Bulls: Why?

''There will be no [extension],'' Glass said. ''It's done. It's enough. There was never a deadline. Scott never gave them one. [Monday morning], I brought it to an end. We've had more than enough time to do a deal. What drove this home with me was last Friday, when a club called me at 11:45 in the morning and we had a deal done by 1 o'clock.

''There was no reason for [the Skiles] negotiation to have gone on like this. This was just really a ridiculous process to have to go through. It was not constructive. It was not enjoyable. It was just a negative thing, and when you're stuck in something like that, sometimes it's just best to get out of it.''

Scott will be there whether he wants to or not next year. The Bulls still have that one year option.

"Bitterness between the Bulls and coach Scott Skiles has reached a level that not only have talks ended regarding a contract extension, but it's also likely the organization won't even pick up the option on Skiles for next season. And that apparently would satisfy Skiles and his agent, Keith Glass."

So far for that "stuff" Paxson said about signing Skiles for next season. This makes me wonder if the same thing will happen with Curry and/or Chandler.

Scott will be there whether he wants to or not next year. The Bulls still have that one year option.

But if Skile doesn't like the money he is getting, he can resign.

You wouldn't want to have a non-100% percent motivated Rick Carlisle on the bench, would you Indy? Skiled might just be finished from Chicago as of now...

and it's the bulls choice to pick up that option or not. so skiles is really at management's mercy.

as far as this whole skiles thing, the only information that's out there is the alleged contract the bulls offered him 4yrs/17 mill. the rest of the detailis are unknown. is reinsdorf a master negotiator? maybe all these negative comments made by glass are his ways of negotiating. who really knows?

now this contract would make him the 4th highest paid coach, behind big names like sloan, brown, pop. skiles is nowhere near that class in terms of coaching.

personally i wouldn't like to see him get a contract longer then 3yrs. the nba shelf life is that number and with his disciplinarian style, the players will start to tune him out a la doug collins.

the bulls offered multiyear contracts to cartwright & pink floyd and both were fired prematurely, leaving the organization stuck paying their contracts

if skiles doesn't come, so be it. there are some good coaches out there and the bulls is great situation for coaching- smart, young exec in john paxson, a young talented roster, and a very supportive fan base

NBA coaches as a whole are totally underpaid & undervalued, which is why the best coaches of the game are in college, not in the NBA.

If the Bulls want an average NBA coach who sits back and lets the players do whatever the hell they want, they can go go pay an average NBA coach salary and get just that and sit in the middle of the NBA dead-man zone where they don't make the playoffs or get good picks.

If they want to actually do something of significance, then maybe they should consider they're paying Eddie Robinson $5.4M and he doesn't even play for the team, and take a look at what $4M buys them in Skiles.

I bet $4M is less than Reinsdorf's dining expenses, please.

I was hoping Skiles would be around at least another year, given the success he had this season, but if it takes another coach to come in to take them to the next step, so be it. Shame there has to be a bitter public "divorce" though.

Good news, hopefully he won't suffer the same disappointment and fate of Floyd and Cartwright...though as far as results go, he's easily beaten both of them.

skiles signed on for to deal similarly to the one he refused so vehemently

i found it interesting that skiles worked out his contract directlywith reinsdorf.. no agent this time. skiles and his agent looked like the fools in this one

now to move on with the resignings....

Sounds like both parties met half-way ($3M) on the guaranteed portion, which is the real contract.

Skiles and Glass then told Paxson they would negotiate no more after they said the Bulls refused to meet them halfway in a process that started with Skiles asking for $20 million over four years and the Bulls offering $17 million over four with $14 million guaranteed.

Thirty minutes later, Skiles and Reinsdorf had agreed on a four-year contract worth $17 million — all guaranteed.

i think they need one more year of a disciplinarian like skiles. after that, i could see them going after a more established coach
