I haven't had a favourite team that I followed hardcore since the showtime LA Lakers, featuring stars like Ced Ceballos, Eddie Jones, Anthony Peeler and Nick Van Exel....once Shaq arrived and Ced was sent packing, I could not stand the Lakers....
since then I have liked a few teams, but never had a favourite team....those teams included Sacramento and Dallas....
I feel like I should get off the fence, as my ass will be hurting by now, and choose a team....I don't have a problem choosing fav college teams, but seem a bit apathetic when choosing a fav NBA team....
there's obviously a few criteria for the choice....
- I don't like the big market teams (Lakers, Knicks, Bulls)
- I like underdogs
- I prefer teams with rookies and prospects
I'll probably support Milwaukee a bit now, but that's just due to the drafting of Bogut....
who knows, Dweaver might be able to convince me to support the Warriors (who I liked back when Spree was playing for them)
any thoughts?

THE TORONTO RAPTORS MAN !
They all fit ur category ...
- Rookies ( Villanueva,Graham,Leni-Ukic,Slokar )
- They are underdogs
Fri Jul 01, 2005 8:34 pm
What about Bobcats?
they have okafor
and are underdogs cos they're new
Fri Jul 01, 2005 8:38 pm
Oh, add Raptors dnt have any GM.. they wont be going big market in the next 20 years!
Yes X, Bobcats are a good idea. Felton and May will rock ur jocks!
Or Nawlins could be a good choice... go for JR Smith!
Fri Jul 01, 2005 10:07 pm
NO Hornets
Toronto Raptors
My personal choice for all of those things would be Golden State with Taft, Diogu and co.

hehe, just like picking a team for francise mode, eh? A lot of back and forth...
Well, if I were you I'd go with Bobcats:
1- They're the newest addition in the NBA
2- You've bonded somewhat with them by using them in your long-lasting dynasty.
3- They don't really have much ol' history you should catch up with, in order to feel comfortable with your knowledge of them.
4- Their inauguration almost coincides with your desire to find a favourite team
5- They are underdogs, and are not expected to start winning for another season or two.
6- They are based in North Carolina, where basketball is something of a religion, despite the popularity reigns being held by College Bball and teh ACC conference.
7 - They get a new arena as of this coming season.
8- There aren't many other Bobcats fans around, even in NC. So when they start winning( and they eventually will, judging from their managerial moves so far...) you will be proud to be one of the first real supporters.
9- Lots of rookies and sophomores playing there, and with another lottery year or two, they'll only increase in numbers.
10- I'll send Bernie Bickerstaff an e-mail pretending to be Sean Marks' agent, requaeting a try-out.
Have I convinced you yet?

How about Orlando Magic? They're the team I follow, not to good and also not to bad, they have 1 superstar like Steve Francis, 1 future prospect Dwight Howard, and also a vetran like Grant Hill. Orlando is an okay choice but its your choice, Orlando are cursed at some times!!

raptors

The L.A. Clippers would be a good choice for me. They are underdogs in a way because they always lived in the Lakers shadow. But hey, they aren't too bad now, they actually had a better record than the Lakers for once in their lifetime

. They don't have that many rookies, but most of them are fairly young, (Brand and Maggette are both like 26) and Shaun Livingston is also a player with potential.
Boston is loaded with rookies, and since they drafted Gerald Green I'm guessing thereare going to be a lot more bandwagoners.
Raptors and Magic also fit into this category and both are my two favourite teams.

Charlotte would make sense for you, X. I think you might have some sort of bond with them because of your dynasty.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 2:04 am
if the chicago wasn't such a big market, they'd probably fit your bill...but I say Charlotte.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 3:09 am
I know it doesn't fit your criteria, but go back to the Lakers.
A team is supposed to be for life, it's something you support with your heart and soul. You stick with them through thick and thin. When they lose you're supposed to bleed, when they win you're supposed to be drunk on the feeling. It's not some fashion accessory you can change when it's convenient or to look cool. Since you've declared your allegence to the Lakers in the past, you should stick with it I think.
Seriously, it boggles my mind that anyone could abandon their team, much less abandon it for nothing. How can you stand to watch a sport and not barrack for anyone? Even in games where I don't really have any reason to care about the result, I still always choose which team I want to win and support them for the day. The result means nothing if you don't feel either agony or ecstacy over it.

Kings...even though they don't match any of your criterias...i just said that because they are my favourite team
Sat Jul 02, 2005 3:42 am
hehe, X, looks like most people are not trying to offer sincere advice, they're just trying to recruit you...

j/k

how about the blazers. the are the youngest team in the nba. the average age is 23. they have about 7 or 8 players under 3 years of experience. they have martell webster, jarrett, sebastian telfair, travis outlaw, viktor khryapa and sergey monya as their youngster. blazers have tons of tallent but no chemistry and are really underrated. i am a blazer fan so thats why i am recommending the blazer!!!

Golden State.
Run TMC...nuff said.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 4:52 am
Run TMC...
Okay, call be stupid, but albeit a GS fan, I still don't know what/who 'Run TMC' refers to... Bear in mind, I live in Europe...
So, enlighten me, people...
Sat Jul 02, 2005 4:53 am
It's the nickname given to the days where the Warriors were cool. Refers to Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin... hence TMC.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:21 am
I'd say Charlotte, an obvious pick because of your dynasty. Plus they have upside with the two NC teammates Felton and May. Okafor is also getting better and could be great.
I wouldn't mind another Sixers fan though, a prospect in Iguodala, they aren't very good right now but they're on the edge of possibly being good, and we have a very exciting player in Allen Iverson. Me, Drex, and The Answer are getting lonely. :p
Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:32 am
Pick the Grizzlies, they are always considered underdogs no matter how good they get you can tell by the way the forum *supports* them
They have plenty of young players on their team and I suggest you hop on the bandwagon before they become real good before it ends up being full once they become a championship caliber team.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:37 am
san antonio spurs seems like a good choice right about now
Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:42 am
Run TMC was one of the movie moments for the NBA. Golden State was a joke at the time. Ok Tim Hardaway, what was he 5' 10" with shoes? Mitch Richmond, a short SG. And then, you've got Mr White Guy Chris Mullin...and those were your MAIN guys.
Run TMC torched the NBA by breaking all the rules. They didn't have big men. They didn't do half-court. They were too short. They couldn't dunk. They couldn't post.
Yet...GS had THREE guys in the top 10 for NBA scoring: Hardaway, Mullin, and Richmond.
Think of the Phoenix Suns except get rid of Amare as a crutch to depend on when your shooting & transition failed. Run TMC had no safety net of all-NBA big man like today's Phoenix or Showtime Lakers, they lived or died by their shot and running game.
I can't remember a team in the NBA that were so underdog that went on to such a record. Phoenix and Sonics come close this year...but both these teams have 2+ All-Stars, the same as most NBA championship teams so they're not exactly complete underdogs.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 5:43 am
I'd say the LA Clippers and Raptors fit your need very well, they're both underdogs, and both have a fair amount of young players.
Sat Jul 02, 2005 6:53 am
I'd go with the Clippers if I were you, even though they are in LA.
