He did a nice job taking a gamble that he knew would work with the unconventional (at least in this era) fastbreaking small ball. Still, I would've given it to either Nate McMillan or Scott Skiles.

good decision, although there were a few others which wold have deserved it...eddie jordan, scott skiles, nate mcmillan, rick carlisle...

I would have given it to Scott Skiles...

No way, Nate all the way.
Both Phoenix and the Bulls got multiple impact players added to their rosters.
Seattle actually lost their starting Center and their major acquisition was Danny Fortson
No wonder LeBron wants him to coach the cavs.

Difficult to argue against it because the Suns had a great year and even considering the changes they made this offseason, performed better than most of us would have predicted.
I suppose it's a question of sustained excellence vs overachieving. This year I would have leaned towards the latter, partly because Skiles was in the running but also because of the efforts and success of Eddie Jordan, Nate McMillan and Rick Carlisle. Skiles and Carlisle in particular overcame difficult obstacles and did succeeded after many people had written them off for the season.
Once again I'll be interested to see the final voting, as while I agree that D'Antoni is deserving of the award, I hope those other coaches garnered a significant amount of votes. This is another award that shouldn't be close to unanimous this season.

personal choice is Nate, but D'Antoni is a good pick

I would've given it to Nate McMillan aswell, I mean most people thought Seattle would be going for one of the top 3 draft picks this season. Who would've known

Just like 80% of the people in this thread, I'd rather have seen McMillan get it.
Then again, maybe more than 80% didn't want Nash to get MVP either.
What kind of fools are voting for this shit?

What kind of fools are voting for this shit?
Or... what kind of fools are browsing these forums?

I'd say maybe Nate or Skiles should've won it, but I'm happy D'Antonio got it. It was tough for him being moved up after 21 games last season, and also not having the personell because of injuries to implement his system, but he's done a good job in progressing this season.
It was a big gamble for D'Antonio to do what he did. He basically said screw defense, we'll play small ball, get layups and dunks, and shoot three's, and not too many coaches would've done that, so really he got the best out of his players.
...but with that talent, many other coaches would've won a lot of games too, I'd have given it to Nate, but D'Antonio very did good himself.

I don't understand why everyone still says Phoenix is a bad defensive team, they were 15th in the league overall defensively, so that would make them an average defensive team. They get the stops when they need them.
I would have gone with either Carlisle or McMillan but I still give tons of credit to D'Antoni for moving Amare over to the 5 and Marion over to the 4, people seem to ignore that it was his move that basically enabled Phoenix to play this type of style.

Phoenix coud be a good defensive team, but I think they ealize if they were working super hard on defence their offence would be affected in a negative way that would outweigh the positives on defence. They know they're better at offence and stick to it.

Phoenix
Amare - all star (I'd argue top 10 in the league)
Marion - all star
Q-rich - near all star
Joe Johnson - near all star and could be all star
Steve Nash - all star (Wasn't he "MVP"?<sarcasm>)
vs
Seattle
Jerome James? - a nothing
Vladimir Radmonovic - ok player
Rashard Lewis - all star
Ray Allen - all star
Luke Ridnour - ok player but not even as good as Joe Johnson
The Phoenix Suns have much better players. I know coach D'Antoni made a bold decision making them run like never before, but isn't that kind of what Dallas was? Except Phoenix has better players and is supported by the new rules put in the league? I think Nate McMillan deserved it.

good choice. i thought him, mac, skiles, carlisle were all worthy

I was glad that Rick got second place in the voting. I woud have thought he would get 3rd or 4th, but I think he deserved number 2, and that's what he got.
