What'd you guys think about Common? I noticed a comment up higher in this page, but my friend wants me to go to his concert with her... I haven't heard any of his stuff, you guys got any recommendations? Thumbs up or down to the concert?

Mon Jun 13, 2005 6:41 am

Mon Jun 13, 2005 6:43 am

"The College Dropout" by Kanye West was seriously the fucking greatest CD I've ever heard in my life.

Yeah, I say so to. I've had Be (the song) and The Food going around my head all day.

I just brought The Game - The Documentary and Akon - Trouble today

i aint listened to Akon yet, but i heard his couple of singles on the music channell, hes good, im a fan of R'n'B so i like it.

The Game was actually better than i thought. I guess he is a lot more than How We Do sounded.

I'd recommend the Album anyway, Good Album (Y)

Tue Jun 14, 2005 3:19 am

ive listened to the Game a whole 1 time....too much roll calling (N) a waste of hot beats

anyways, who do you think has the best voice in hip-hop....i'm thinking Bun B and maybe Mos Def

worst voice: Magoo (sounds like a BITCH!!!)

could do with a better voice: Nas, Talib Kweli, Common

Tue Jun 14, 2005 6:02 am

I doubt that he has the best one, but I like Young Buck's.

Tue Jun 14, 2005 6:16 am

Remy Martin! (Y)

You sure? I went to the store last week and they have this huge calendar with what's coming out in the current month (JUNE) and Kanye was on there, just not with a specific day only that it was coming in June. :?
That's basically the reason why I posted the question.

Hey, I agree with OSF.
Kanye is my favorite artist, I even like his songs that aren't on the College Dropout better, i.e. collaborations with other artists and songs from mixtapes. Not the songs from his other CDs though, Freshman Adjustment is an alright CD, but nowhere near the level of College Dropout.
That might also be because I used to listen to College Dropout twice a day for about 2 months.

I looked on a website and that's when it was listed. It might just be US though.

Yeah, College Dropout is the best CD I've bought imo. :D

Are you kidding me? I hate Mos Def's voice, it pisses me off. I can't listen to his songs. Nas, on the other hand, I think his voice is okay. I think Shiddy needs a new voice too, any song with his voice on it sounds bad in my mind. I would listen to A Baltimore Love Thing if I hadn't aquired a hate for Shiddy.

Since most of you on the forums have more knowledge regarding rap, a question.

Most of you know the "You Can Hate Me Now"-song by Nas featuring Puff Daddy, right? Are there any more songs with beats like that? I mean, which would you recomend? I think that song has one of the best beats ever.

How something like Puff Daddy's Come With Me song from Godzilla?

Tue Jun 14, 2005 1:44 pm

CD was good but not great....too many skits that just ruin the flow of the CD

Kanye should really ease up on the samples too.

Tue Jun 14, 2005 3:32 pm

^^agree, too many skits. And Kanye's lyrics leave something to be desired.

Best voices in hip-hop: Chuck D, KRS, Slick Rick, Mos Def (I like it Mike :P ), AZ, GZA, Method Man, ODB, Cormega, and Guru and Jeru (they similar)

Best beats: Pete Rock & CL Smooth - TROY, Big Pun (produced by Dr. Dre) - Twinz (Big Pun took the song Dre did on teh beat called Deep Cover, but Pun's lyrics are better so...), Jeru The Damaja (produced by DJ Premier) - Come Clean, Nas (produced by DJ Premier) - Come Get Me. Look for a bunch of stuff by the aforementioend Pete Rock (the producer) & CL Smooth (The rapper), Gang Starr (DJ Premier's group) and Wu-Tang Clan or other stuff produced by RZA (he did the Kill Bill OST). Mobb Deep got a lot of good beats by Havoc and the Alchemist too.

cant believe you like Guru's voice, he's way too monotonous, puts me to sleep.

Tue Jun 14, 2005 4:44 pm

I love College Dropout.... but a question to all the Kanye fans... How would Kanye do as a singer not a rapper... i notcie hes got an aight voice...

Tue Jun 14, 2005 4:48 pm

Flava Flav's voice is legendary.

"YEAAAAAAHHHHHH BOIIIIIIIIIII!!!!"

I love Guerilla Black's voice (you know why), it's straight up BIG to me. Check out the song "You Are The One" by Guerilla Black feat. Mario Winans, I thought it was an OLD BIG joint with 112 in the back.

Could Guerilla B. be B.I.G. Reincarnated?

Tue Jun 14, 2005 5:46 pm

Could Guerilla B. be B.I.G. Reincarnated?

No... just an imatation from the Westcoast

cant believe you like Guru's voice, he's way too monotonous, puts me to sleep.

At first I wasn't too keen on his voice, but he really grew on me. So much that I'll be going to his performance in Melbourne!

CD was good but not great....too many skits that just ruin the flow of the CD

Kanye should really ease up on the samples too.

Definetely agree with that, the album is overated in my opinion. Too many people claiming this is the changing point of hip hop and shit, two words: it ain't

Most of you know the "You Can Hate Me Now"-song by Nas featuring Puff Daddy, right? Are there any more songs with beats like that? I mean, which would you recomend? I think that song has one of the best beats ever.

I know I've heard a lot of songs with that beat, just can't remember the names...
Gotta agree with you tho, that beat is one of the best ever.

Tue Jun 14, 2005 7:43 pm

Kanye cant sing so he should just let that be....he cant hold a candle to any R&B singers (although Lumidee is the worst singer EVER she makes that asian guy from American Idol look good)
