he has a bad team last year that didn't make it to the playoffs....now he leads them to the best record.....thats something you dont see everyday

but he has talent drooling all around Phoenix to help him out.....they've added Nash, Q-Rich and Jimmy J to last years squad and well obviously Amare has matured even more...and the Matrix has played well....Im sure theirs quite a few coaches who could have done the same thing if they had such a strong squad.
Scott Skiles is COY....the Bulls were expected to have another crappy season....but their changed...Skiles tough attitude has helped make the team work harder....Chandler and Curry have finally shown improvement...
Nate McMillan....well hes got some players to help him out....I think the key has been having a healthy Ray Allen....without him I dont think the Sonics would be doing so well....
George Karl....good job but again as someone pointed out hes inherited a good team....he definitely has turned them around no doubt....
Id go with Skiles......Hubie Brown changed a strugglin Grizzlies team last year and finally got the players to play together....and thats what Skiles has pretty much done this season.
The Van Gundy's suck

I think Scott Skiles from the Bulls has a good chance of getting it. McMillan has Ray Allen and R Lewis on his team and a great supporting cast but the Bulls before this season had who? nobody.

I think it will go to whoever the NBA feels helped his team improved the most just like last year when Hubie Brown got the award.

I'm gonna say McMillan, just because the Sonics weren't expected to one of the top teams in the west, and maintaining that for the whole season. A close second would be Skiles, who's helping the young and inexperienced Bulls to the playoffs despite a 0-9 start.

I think the true test of a good coach is how his team plays through adversity and injuries. Rick Carlisle has possibly had the most difficult season a coach has ever faced. The brawl, the suspensions, the injuries, they set the record for number of different starting lineups I believe and the numerous times they played shorthanded. Now to make things even better Tinsley is done for the season and playoffs (only played 40 total games, some games he only played for a few minutes), and Jermaine O'neal is done for the season and might not even be ready come the 1st round (only played 41 games).
Through all this, the Pacers are somehow sitting in the 6th spot in the east, have won 5 in a row and 7 of there last 8 games which includes wins over the spurs, pistons, miami, washington and cleaveland. With only 10 games left and a easy schedule that includes a game vs the wizards and the bulls who are only 1 and 2 games ahead it is not out of the question the Pacers could finish the season at the 4th spot.
Regardless if they finish 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th my pick for the Coach of the Year is Rick Carlisle.

actually he is recovering faster then expected, and could be back as soon as a few games before the playoffs, and they are almost positive he will be back for game 1 of the first round.
