Lakers in 2006 season

Postby Kemp on Mon Jul 04, 2005 3:50 pm

With Phil Jackson back. How far will the Lakers go in 2006 season? Their best players are Kobe, Lamar and Caron. I see that they certainly need a good PG with size. Askins does not fit well with this team, Lakers should trade him. Also, is Divac coming back to play? If not, they need to find a good center. Nihm is OK but need a good backup. How will the triangle offence run with this roster? Is Odom going to play point-forward? A lot of changes needs to be done before Phil can take the Lakers to the playoffs in 2006.

The Lakers are gonna be 7th or 8th in the Western conference i rekkon.

Theyll start the season without Odom or C Butler.

Atkins will stay, but theyd rather he be a backup obviously.

The Lakers don't need to trade Atkins. He's a shooter and bench guy so he was playing out of role last year. We could use him from off the bench. I see Caron sticking at the 1 man role while Lamar will certainly get his fair amount of ballhandling jobs. I expect Ronny Turiaf to step into the rotation immediately and if Chris Mihm can fix his road game inconsistency then the Lakers have a better frontcourt than many see. Andrew bynum will be riding a lot of the pine and the team will pursue some kind of veteran free agent. Jax is going to force Grant to learn how to play defence but the team isn't going to be expecting much though. I'd say a 6-8th seed is possible but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much...

... only because the pick of Bynum really emphasises that Jax isn't intent on rushing things.

Antonio Daniels in LA?

Jax is going to force Grant to learn how to play defence

If your talking about Brian Grant, the guy knows how to play defense, He got that big contract because of his defense and his rebounding. Its his knees that dont allow him to do the things he could do in the past.

My bad, this is what im trying to say: Jackson mentioned defence as a priority, and specifically singled out Grant as a player who will need to contribute more in that area.

Assuming they have no injuries, I think the playoffs are a realistic goal though I doubt they'll crack the top four again so soon.

you really think lakers will only get to 7 or 8th place?? Why would Buss pay 10 million a year to Phil just to barely make the playoff?? If they just want to make the playoff, they can hire someone else at a much cheaper price. I see them in the final next year!
Odom will stay for sure! As for butler, I dont know, if the lakers get a good point guard, he might be gone though.

Really? And why would Kuptchak draft Bynum if they expect immediate success?

i think 6-8 seed will be a good target.... and passing the 1st round will be a great achievement. i hope Lakers will not be struck by injury woes like last season....

They can probably get Sacramento's spot in the playoffs this coming season as I don't see Sacramento being as good as their records showed this past season. They could crack the 8th and perhaps 7th spot but it doesn't matter when you will probably lose to the top seeds in round 1.

Anything they do this coming year will be better than this year. I'm fairly confident they will make the playoffs this year.

They played better as a team. When Kobe was there, it was 1-on-5.
