Pretty much everyone knows that Ray is a great player, but I think he's gone slightly under the radar recently. Maybe it's just me, since I haven't seen many Sonics games. But after watching last nights Sonics-Knicks game, I've brought my attention back to him. Unlike a lot of great shooters, he can also penetrate and he makes huge shots. I don't think Seattle is up there with the likes of Phoenix/San Antonio/Miami, but they are 3rd in the west, something I didn't realize. I just wanted to see your opinions on whether you think Ray is underrated or at least under the radar right now.

i like ray ray.. i don't really think he's underrated.. people just dont pay much attention to him because he doesn't really do flashy shit like a lot of superstars
Sun Mar 27, 2005 8:07 am
he doesnt make flashy plays, that's why he underrated. He almost led the 2001 Bucks to the NBA Finals, but they lost to 76ers
Sun Mar 27, 2005 8:40 am
Yeah, he's good. He just doesn't bring attention to himself like other guys do.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 8:54 am
Ray Allen's a great player, one of the best shooters and just scored 40 points in Seattle's last game...
Sun Mar 27, 2005 12:21 pm
Ray is very underrated... look at Brant and AI who I believe were in the same draft.. the three guys went their seperate ways... all of them could be famous cept Ray's modesty and game havent really made any false image for him in the media. Kobe's antics and AI's scoring have shot them to fame... theres the difference.
Allen is a great player. Not a showboat which makes his fasnbase smaller than other guys.

I like Ray Allen. Everytime I see him play he has this confident and cocky face OMG I can't stand him sometimes but he's good.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:09 pm
I don't think he's really under the radar, he's gotten some MVP considerations even, and is said to be a Top 10 wing player by all, so people know what's up.
A lot of people say he doesn't make flashy plays, but I don't know man, he can throw it down nicely, and people always like seeing three's, he's one of the more exciting players to watch.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:25 pm
Ray has a shot at MVP.....
Shaq and TD have gone missing for some games...while KG has a poor record....I think its between Ray, Amare and Nash(but he missed some games too)....
But yeh Ray is certaintly a PROFESSIONAL....hes an talented actor aswell.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 1:28 pm
All good points. I bring up the topic because after seeing that Sonics game, he showed that he can hit from outside (which everyone knows) but can also drive and pull up for the now almost nonexsistent midrange jumper. Guys like Kobe can split double teams, Josh Smith can throw down sick dunks, and AI can just plain drive to the basket, but I like to see a guy with his range and touch from midrange.

Ray Allen is prolly the most fundamentally sound player in the league...if not the most fundamentally sound Guard.
Theirs nothing hes really weak at.....I think he actually deserves a big contract considering the contracts some horrible players get these days....Its good if he stays in Seattle cause he has his own team.....if he moves onto a bigger club he'll be second fiddle....lets see what happens...he certaintly is going to be a player that gets alotta offers during the offseason.

I like the Sonics roster how it is right now, solid rebounders and Ray Allen/Rashard Lewis as their big scorers, it'd be cool if Ray Allen could go to a team that's decent next season and help put them over the top. And if I can dream... Sixers.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 4:12 pm
I don't think Ray Allen is the most fundamentally sond player in the NBA. He is good but he's not at that level.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 4:37 pm
he is going to get a MAX contract this year weather it's with seattle or not. Keyon Martin got a good one last year and his game was more questionable than Ray Allen since he was with Jason Kidd.. but so many teams looking for that good jump shooter and 3pt shooter.. ray ray can provide it plus more.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 5:08 pm
Ray Allen is a great player but yeah, his fan base isn't that big, which is surprising because he did some nice stuff in the dunk contest and in games he's shown that he can throw down some NASTY stuff...not to mention his 3 point shooting and modest ways
Sun Mar 27, 2005 5:17 pm
ray ray is an amazing guy and a great player.
more people should model there games after his

Isn't there a dude in NCAA called Allen/Alan/Allan Ray or something?
Sun Mar 27, 2005 6:49 pm
For one reason or another he's just not billed as a marquee player, at least not in the same way as a LeBron, Duncan, Shaq or Kobe. He's one of those guys that puts up nice numbers, makes the All-Star team and even plays for a top team, but just doesn't seem to get that much attention.
Sun Mar 27, 2005 9:04 pm
It's his attitude which puts him behind the marketable players of the Legaue.
Mon Mar 28, 2005 2:54 am
Isn't Ray known as a whiner?

Is he? I don't remember him ever really making a fuss over anything, maybe he was mad with the bucks when they lost to the Sixers in the conference finals? Either way I don't think people associate him with whining.
Isn't there someone in NCAA named Allen Ray?
Yes I'm pretty sure he's on Villanova (I should know since they're local), but I forget. I'm pretty sure though.

Allan Ray is on Villanova yeah, maybe he'll make the nba too someday because he's not a bad player

In my opinion I think he made a little too much fuss over his contract this season, especially ealier in the year.
I like Ray Allen's shooting form though, its beautiful. He can also dunk pretty well for a shooter, I'd like to see him drive to the hoop more often.
Mon Mar 28, 2005 7:46 am
if allan houston can make 100mill for being a jump shooter i dont see why ray allen can't

That's is just a random comment. Although the maximum contract was too much for Houston, he was an All-Star and a really good player/shooter. Nobody could've predicted that he would get injured and be useless.
