What the hell is this guy still doing on earth? Doesnt he have HIV? Doesnt HIV kill you?

No, not neccessarily (I can't spell that)...

AiDS is what kils you..HIV is the first step to AIDS, but being a million dollar man the man has top of the line treatment for it so he can continue to live longer.

HIV is essentially the AIDS virus in a dormant state. Usually after a while (could be months or years) the HIV virus breaks out of dormancy (from some sort of shock to the main HIV infected cells) and starts replicating at an abnormal uncontrolled rate. This is now called aids. Magic has top of the line drugs which he can afford to help keep the HIV virus in dormancy. (Just wrote a biochemistry exam in this).

Im not to sure of this but isn't being in great shape help to keep it in dormancy as well and he has been keeping in good shape. He probly cant keep the virus in dormancy forever, I think its just a matter of time before he actually gets aids but I'm not positive on that either.

i hope he can live a good while longer, i'd hate to seem him go anytime soon.

This might be one of the dumbest things ive ever seen. If they had a cure for cancer (or aids) why would they withhold such information?

A cure takes the virus away. Magic Johnson still has it, and you can bet that he suffers a ton from it -- we just don't see during All-Star Weekend or stuff. It's unbelievable how he's been able to maintain himself as an ambassador to the NBA while suffering from HIV at the same time.

On a political note, AIDS is terrible -- especially AIDS in Africa. The world doesn't do enough to aid it. If the money put into the War on Iraq was put into the AIDS epidemic, it would be an incredibly different story. Bono pwns George W. Bush.

I've never heard that story (though it wouldn't have been in a bar near Staples Center, since that arena wasn't around in the late 80s/early 90s), but he did contract HIV from an affair he had around that time.

yeah he retired cause many stars said they would just sit out the games he was involved in so he retired instead of causing a big scene. when he made his comeback i remember he started bleeding in one of the games and most people were afraid to continue playing.

as for how he got it, i dont know exaclty who or how but i have heard stories about how he was having 3 women a night while on the road so it was bound to happen. maybe that is a false rumor, maybe not, either way it sucks imo cause magic was/is the man.
