Pistons is the DIRTIEST team in the history of NBA!

It depends if you are trying to injure your opponents with really unsportmanlike contact. That's the difference between hard, physical D and dirty play.

Dirty is faking being foulled and tugging on shirts or pushing opponents with too much excessive force... but a bit of physical contact shouldnt be dirty! its called brains!

I still don't think that foul Artest did on Ben was hard.

And yeah, there's no way you could call the current Pistons teams dirty based on some of the crap you just said.

the knicks used to beat the shit outa jordan back in the day. the east has always been known for thier tough play while the west was always more run and gun. this hole thing about the pistons playing dirty has some merit but not by the team they have now. i remember back in the 80's watching the pistons and the celtics fight every time they matched up, great stuff really lol.

ntong i hate the pistons but get your facts straight.

a.) karl malone did not get hurt by the pistons; he was injured by scott williams of the phoenix suns ACCIDENTALLY
b.) it wasn't pistons vs. the pacers that led to the thugsome threesome to get suspended. it was o'neal/artest/jackson/ vs. the palace of auburn hills. you didn't see any pistons throwing punches to the pacers (maybe except ben wallace palming artest's face) did you? please note that artest WALKED AWAY from wallace after he did so
c.) even if artest was still around the pistons could've probably beat them still. imo, they were the more experienced and better team (this coming from someone that doesn't like the pistons very much)
d.) wade's injury was not a deliberate act from rasheed. wade stood his ground for a charge - rasheed ran into him then blam, he went down. the rib injury was just unfortunate. it's pretty much like going up for a rebound and landing on someone's foot. you don't want it to happen but sometimes it just does.

Like I said, I know Karl's injury wasn't direct from piston, but he was at least playable in game 1, and the 1st quarter of game2 until he got hit again. The bowl was between pacers and pistons' fans, but Wallace was the one who caused it, if there wasnt the push from Wallace, why would that dumb ass throw cup at artest. If artest is still around, Prince wouldn't be that effective. If artest could play, Reggie wouldn't be wore down so much in the first round, and during the season. If artest could play, Pacers definitely could beat celtics in 5 games, so they could have more time to rest. Pacers has been to the playoff for 7 straight years, how could you say that pistons are more experienced??? The only advantage pistons had in terms of playoff experience was that they won the champion last year, but pistons and pacers played in the 2nd round of playoff this year, not final!

The poor guy was standing under the basket with his back to Laimbeer, who charged into him for no reason at all (or just because he is the anticrist) and pushed him over while dunking at him. The guy broke his leg, and Laimbeer never apologized!!! I love that guy, my favorite player of all time.

Those Pistons-Celtics games were downright nasty - old-fashioned blood feuds. Same with the early 80s Sixer-Celtic matchups. There was genuine hatred between those teams.

Now you want to talk physical, look at the OLD Celtics. They were always known for being rough. Tom Heinson, and later, Dave Cowens & Paul Silas. You drove down the lane, you paid for it. They made a man out of you real quick.

Any old-time Bulls fans remember 'Stormin' Norm Van Lier & Jerry Sloan? You were sore after playing those cats.

Another nasty duo was Jeff Ruland & Rick Mahorn when they played for the old Washington Bullets. They were known as the 'Beef Brothers'.

Hell yeah. I don't know how far back you go, but basketball was much tougher in the 60s, 70s & even the 80s. I guess Stern had enough thanks to Riley's Knicks and tightened up on the rough stuff.

On the subject of brutal incidents and changing times, what do you think would have happened to Kermit Washington had the incident with Rudy T happened in more recent times? Compared to the penalties today, he got off rather lightly - a 60 day suspension and a $10,000 fine - though at the time, his punishment was the harshest handed out in league history.

i believe that since nba players are signed to huge contracts, organizations are trying to protect their investments, thus the move away from this physical play, turning the game almost like a wnba atmosphere. a player falls down and refs are thinking about handing out flagrants fouls.

I thought Kermit got unfairly tagged as a 'thug'. I remember seeing that on the news, and it was scary as hell(the whole stadium went quiet - someone said it sounded like a watermelon hitting the pavement). Blood was coming out of Rudy T's ears - I read he almost died that night. But Rudy T ran up on Kermit while he was fighting someone else. You NEVER do that. Kermit, already fired up, felt someone coming behind him. He didn't know what that person's intentions were, and he lashed out. Think of the fights you guys have been in - you can hardly think straight.
