Who is the best "clutch" of all time?

This is my list in order of preference and accomplisment during clutch times:

1. Michael Jordan- 6-0 in the finals, the shot, national championship, etc
2. Magic Johnson- 5 rings, the 1980 Final as a rookie is memorable
3. Larry Bird- numerous buzzer beaters, that steal he made to the piston
4. Jerry West - a.ka. Mr. Clutch
5. Reggie Miller-3 pointers King!!!


When the game is on the line and you're behind, these are the top 3 guys to take the buzzer beater:

1. Michael Jordan
2. Jerry West
3. Reggie Miller

i'll take Jordan any day.....has there ever been a better mid range shooter? has there ever been a guy that can create his own shot with such ease? I don't think so.

I think stealing the ball from Malone and scoring over Russell to win the championship is as clutch as it gets, cherry on the cake.

I'd problably put Reggie second, but MJ is definitely the most clutch. He had the best midrange jumper of anyone in the game, and he ALWAYS took the last shot. I put Reggie second because of the whole 8 points in 8.9 seconds stuff, and because he's made so many game-changing 3's, but even when he was with the Wizards out of retirement with bad knees and all, he still always took the last shot.

anyways MJ is number one and Reggie is number two for me........everyone in the world knows these two will vie for the last shot.....and that the defense is going to be straight at their face but yet......90% of the time they still deliver

I've only seen Jordan made alot of buzzer-beaters..
but not the others.
so i cant really tell who's best..

I rank Michael Jordan first (not surprises there) because of his clutch performances in games of little consequences and big games alike. His heroics also include defensive plays. Of the players generally associated with these lists, Jordan stands as the player who could best turn it up a notch at both ends.

Larry Bird has to be second though. He too excelled under pressure in the big games. So confident was Bird in his ability to make the final shot, he'd often tell his defender where he was going to get the ball and when he was going to shoot...then do it.

Third place has to go Reggie, who has plenty of game winning shots. He can fire with such accuracy so quickly, he's a danger to any team defending him with a slim lead with just seconds left on the clock. Jordan and Bird were much more dangerous players though.

West is up there too, and he's deserving of the nickname "Mr Clutch" - but I can't rank him above those three because of the amount of times he lost in the Finals.

Some active players have quite a few, Kobe, Iversion, McGrady just to mention a few.

According to the article Michael Jordan has made 25 winning shots throughout his career as a Bulls player. Does anybody has the count of how many he had as a Wizard?

I remember at least a couple. But for Michael Jordan and all the other great cluch players, you also have to take into account performances that won the game in the fourth quarter that didn't necessarily include a shot at the buzzer or close enough to the buzzer to be considered a game winner, as well as defensive plays like Bird's steal in the 1987 playoffs against Detroit.

I think Charles Barkeley is one of those who got offended..
Bird isn't a BAD defender, he's an average defender who knows how to play within the team defense.

i would have to go with Bird in first. maybe i am a bit biased in saying this but i watched him grow up. i saw the things he did more than i saw what everyone else did. andrew is right when he says bird would tell the other team where and when he was gonna shoot, then he would go win the game. one thing i loved that bird did was shoot the shot then walk away without watching it go in. he just knew he would not miss.

you could put mj right there with bird. honestly imo these 2 are clearly the top 2 with reggie easily in the 3rd spot. i dont think you can put anyone in the history of the nba up there with these 3. i might consider giving reggier a higher spot than 3 if he was mr clutch in the finals.

also, for those putting mcgrady and peja into this thread is just insulting. i mean come on now.
