i think that if we argue yao is only in there because hes chiniese, its the same argument that grant hill's only in there because he was injured and he came back from an injury.

Im in China as we speak now and all I gotta say is Houston's games are trasmitted way too much on TV. Last night game ( which i forgot who they played against) and the last game against the Spurs.

Yao looks weak to me and has very little muscle definition. He has average to above average floor speed and has no hustle in getting back in defense. I'm really dissapointed right now haha i'm in so much pain hehehe j/k. But really yaho needs to pump some iron and adapt a more aggresive mentality in order to succeed in the NBA.

Thanks.
R

ps. and yes the only reason yao was part of the All star game was because hes chinese and the chinese population which is 1/6 of the world population voted for their national hero.

not quite.

grant hill > yao ming.

grant hill has been playing well anyway. it's not like he's only averaging 10ppg.

Not so sure about that. If everybody in China voted for Yao, he would have at least 1.000.000.000 votes

first off....dont look too much into stats. For example you can get more rebounds per game than another player but it doesnt mean that your a better rebounder. Especially if the other player has to face Wallace, Duncan & Kg on the boards and you face Kenny Thomas, Juwon Howard and Cliff Robinson.

Secondly, Yao plays like the bitch that he is and shouldnt have even been at the All-Star game.

Sigh, rebounds per game isn't a real stat to measure rebounding skills... then again stats are irrelevant and Yao's a trash player and Brad Miller's Jesus because he plays alongside Webber! OMG!!

Nothing's been proven. Amare should have been the starting centre in the west, not Yao. Yao is a hyped up version of Rik Smits. Amare is a more powerful version of Shawn Kemp. You tell me who's better.

It's not who's better, Amare or Yao. It's about that Amare was listed as F, and the starting 5 it's about votes and hype.

I'm surprised nobody's bitching about Grant Hill making the East starting 5 and not Wade.

If Lebron was listed as a forward, wade would have been in the starting lineup... the same way that if amare was listed as centre, he should have been the centre.

However, isnt it so weird that people arent bitching about Grant Hill in a Yao Ming thread. Amazing.

seeing as the nba wants the fans to vote for who they want to see more, then yao should have started. people clearly wanted to see him there so thats why he started. personally i think voteing by fans in all sports should be banned as more fans dont know jack about the game. then you get the guys who vote for who they like or vote for someone just cause they know thier name(hello vince carter) or maybe just cause they are from thier team. fan voteing sucks.

Hi check this out http://www.nba.com/fedex/eng/yao.html

I can't believe all these great legends praising Yao because I don't see a superstar within him but who knows maybe next year?

Yao's inconsistent... if he's consistent, he would'd already win the rookie of the yr.

if he's European.. i bet he would be better.. and more active like paul gasol.. dirk notwizky(?), etc etc... who's tall .. n they're good at shooting..
notice the chinese can get into nba is because of their size n height..
wang zhihi 7'1 C., mengke bateer.. 6'10 C.. and ..Yao ming.. 7'5 C (when enterin nba)

no chinese guard is able to go into NBA...

you guys do realize that yao is still young right? i think that the lebrons and melos of the world have spoiled everyone by thinking players are ready right away for the nba. its really rare for a highschool player, or even a college player, to come out and dominate right out the gate. yeah lebron is playing amazing, yeah amare has been great since he hit the nba and carmelo is playing solid even if he gets bashed on alot but what about the kobe's of the world or the garnetts. how amazing were they in thier first 3 seasons. anyone wanna go dig up thier stats and compare them? granted kobe was not the go to guy that yao was made to be but he was clearly not ready to be it. so right now yao probably is not ready to be the main force on offense for the rockets but give the guy a break, he is still young.

yao entered the league when he was 22. kobe and KG were 18. yao played pro basketball in china while kobe and kg were playing high school ball. that's a huge difference there.

hope yao doesn't have the same fate as..... simpson? that 7'4 C .. paired up with Olajuwon.. the twin towers..
maybe Yao could never be as active as simpson.. but injuries ended simpson's chance of winnin the title..
how sadd..
lets hope n see.. how much better can he get..
ps. i dun hate him.. i just dun see much potential on him as much as other ppl do.

Do y'all think those who vote for Yao also vote for Ichiro Suzuki just because they're both Asian?

I myself am asian too and yes I did vote for Yao these years, not because he's asian but because his game is a lot more fun to watch compared to that of Shaq. I enjoy watching versatile players like Pippen and Lebron so Yao, who can post in the paint, shoot the 3s, pass the ball well naturally gets my vote.

Some ppl present the stats of Yao, Shaq and Brad Miller and argue who should start the western conference. well it's always easy to pick one statistically but who else other than analysts and statisticians really gives a damn about the stats? I like Yao's style of play better than shaq's last two years and everyone else's in the western conference this year, period.

Like someone up there said, it's all about popularity. and i think that's the reason why the all-star ballot is there for the fans.

american ball is also a huge difference from international ball. want a good example of this? just look at tapes from the last olympics.

I get to see so many Rocket's game here in China and sometimes he plays real good and sometimes he doesnt just like everybody in the nba...I guess he just need to work on being more consistent and this is done by hitting the gym hard and harder... anyways this is what I have noticed:

- His open court speed is real slow
- His defense is not as good as might've expected it to be.
- I dont see no enthusiam or love for the game

Thats what I have noticed so far for the past 2-4 weeks.

Thanks.
