He was in the Gary Payton trade that sent Marcus Banks, Chucky Atkins and Chris Mihm to the Lakers, then it all went a bit wrong so Banks went back to Boston and the Lakers got Jones in return. Something along those lines.

I see Odom, Atkins gone next season... Odom for sure. Vlade will be gone... and hopefully we bring in a PG as u guys said and a rebounder... and wats happened to Brian Grant???

Yeah... the point is hes not even SLIGHTLY contributing... I once thought he could be an ok inside presence and fill in a gap.... as much as he could. I dont see any of it.. .Odom and Brian really screwed it up because they just dont fit in... lucky we still got Caron

He also posesses a $14 million a year contract orso that is near impossible to move. It's kind of funny, considering Danny Fortson is often looked at as having a huge contract but in comparison to Grant he's a superstar.

Well.. it means the Lakers can make a run at Yao or Amare in 2007... I don't think amare will move but we'll see what happens in Houston... maybe yao might come to Hollywood.. u never know!

God I hope not. The last thing the Lakers need is another soft C. Kobe Bryant's contract guarantees that there is always going to be an issue when it comes to player salaries, and hopefully by 2007 they'll have that position sorted anyways. Anyone but Yao Ming :shake:

i cant believe you would honestly say signing yao would be a bad thing. sure there is better fits for the lakers, but there are also alot worse ones too.best thing yao has going for him, if he did sign with LA(which wont ever happen btw) is he has always played with a star player. so he is used to it and wont bitch and cry like these current lakers are.

Well Sauru... theres always a chance that Yao might sign with the Lakers... trhere will prob be better offers around but if the Lakers can guarantee more bonuses than any other team... there is a small chance. He's the biggest marquee Free Agent I think the Lakers could get in 2007...

Of course it's not a bad thing, but I don't think he's worth the kind of money he would get. I'm not willing to see my favourite team throw $15 million a season at some big guy who has never really lived upto his hype.

i can agree with that to a point. a big point too. yeah 15 mil a year would be more than he is really worth, then again it seems everyone is overpaid these days. also its true that he never lived up to the hype, but he still remains one of the best centers in the league. like i said before, his best quality i think is his ability to blend in with a superstar player.

now i would say that there is better places to spend that money than on yao. maybe even by signing 2 players for the same total amount. sure they may not be as good overall but 2 can fill more gaps than 1. jordan always had his main man then a bunch of roleplayers. this is what kobe needs imo. he dont need another star on the team.

I was thinking... is Caron Butler a point-forward type Player? Odom is a perfect prototype guy who has the skills useful for the position but he needs the ball to play and Kobe doesnt compliment him becuase Kobe needs the ball too.. but wat bout Caron?

Butler's a finisher and defender, not a playmaker, though that's not to say he's a selfish player. Butler is a good fit alongside Kobe, with Odom out of the picture (say, for a guy who might score a bit less but is a tougher interior player) he'd be fine as their second option.

see thats what made pippen so good. i never considered him a "star". he was an all star player and rightfully so but he was not really a "star" until jordan retired. then when he came back pippen lost his "star" way. i have always thought of pippen as an all star role player. the guy did it all for the team and never took anything away from the team. thats what a roleplayer does. pippen knew his place and kobe needs someone who plays the same role.
