Philly beat Boston, Orlando 1 game behind, New Jersey 1.5...

Thu Apr 07, 2005 7:42 am

Big road win for the Nets against Cleveland.

Philadelphia plays the Bobcats today, that should be a win for them tonight.

Orlando plays Chicago, with the way the Bulls have been playing Chicago should get the win.

wins will be hard to come by again since curry isn't playing until friday, harrington is not with the team since his wife is close to delivering a baby, and deng is out of for the year

i think they got a shot at beating the magic anyway ;)

Thu Apr 07, 2005 11:46 am

Philly beat Charlotte plus Webber's coming back earlier than expected, so that'll pretty much make it Philly for the last east play-off spot...

Thu Apr 07, 2005 12:36 pm

cavs free falling maybe nets might take their spot. I know LeBron would be pissed if he misses the playoffs this year!

Thu Apr 07, 2005 11:50 pm

Nets definetly could make the playoff if Vince continues to play, he has been playing for the past week. And as for phily, the c-webb trade might be a good trade in the long run but this season it has definely affected the teams chemistry in a bad way

Nothing I would like more than to see Vince Carter fail.

Same here...

Philly plays Cleveland on Friday and if they win, they take 7th spot in the east!

Fri Apr 08, 2005 12:06 pm

New Jersey meanwhile has edged a little bit closer with an impressive victory over New York thanks to Carter's 32 points and Kidd's triple double.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:03 pm

The Cavs are sturuggling... The Nets and Sixers might make the playoffs! And Melo gonna make it too.. poor Bron!

Fri Apr 08, 2005 10:03 pm

Don't count Cleveland out yet.

Fri Apr 08, 2005 10:11 pm

I wont.. but they are sliding.. fast!

And i wanna see Bron miss again! :P I like Melo more...

Fri Apr 08, 2005 11:47 pm

Cleveland will probably hold on for at least 8th....we'll just have to see what the Nets can do

Sat Apr 09, 2005 5:54 am

a win over new york isn't impressive, andrew :P

Sat Apr 09, 2005 6:23 am

lol, that's exactly what Jason Kidd said.

Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:35 am

Wonder what Starbury said after Kidd said that ^

Sat Apr 09, 2005 12:16 pm

"I AMZ THE GREATEST PG EVA!!!!"

ffs.. ai is carrying the sixers... if they win 3 more games it's gonna leave nj on the outer.. that 1pt loss to orlando is fken stinging right now.. guess now we're focussing on the decline of the cavs..

but yeah.. nets can only play their own games.. rest is out of their hands.. I'm glad that atleast they've had a sniff considering what a shit year it's been in terms of off-season and injuries

Sat Apr 09, 2005 12:24 pm

But it been a great second half comeback for the season!

Not in the great scheme of things, but the final score and statistical output by Vince and Kidd were impressive. Perhaps emphatic would have been a better term to use. ;)

Big win against the Celtics tonight.

Kidd with 4 points! And 17 assists, but come on, 4 points!

Carter with 45, but come on, 4 points!

:)

Anyways, the Nets are beating the teams I didn't think they could beat (Some fan I am).

Big win, now I'm more confident than ever.

Sun Apr 10, 2005 1:51 pm

lol, yea Kidd was feeding Carter, he didn't really look to core much, feed the hot hand.

Sun Apr 10, 2005 2:13 pm

Man this is great! So VC and JKidd are a good duo after all!

he is a PG so i would take 0 points if it came with 17 assists. his job was done. now i have not seen how many shots he put up, so that might change my opinion on this.

Here's an article I found on NBA.com:

Nets' playoff hopes
riding on Cavs' fold

Jason Kidd and the Nets need some help to get in the playoffs.

Vince Carter keep scoring 45 points. Jason Kidd can continue to dish 17 assists. And the Nets can keep winning and yet they still may not make the playoffs.
Despite winning 11 of their last 14 games, the Nets still find themselves needing help from the Cavaliers or Sixers. Both teams lead the Nets by a 1-1/2 games for the seventh and eighth spots in the Eastern Conference.

"We just have to worry about us," Carter said after he scored a season-high 45 points in a win over Boston on Saturday. "I won't look at how many games we're out because I think it's all a wash if you worry about it and see all these teams losing and then you start losing. So my thing is go out there and win as many games as possible and worry about how the New Jersey Nets can get into the playoffs and hopefully that's good enough."

The Nets originally thought a run like the one they have made would get them in. However, the Sixers and Cavs are still ahead of them.

With five games remaining in the season, the Nets (38-39) could go 4-1 and would still need Philadelphia (39-37) or Cleveland (39-37) to win only two of their remaining six games to squeeze into the postseason.

Otherwise, the Nets have to hope that they can finish tied with struggling Cleveland for the eighth spot since the Nets won the season series with the Cavs, 3-1. Jersey can win the season series against the Sixers 3-1 if the Nets top their division foe Sunday at the Meadowlands.

The way the Sixers are playing - they have won four straight - the Nets likely will need Cleveland to continue its downward spiral.

The Cavs are just 8-16 in their previous 24 games and appear to be in disarray under new ownership. Cleveland has four of its final six games on the road but only three of their remaining games are against playoff opponents.

The Sixers play just two of their last six games on the road, with their toughest contests against the Celtics, Heat, at Pacers and at Nets.

The Nets embark on a two-game road trip on Wednesday against Indiana and Toronto, the latter of which will not be easy since it is Carter's first game back as a Net. They return home for games against the Sixers and Wizards before finishing the regular season at Boston.

"Hopefully we don't have to come down to the last game," said Kidd, who had 17 assists against the Celtics. "Hopefully we do our work and other things happen."

I know, I was just kidding :)

I think he only took 6 shots if I'm not mistaken.
