Fred Hoiberg: Best Shooter Ever?

Postby cyanide on Fri Mar 11, 2005 1:06 pm

Did anyone see that huge feature on the front page of the ESPN: NBA website? It shows a picture of Fred Hoiberg, and with huge letters: "Best Shooter... Ever" and a subcaption that says, "Insider John Hollinger says Fred Hoiberg shoots the rock like no one before him"

He might be having a good season, but best shooter ever? I can imagine Steve Kerr having that title if I think for a couple seconds, because that guy can hit a shot anywhere.

Edit: I can't believe I forgot about Bird. Now that guy is definitely one of the best. As for Reggie, I'd say he's in the top 5.

reggie does deserve the title , but personally to me he shares it with steve kerr and larry bird . fred hoiberg is an excellent shooter but he is unkown by alot of peoplel. i think aafter regie retires he will be one of top 3 active shooters . just my opinion.

well personally, this may sound funny, but i thought Michael Jordan always had the best mid-range shot.

but best all round shooter has gotta be reggie miller.
Steve Kerr and Larry Bird up there also, and Rick Barry along with Brent Barry ive always thought was a great shooter.

hoiberg is probably one the best spot-up shooters, along with kerr
reggie and bird beat them by creating their own shots

Fred Hoiberg owns. A lot of people think he is only a shooter, but he is a great defender too. He has quick hands, and he doesn't turn it over. Earlier this year he went like 300+ minutes without turning it over once. But he can shoot it like it's nobodys buisness.

He asked to be in the Three-Point contest but they said he didn't shoot enough threes to be in it. What a stupid rule, because Hoiberg would have won it! (Y) (Y)

John Hollinger's prolly tasting Hoiberg's two rocks too or visa versa.....thats the only reason why hes saying F-Ho is the best shooter.

why the hell was that supersized on ESPN's NBA section? that's just plain terrible. reggie deserves it. notice how all of the great shooters have really ugly looking shooting form, but PURE GOOD RESULTS (once left the hand): reggie, bird, kerr..

ray allen- owner of the sweetest lookin' J.. 8-)

EDIT: Don't forget Peja's clamshell lookin' stroke

Hoiberg is a great shooter but as has already been mentioned, there's a lot of players, stars and role players alike, who could claim that honour.

didnt ESPN say Peja was the greatest shooter ever last season....I can remember hearing endless commentary by Bill Walton, Tom Tolbert n that horrible ESPN crew on the topic where they think Peja is the best shooter prolly ever....so now one season passes n Fred Hoiberg gets the tag line....next season whose gonna get it......Luke Walton maybe

it's gotta be Reggie....he shot that ball great in clutch and that's what seals the deal. Not only that but the D was focused on him and knew what was coming.

yeh Reggie used to hit some nice clutch shots, but in alot of those games he was shooting 1-8 or something from downtown. :?

Reggie's shooting is overrated.

Larry Bird is the best shooter imo. Imo no one can beat the legend.

Mark Price's the best shooter ever...when he played for Cavs...
wow.. He's incredible.. shooting 3's..

but then.. the shooters in the 90's.. btw 90-93.. they're like 80% accurate...
John Paxson, Mark Price, Miller, Mullin, etc..

The article says Fred is the bets percentage shooter only cause hes gonna get percentages of 50-50-90... if he can get his 88% at the stripe up to 90. And if he maintains his 54% 3pt he'll break Steve Kerr's record...

dumbest statement i have EVER read.

reggie's career average from the 3point line is 40 %. how can you possibly say that he is not the best shooter of all-time considering how many threes he has taken??

if kerr or price or anyone else mentioned (yes all great shooters) had taken the amount of threes as reggie has, their averages would be around the low 30s.

plus reggie is getting very close to 25,000 points, and he cant do anything but shoot 3s!

no pure shooter will ever come close to getting as many points as reggie. he is a very unique player, and the league will never have anyone like him again.

that is the end of my completly unbiased argument

he was sooo good n accurate like in 1990-96 i suppose...
when everyshot would go down..
like in that playoff vs NYK.. in 92 or 93...
three straight 3 pts in how many seconds?
the last attempt was.. after pushin.. lefthander anthony from behind.. then stole the ball and shot..

some of these "great shooters" crack under pressure. they can't seem to get themselves open and hit big time shots night in ans night out. except for one guy....."miller time!" :|

i agree that clutch shooting is huge but this only seperates him from the likes of fred and steve, when compared to larry he takes a back seat imo. i dont think anyone ever was more clutch than him.
