Crunch Time (April Madness)

Fri Apr 08, 2005 1:19 pm

With less than 10 games left for each side, for the best part the wheat has been separated from the chaff and it seems as though there are only really 3 playoff spots in contention. Clearly some of the remaining undecided teams are heading in different direction. So my question is, who do you think won't cut it this season and why?

Cleveland (38-36) (8 games)
HOME: (3 gm.) 4/9 MIL. 4/14 NYK. 4/19 BOS.
ROAD: (5 gm.) 4/8 PHI. 4/11 ORL. 4/15 WAS. 4/17 DET. 4/20 TOR.

Memphis (42-32) (8 games)
HOME: (4 gm.) 4/8 MIA. 4/10 CHA. 4/18 SAS. 4/20 DAL.
ROAD: (4 gm.) 4/11 DAL. 4/13 HOU. 4/15 DEN. 4/16 SAS.

Minnesota (40-35) (7 games)
HOME: (4 gm.) 4/8 DEN. 4/13 GSW. 4/17 SEA. 4/20 SAS.
ROAD: (3 gm.) 4/9 ATL. 4/15 UTA. 4/18 NOH.

New Jersey (37-39) (6 games)
HOME: (3 gm.) 4/9 BOS. 4/17 PHI. 4/19 WAS.
ROAD: (3 gm.) 4/13 IND. 4/15 TOR. 4/20 BOS.

Philadelphia (37-37) (8 games)
HOME: (5 gm.) 4/8 CLE. 4/12 BOS. 4/14 MIA. 4/18 MIL. 4/20 ATL.
ROAD: (3 gm.) 4/9 WAS. 4/15 IND. 4/17 NJN.

Bring it.

Wolves will be 8th seed and go to the finals just like the 1999 Knicks...which had LATRELL SPREWELL! It's all set up. It's destiny.

I voted for cavs.. but now that I look at it.. memphis have a fking hard slog for their final 8 games.. charlotte is their only lock for victory and they could end up losing all of the 7 others.. I wreckon dropping those games to portland and new orleans will cost them a playoffs appearance.. i wreckon the twolves will finish 1 or 2 games up on them..

as for the east.. god.. such a tight call I honestly have no idea whats going to happen.. as a nets fan I'd usually have a gut feeling (going along with this season) that they'd choke.. but for some reason I'm mildly positive... damn.. I just can't call it

Right now I'd say New Jersey. I think Minnesota has a better chance at catching Memphis than the Nets have of overtaking the Sixers.

I dont know if the Minn. will be able to make the 8th spot because Denvers been raising in the tree and Memphis looks like they would be able to hold on to that 8th spot. So maybe next year.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 3:21 pm

There is no next year! It's now or never! Until...next year comes then it's now or never again but right now you gotta win! KG will not let us lose!

And Memphis can suck the pope's balls for all I care. The Timberwolves will be champions in June and you'll all remember this and say "Damn, Pope Riot is really intelligent"

Fri Apr 08, 2005 6:58 pm

Minnesota, if they make the 8th spot, knock out the Suns... then knock out the Spurs and if they do, then I will say they should bve champs.

Riot, its now or never for the Wolves... I dont think they will be as good as they are this year next year.. seiously, i think this is the year they should win... good luck to them.

I think Memphis will slip out of the playoffs!

i clicked cleveland by mistake cause my mouse at works sucks(still has a ball for god sake) but i meant memphis. looking at thier final games i am convinced that minesota is gonna take them, despite them being 3 loses better than the wolves right now.

I think Minnesota will edge out Memphis as well, but my vote goes to Cleveland in making the playoffs. I doubt they will drop below 8th seed.

Clevland isn't making it this year. The new coach is just fixed on putting Eric Snow in the game when it's clear Jeff Mcinnis is the best PG on the roster. Also Lebron is having to do too much. Besides LJ, there is no one is who can create his own shot. They just don't have enough scoring options to get the W's down the stretch

Sat Apr 09, 2005 7:32 am

They are struggling right now, but looking at their record and their schedule, they are in a position to win a few more games, and they're still 7th in the east.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 8:24 am

If Minnesota loses tonight to Denver and Memphis beats the Shaq-less Heat, all Memphis has to do to clinch is win 3 games...regardless of what the Timberwolves do. (N)

That's quite obvious, isn't it?

Sun Apr 10, 2005 3:54 am

Yes, they have the same roster of last year, and no suspensions.

Sun Apr 10, 2005 4:04 am

However, to the Timberwolves defense it was a different team. Last year Wally, Olowokandi and Husdon were all out so Sprewell, Cassell and Garnett HAD to score and everyone knew their roles and when they were going to play. This year, everyone was healthy and Sprewell and Cassell's minutes weren't consistent. The only minutes that were consistent were Garnett's. Nobody really knew their roles and that falls on Saunder's shoulders.

Also, Cassell has been hurt and he was one of the main reasons why the Wolves were so good last year. Cassell and Garnett carried the team, but when Cassell went down we had nobody to run the offense like Sammy did. Hudson can't do what Cassell does, and Anthony Carter can't either. So there are no excuses because the team played selfish and with a lack of energy and hustle all year and NOW they decide to turn the switch on but at the same time, I still think about what this season COULD have been. I think the team will be back next year. Hell, it isn't even over yet. Go Wolves.

Sun Apr 10, 2005 4:36 am

Well written, but they're still teh biggest dissapointment of the season :P

Sun Apr 10, 2005 4:49 am

Yes, they are. By far. (N)

Sun Apr 10, 2005 11:35 am

Well.. they still have a chance right?

Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:11 pm

Not anymore, they just lost to the Hawks. They need to go 4-1 the rest of the way and have Memphis or Denver go 1-5.

Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:38 pm

Ok.. they are out of it... man, KG gottas keep his head up!
