Best 4th Quarter Player THIS Season...

Postby XianeX on Tue Mar 15, 2005 5:23 am

I think it's Ben Gordon of the Chicago Bulls with Jason Richardson coming in a close 2nd. Everytime Ben Gordon enters the 4th quarter, he provides a spark and shoots lights out.

Who do you guys think it is?

But he hasn't made the same impact like previous seasons and Playoffs series. I'd say Ben Gordon...but I haven't watched too much basketball this season.

i may be bias but Kobe deserve to be mention....

Though i also like to say Wade and James doing great during crunch time..

These do wonder things in 4th quarter in consistent basis...

well to make it balance:
have you notice Melo never came back in 4th period in Suns game.

We aren't just talking about game-winning shots, we are talking about the 4th quarter.

Jason Richardson is THE 2nd best 4th quarter player in the league. Don't believe me? Here's evidence:

Paul Pierce vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
Allen Iverson vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
Kobe Bryant vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
Dwyane Wade vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
LeBron James vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
Mike Bibby vs. Winner: Jason Richardson
Jason Richardson vs. Winner: Ben Gordon

It is safe to say that Ben Gordon is the best 4th quarter player with Jason Richardson following him closely.

other than the clutch shot against the bobcats the other night kobe hasn't really been all that clutch compared to previous years

having said that however, i would still take him over jason richardson or ben gordon during crunch time anyday

A lot of people remember more of what has happened lately, but for this season, some of the more proclaimed guys haven't really been that clutch or as clutch as usual.

Jason Richardson has been fairly clutch in his shooting, but he doesn't draw any fouls down the stretch, I think he draws fouls even worse than during the normal course of the game. Overall he's terrible at drawing fouls anyways. Considering ability to draw fouls, get to the line, and convert down the stretch, many of those other guys close to him in crunch eFG% are much better overall clutch players because of that.

Also the thread says best 4th Quarter player, so is that implying the whole 4th quarter, or just the closing minutes of the game?

THIS season

Ben Gordon
Larry Hughes [he's missed some games from injury though]
Manu Ginobili
Gilbert Arenas
Michael Redd [for some reason his amazing clutch play always get's overlooked]
Dwyane Wade
Ray Allen
Lebron James
Dirk Nowitzki
Mike Bibby
Chauncey Billups
Tracy McGrady
Jason Richardson
Jalen Rose
Paul Pierce
Kobe Bryant

That's if we're talking about clutch play down the stretch. For the whole 4th quarter, Billups would likely drop, but most of those other guys have been good 4th quarter players and good clutch players.

Kobe and Pierce haven't been too clutch this season, but have been very good in terms of overall 4th quarter scoring this season.

good thread...

i'd say i'm being biased but since he is leading the lead double digit 4th quarter scoring, i put ben gordon at 1 (Y)

mcgrady, pierce, bryant are regulars and i think you'd have to add arenas, bibby, and wade

a lot of guards

Gordon has to be the best crunch time at the moment , we can't forget about steve francis , he has hit some excellent shots down the stretch .

In my mind he IS rookie of the year (with Okafor a close second). It is essentially down to those two and Gordon gets my vote.

As for 4th quarter player of the year-
Down to Gordon, Wade, Richardson, TMac and Kobe.

More recently Yao has been having some stellar 4th quarters (14 points, 10 boards v Phoenix for example). He is shooting something like over 60% in the fourth (for the season)!

I think Yao in the past few games has been shooting over 60% overall, not just in the 4th.

I would say Dwyane Wade. Whenever I see him play he makes big shots, and he just made a game winner against the Knicks.

I would go with Ben, he is averaging the most points in the Fourth out of anyone.

Honorable Mention: Mike "Asshole" Bibby. Beat my Clips with that last second shot and ruined Rick Brunsons biggest play of his career.

Easily Ben Gordon.

He leads the league in scoring in the 4th quarter and I think he also leads the league in scoring 10+ points in the 4th.

Wade is close, obviously Bibby has made a name for himself with his two clutch shots.

Jalen Rose is also a good 4th Quarter player, he scores most of his ponints in the second half.

Though Jalen is the only guy on that list that can only make clutch offensive plays, and does nothing defensively.
