Umm, go with the Knicks. Yeah they're a big market, but they've been underdogs for a long time now. In 99 as underdogs they got to the Finals. Again, they're in a big market, but they're an underdog in their own city. everyone in New York is pro-Yankee. They are the big market. 26 World championships overshadows the Knicks 2. Knicks are the underdog team everyone thinks sucks and won't be good for years.

They have rookies with Frye, Lee, and Robinson.

Shut up, they got lucky.

 Don't be bitter.

You don't win a series in 6 games by luck.

That reminds me,I too should start picking a definite favourite team to cheer for in good and bad times... only 30 teams to choose from.

Oh Green Lantern.. make it 29 if you already hate Kobe!

A team is supposed to be for life, it's something you support with your heart and soul. You stick with them through thick and thin. When they lose you're supposed to bleed, when they win you're supposed to be drunk on the feeling. It's not some fashion accessory you can change when it's convenient or to look cool. Since you've declared your allegence to the Lakers in the past, you should stick with it I think.

Seriously, it boggles my mind that anyone could abandon their team, much less abandon it for nothing. How can you stand to watch a sport and not barrack for anyone? Even in games where I don't really have any reason to care about the result, I still always choose which team I want to win and support them for the day. The result means nothing if you don't feel either agony or ecstacy over it. ;)

I didn't give up on Lakers straight away....I just hated how they gutted their team for Shaq and Kobe....I didn't like Shaq back then at all....I found it hard to continue supporting a team with a front office full of knobs....can't blame them for getting those guys, but yeah, I guess it shows I wasn't really ever a true fan of the team, just of the guys on the team....

but that's why I was asking the question....like you said, it's no fun if you don't have a team that can make all your opinions very one-eyed like most of the guys on this forum  but I ain't going back to the Lakers....

Dweaver wrote:10- I'll send Bernie Bickerstaff an e-mail pretending to be Sean Marks' agent, requaeting a try-out.

Have I convinced you yet?

 if Kirk Penney makes team also, then I'm convinced

cheers for all the suggestions guys....most of you were on track with what I was thinking....

obviously I like the Bobcats, and do have a connection to them in my dynasty....don't like their draft choices though :x but yep, it's a possibility....I'm a sucker for punishment, and they're gonna hurt for a while still....

always had a soft spot for the Raptors ever since they entered the league and Mighty Mouse led the way....and Dweaver, that's where Sean Marks played his first couple of years   I got lost on the way when a guy named Vince Carter came to town....I like the Graham and Ukic picks although the Babycock should have got Granger, Graham and Ukic with those picks  with their front office I can imagine a lot of pain in this one....I don't mind Canadians either, so that helps....

Mafia, I've also been a fan of the Grizzlies ever since they got Gasol....it's one of those teams I like, but at this stage I'm still not a devout follower....I have same feeling about the Nuggets....

a few people said Golden State, and they've got my man Pietrus (sp?) who's about to explode, and they seem to be headed in the right direction....I like them, but don't feel like bandwagoning them....Diogu is a stud and from a smaller school, which is always a positive....

LA Clippers were mentioned, and you gotta like Livingston and some of the other guys, and I will always cheer for them against a better team, but this pick would seem more like Laker hating for me....

but yeah....it seems to be Bobcats at the moment, or Raptors....in a rather ironic twist, I run dynasties for both these teams, so maybe I should have already guessed  but I won't rule out a few of those other suggestions....

I'll have a think over it during the off-season....I'll probably check over team's culture as it's of some importance, what the team's vision and goals are....good character in the players and from top-to-bottom in an organisation are important....

feel free to keep those comments coming....I can easily be swayed with logical arguments, however most of you already had a pretty good inkling of what I was thinking....

since then I have liked a few teams, but never had a favourite team....those teams included Sacramento and Dallas....

I feel like I should get off the fence, as my ass will be hurting by now, and choose a team....I don't have a problem choosing fav college teams, but seem a bit apathetic when choosing a fav NBA team....

there's obviously a few criteria for the choice....
- I don't like the big market teams (Lakers, Knicks, Bulls)
- I like underdogs
- I prefer teams with rookies and prospects

I'll probably support Milwaukee a bit now, but that's just due to the drafting of Bogut....

who knows, Dweaver might be able to convince me to support the Warriors (who I liked back when Spree was playing for them)

any thoughts?

I know! Choose your own team rat.

Sat Jul 02, 2005 4:23 pm

Have you got a favourite player? I'm sure a lot of fans initially start supporting a team because it was (or still is) their favourite player's team, especially those of us living outside the US with no hometown connections.

Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:24 am

have to agree with Andrew there. I only cared for SA and Houston because of TD and Yao... but then I kinda got attached to the whole team. more for SA than Houston though

Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:31 am

I need an Favorite Team, too! I like it spectacular and Big Market! Any Suggestions?

Sun Jul 03, 2005 2:23 am

X, you don't like the Bobcats picks?

I think they did a great job, they picked winners, simple as that.

Sun Jul 03, 2005 2:57 am

How about picking the team(s) that you like the best.

Sun Jul 03, 2005 12:31 pm

gloveguy....I think I got a bit disillusioned by all the player movements over the years and lost my way in picking a favourite team....

indy....I don't mind the Sean May pick, but I don't like the Felton pick at 5....I know they needed a PG, but not him and not at 5....it makes business sense though and from that perspective, I give them a (Y) I would have like to have seen them grab a SG as well like Antoine Wright with #13 pick, as Bogans and co just don't cut it....the picks ain't that bad, but I just think they could have done a little better from a personnel point of view....hopefully they prove me wrong....

Andrew....my favourite players tend to be good college guys who never pan out to much (John Wallace, Laron Profit)....I like underrated guys who do well....hopefully Bobcats sign Ced, bring back Ced

oh, and Carmo :lame: :boohoo:

Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:23 pm

X- go for Tyronn Lue in Atlanta!

i never believed in switching favorite teams. infact i think its gay. you pick a team and that is your team. for me its the celtics. they could trade paul pierce for a 19 year old hot dog vendor and i would still say they are my fav team.

Sun Jul 03, 2005 4:34 pm

where are you from Sauru?

edit: and I don't believe I have ever had a favourite team, so I'm not really swapping....I might have said I liked the Lakers, but really I didn't....I just like one or two of their players and their style of play....once Shaq came in, their style of play changed and I no longer enjoyed watching them play....as simple as that....it's easy for people to support the teams where they are from or where you live (I support Canterbury Crusaders, All Blacks, Queensland and Brisbane teams), but not as easy when you don't have a stake in the result....that's why I'm trying to "emotionally invest" in a team....

Sun Jul 03, 2005 10:01 pm

The Clippers!!!

 GAY?!?!?!?!?!?  :shake:

Mon Jul 04, 2005 12:28 am

I agree with Sauru. I could never change teams, but this guy doesn't seem to be a Laker fan anymore, he might as well just pick a new team and stick with them.

Mon Jul 04, 2005 2:35 am

i am from Boston. also i just want to point out that i used the word gay in a way that does not mean homo or anything, just lame. i should have used lame i guess.

personally i hope that whatever team you end up liking you stick with them, but in the end people cant tell you what you like, you just keep watching the nba and one day go, hey i like this team, then you stick with them for good. for me it was easy, i grew up in boston and love every team from there. i do agree it is easier when you are from a place, which is why i really get upset to see people from boston who run around yelling about how they love the bulls, then they love the lakers, i bet they are running around about miami now even though they didnt win. these people never seem to like teams like the spurs or pistons, just flashy teams. whatever this rant is overwith

Mon Jul 04, 2005 2:39 am

I think about 90% of Australian basketball fans under the age of 22 are Bulls fans. 90% of Australian basketball fans under the age of 16 are Laker fans. Go figure.

Mon Jul 04, 2005 3:24 am

Don't choose Raptors. They're going to a big market as soon as Stern gives a green light for a franchise in Las Vegas .

The Kings are more likely to move. Las Vegas Kings... has a nice ring to it...

Mon Jul 04, 2005 7:21 pm

Sweet, I'm in the minority. Jae, thats sorta wrong, people at my school don't even have a favourite team except for some guy who says, 'i love the NBA'
