gone in the first round.

CSKA Moscow one of the weakest teams in Europe...?!?!?!?!? Hardly. Theoretically, they're the second best after Maccabi Tel Aviv... sespite finishing 4th in the Euroleague Final Four this spring.

And Korolev didn't play a single game with the men's squad, only the second/youth team, if I'm not mistaken...

Well, I agree that the Russian league is not one of the Top 4 in Europe, but in latter years it's gotten pretty strong. There has been a spending spree in Russian team sports the past 4 years or so, and basketball there has really been elevated a level or two.

But CSKA did not only dominate the Russian league finishing undefeated, the did pretty musc the same thing in the Euroleague group stages. They had like 1 defeat in 20 group games, before choking and losing both games at home in the Final four.

Portland's Sergei Monya , who is 22 years old, doesn't find much playing time there, and Viktor Khryapa didn't either last year. So it's understandable that Yaro didn't play at all thsi season.

not many players 22 and under play significant minutes in the big leagues in Europe, unless your name is Gelabale or Lorbek....

lol, definately not, I think he has good potential, but he's more of a pick for the future. I've thought a little about the Ewing pick and it might not be too bad.

Ewing is a SG/PG, so he's got fairly decent scoring ability. He can be used as a defensive guy off the bench to play alongside Livingston, so Livingston won't have to guard small, quicker players on defense. While Livingston is capable of doing it because of his length and quickness, their's no need for him to constantly be tiring himself against them. Ewing can play in rotations and guard opposing PG's, while Livingston guards SG's, and on offense, they switch.

you never know, a Kiralenko (couldnt be bothered spelling that right) clone would be a great fit around Brand and Maggette and Livingstone, it would give the clippers a different angle to other NBA teams with their shortest starter being Maggette at 6'6".....

Its a long shot, but the clippers are famous for their long shot tactics... one of these days eh?

They even signed him, I hope Korolev can do something by next season or hes another Melvin Ely. We should have gone with Green if we wanted a project and Granger if we really wanted to go into the playoffs although I do get the feeling Danny Granger is extremely overrated by scouts.

My point was, that the Clips used their second round pick in the 30-35 vicinity, the exact same way they used it last year. And IT DIDN'T WORK last year...
