First four named to Team USA

Allen, Duncan, Kidd, T-Mac Named to USAB Roster

Some good news for Team USA, with those four already on board. After the disappointing performance in the WC, the US needs players like Duncan, Kidd, T-Mac and Allen to commit to the team if they want to win. I remember Stern saying "No more Dream Teams" a couple of years back, but IMHO the rest of the world has shown that the US needs more than a decent team with less than decent chemistry to be successful in international competition.

I read Kobe is willing to be there but he hasn't signed yet. Also Malone is going to get into that list pretty soon.

Regarding the past team. That team was good enough to win, but I guess they didn't take things seriously. In 92 they fought to get the NBA players into that kind of competition cause obviously other countries were getting to a higher level than the college, then the last tournament, they just started underestimating the other teams. You can't do that when others have you as a target. I guess the manager gets the blame for that. George Karl was a big disappointment, he has been all his career, maybe one of the winningest coaches but with no tittles. I believe the USA team needs someone who takes things seriously and the players start playing with their hearts not like this is another all star show.

Larry Brown has already been named the coach. Do you think he can be the one to guide Team USA back to the top of international competition?

I don't think Malone will be selected...

As for Larry Brown, definitely a better choice than George Karl...

I doubt Iverson will be selected...

Maybe Jordan? I doubt it but I'm sure it would be discussed.

The thought crossed my mind as well, and I think it's been suggested before, Jordan being added to the team as a special inclusion as Magic was in 1992. I too doubt it will happen, as Team USA will have enough talent, and this season is serving as a Jordan farewell tour (not unlike the 1988/89 Kareem farewell tour). The NBA has enough in the way of homegrown talent to fill all roster spots on the national team.

Well yes, Larry Brown might get the team in good position but Shaq already said he will not play with Brown, so let's hope the rest can get along with him.

Regarding Malone.

Karl Malone will be visited soon by USA Basketball Representatives

karl malone? i don't think so

Sorry JJ, it's not my fault

if the USA really wants to select the best players from the nba, then Ray Allen shouldn't be selected(no offense to Ray's fans), but he is simply not among the best 5 SG

I think Ray made it because of his ability to shoot the ball.

Ray is a pure shooter, Iverson is not as accurate shooting as Ray. when I see Paul Pierce I think of a SF not a SG, even he plays as SG it is cause Boston has too many F and not SG which would make him SG if they want to give him the start. The league at this moment has just 2 pure SG besides Miller with shooting technique which would mean accuracy in hitting shots, those are Ray Allen & Allan Houston. Sorry if I don't put Kobe, T-Mac or Iverson there but that's the true, those are the best shooters at the moment.

I would love to see Iverson there... Geez, the guy is a former MVP... What else can we say? He will draw large crowds... He will surely be a fan favorite too...

They may call Boykins instead of Iverson, I dunno... :?

Jordan has already said that he doesn't want to be on the team and that it's for the young guys. Who could disagree with him? He'd be almost 42(??) by the Olympics. But who knows. The All-Star selectors choose Jordan to the East when he said he didn't want to be selected. But he probably shouldn't be o Team USA.

Ray Allen should be there. It's important that the team be versatile...and the team needs to have some pure shooters. The shorter three-point line also puts outside shooting at a premium. Also, every time I've watched Ray in All-Star and Olympic type competitions he always steps up. We need more guys who refuse to disappear when the stakes are high.

Other players I'd like to see on the team...Ben Wallace (you can't have all scorers)...Gary Payton (feasts on inferior point guards)...Reggie Miller (can never have too much clutch)...and Lebron James (to make sure the world is watching).

reggie miller???? if you have ray allen, why do u need reggie? and for a clutch, i think kobe is good enough to take the clutch in any game!!

and for lebron, well!! i am from HK, so i don't even get a chance to watch him, but i would rather pick a guy from NCAA rather than one from high school! i don't know, just too fast for lebron!!!

Ray is a nice guy. Reggie is a jerk...and Reggie will do whatever it takes to win. That's the attitude we need. I'd rather see Reggie shove somebody on the ground and take and miss a three then nobody trying to shoot when we're giving up a run. Plus you can have them both on the floor against zones...

and for a clutch, i think kobe is good enough to take the clutch in any game!!

But Kobe can get double-teamed...so you need as many people as possible who are willing to take the big shot.

and for lebron, well!! i am from HK, so i don't even get a chance to watch him, but i would rather pick a guy from NCAA rather than one from high school! i don't know, just too fast for lebron!!!

Every dream team has some guys who never get off the bench. Lebron is just there for the novelty...to add some more buzz and swagger to the team. Plus I'd like to see him play with pro players.

Lebron James? are you kidding?! Tim Barnes is better than this guy! Lol

Hehheheh...

I have bad news for those who didn't want to see Malone in that team.

Next Additions to the USA Basketball Team

Apparently the Roster so far might be as follows

T. Duncan
J. Kidd
T. McGrady
R. Allen
M. Bibby
K. Malone

if i could choose anyone from the NBA, that would be my Dream Team

Starting:
C Tim Duncan
PF Kevin Garnett
SF Tracy McGrady
SG Kobe Bryany
PG Jason Kidd

Bench:
C Brad Miller
C Ben Wallace
PF Jermaine O'Neal
SG Allen Iverson
PG Gary Payton
PF Chris Webber

and plus one player (probably a guard) from the NCAA, just like Christian in the original dream team!
i don't pick shaq is that he's already declared that he won't play for Brown!
