Brushing Problem

Postby zmac on Fri Jul 01, 2005 9:59 pm

Ive been making some sigs and avys and all along the brushing ive been doing isnt right, but i went along with it until now.

I really would like someone to help me out with brushing.
I have the brushes, they are installed its just that my brushing doesnt look normal

Heres my problems:
*im not sure whether to use the normal Brush Tool, History Brush Tool or Art History Brush????
Is there any difference?
Because only difference i can find is that on the History and Art History brushed i cant brush in black, only in white.
*Im not sure if i change the size of the brush from its default size (most of them are around 300+)
*I dont know the technique of brushing, obviously its different each time but do i just hold the click and brush everywhere or individual 'dabs'

PLZ HELP ME
Sorry about the essay /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\

HERES A SCREEN OF MY OUTCOME - I THINK IM DOING SOMETHING WRONG

Yeah, same. I'm so great at using brushes but I wonder why.

Brushing is random. And you usually don't want to hold and drag with brushes, you want to click around. Make sure you use different brushes every few clicks, and use multiple layers in black and white and switch around the blending modes. I think I'm going to make a tutorial soon.

I'm familiar enough with photoshop that I configure my brush to suite any purpose..

but the vast majority of times I use a brush with 100% hardness, no smoothing, no shape dynamics, no custom tip..

the reason for this is that no matter what I'm doing shape and sharpness are most important in the early stages of a piece.. it's easy to smooth and render anything in photoshop using the smudge tool or selective blurring, but sharpening is a lot harder.. it's possible but far more time consuming.. in that way it works on the same principle as resizing images.. when you scale an image down it maintains it's crispness but once you scale it back up that detail that you originally had is lost..

ok.. to get the so it's the most solid/standard (one you'll most likely use the most.. especially when any drawing or masking is involved)
  1. Press F5 (to bring out the brush panel.. u can press f5 to hide it again.. or press tab to hide/show all panels  .. that were previously out.. but I digress)
  2. Make sure all of the check boxes in the left pane of the brushes window are unchecked
  3. click on brush tip shape
  4. make sure hardness 100% and spacing is 25% (seems to be standard)
hope that was helpfull.. oic just looked at the image.. i think your problem was probably spacing.. if what I mentioned wasn't helpful tell me and provide some more information (maybe some selective screenies of ur brush panel) and I'll try and help you again.. oh and I only really use brush tool ( B ) for any painting.. only use history brush, pencil and clone tool for painting in select circumstances
