Photoshop section

Postby Big-D on Tue Jun 14, 2005 3:56 pm

i think there should be a section for open photoshop discussion.it would not be a wastefull section and i think it would be apropriate because of the large number of photoshop users.it would be great if you(Andrew) could take this into consideration. thank you very much

I really don't think there's reason for it at this time. If General Talk was filled with Photoshop threads I'd give it more consideration, but there's no advantage into splitting the general forums up into too many sections.

Actually I don't think this is a bad idea at all.. since patchers and such could use it aswell. I mean the graphic related threads that are made usually end up with multiple page replies. Good idea (Y)

If there was a photoshop forum I would post more of the stuff I make and fill it up enough. Agree with Jae. That request a sig thread is on to it's 28th page or something.

As far as patchmaking is concerned, the Patching sections are there for all kinds of tips and techniques, including Photoshop tutorials. I know the "request a signature" thread gets a lot of replies, but it remains one thread. The main question when creating a new section is, "Will there be any interest and is there the demand?" If we're just talking about a few threads, it's basically just general discussion and thus suitable for General Talk.

I think that's because everytime someone tries to post something photoshop related (which is usually showing a sig they've made, or asking advice) people tell them to post it in the sig request thread... which could be why it's so big.

True...but would it really be a good idea if we didn't have that central sticky for signatures? A lot of forums do have sticked threads so there aren't thousands of "Can you make this sig for me?" threads popping up.

If the demand is there, I'm happy to add another section. But in the past, I've added new sections because of a supposed demand and they've remained fairly quiet most of the time (eg Other Basketball Leagues), I'd like to know it wouldn't be practically empty, could easily be moderated and a reasonable amount of posters would make use of it.

That's fair enough, I get a bit frustrated with the lack of activity with Other Sports/Basketball Leagues... I guess what I'd suggest is having a poll just to see if the demand is there, and if it is create the forum on a trial basis. Like 2 months or something just to see if it works, if it doesn't just remove the forum... no harm in trying I guess but only if the demand is there.

On a personal level I'd use it a fair bit, I'm getting my monitor back today so I'll be making alot more stuff. I know Colin and The GOAT probably would use it alot too but 3 people can't keep a whole forum going.

I think a poll would be a fine idea. As I said, I'm happy to add new sections as long as they'll be used. I'd also like to work out how it could be best used - whether multiple request threads should be allowed, which stickied threads should exist, etc.

I'd be there, and a Photoshop-sub would be excellent for this forum I think. Since a lot of patching is depending on a good program (and everyone and their uncle uses Photoshop...) it would be nice to get idea/tips/pointer/showcase stuff.

I understand the arguments put forth by Andrew, but I don't buy in to them fully. A sub-forum wouldn't be amongst the most used but I think it could raise the bar of the forum alltogether.

1. More patchers would get better.
The patching-sections doesn't have a natural place for small pointers and such, a individual forum would make this easier. And a plce for individual stickies for FAQ's (like blend modes and so on..((I dunno, just making it up as I go, don't blame the examples. :P))

2. Better sigs
This doesn't matter for shit, but it's fun

3. More activity
Marginally, but still. I can only speak for myself, but I would rather post that kind of questions here than to add yet another forum to my "visit-and-post-to-get-answers-and-stuff-to-your-questions"-list.

I think a poll is in order. As soon as I decide which section would be most appropriate to hold it, I'll post it in a sticky/announcement thread.

I've created a new thread with a poll, also inviting further suggestions for everyone who would like to reaffirm their enthusiasm for the proposal. (Y)

Oh my, I hadn't even realized it wasn't Habba the first time. I was already like, he doesn't seem the type to call himself a guru.
