Didn't Lewis collapse during a scrimmage in practice? I'm pretty sure it wasn't during an NBA game.
Hakeem Olajuwon also missed time during his career due to an irregular heart beat. Professionally and personally, I hope Eddy Curry's proves to be nothing too serious.

Not to try to downplay it, because I know it can be a big deal, but I heard somewhere that it's somewhat common among athletes.

Lets hope it isnt serious!
Noone ever wants to see anyone with hart problems.

I do think it was an NBA game Andrew. It was even featured in "reputable" magazines such as Time and Newsweek.
Yep, Olajuwon did had an irregular heartbeat when he was with Toronto. It was treated, but during that time he was already way past his prime and injuries started coming down on him so it didn't matter if he did overcame that irregular heartbeat. There is still hope for Curry if he gets the proper medical attention and takes care of his body.

I remember Derrick Coleman having that too and Zeljko Rebraca (big men seem to be the trend) and they missed a chunk of the season. Rebraca missed pretty much a year, since he couldnt play he could get into shape and he was on diff medication all the time.

Well, apparently they got it half-right. Just checked out his bio on Microsoft Complete Basketball 1994/1995:
Reggie Lewis was a rising Celtics star who died of a heart ailment at age 27 while shooting baskets at a college gym in 1993. Lewis was more than a tremendous basketball player; he was also a respected team captain who inspired others by his example, and he was a community leader who drew little attention to his selfless deeds. Lewis’s funeral was attended by hundreds in Boston and galvanized the city for a time.
...
He averaged 20.8 points during the regular season. Then, in a playoff game against Charlotte, he collapsed. Admitted to a hospital, he was diagnosed with a heart irregularity and told that his career was probably over. He abruptly changed hospitals and sought another opinion. On July 27, 1993, he was shooting baskets at Brandeis University and collapsed once again. Lewis had died of a heart ailment at age 27.

I didn't know he'd collapsed during a game, but I was pretty sure the collapse right before his death occurred during a practice session.

Olajuwon also missed games earlier in his career with an irregular heartbeat in his career, around about 1990.

What the hell, Brian Grant shoved (ligthly) Gasol, gasol does a Ron Artest (tried not to get involved) and they gave Gasol 1 technical, and Grant 2!!

How does he get 2 technicals.. they didn't just throw him out, they actually gave 2 techs..

thanks for the info andrew.....i knew irregular heart beats are really that serious.......so when a friend of mine came screaming to the hallway many years ago when he saw reggie lewis collapse......my failing memory tells me that he died that day, but then again i was wrong
Mon Apr 04, 2005 4:32 pm
But you were right in a sense, as he collapsed a couple of times. I only remembered him collapsing in the gym.

Curry to undergo further testing
Not the best news. Let's hope it's simply being cautious rather than an early indication of a much more serious health problem.
