I meant to comment on this before. I know exactly what you mean - there's something about the presentation today that just doesn't feel the same. Some of the commentators (especially those on ESPN) just don't seem to have the same character as the guys who were around in the 90s, though it's nice to hear Bill Walton and Steve "Snapper" Jones every now and again.

I mostly heard Marv Albert and Dick Stockton but in '98 it was Bob Costas. Whatever happened to that guy? Anyways, my first post here.
EDIT: I last saw him on HBO Boxing.

I desperatley wish I could have been born early enough to remember the nineties. Does anyone have a good place to get videos of Jordan, Magic etc.?

yeah... but im thinkin of somethin else.

and goat, i dont think that what all of us are saying is that those guys were the best players ever, i think what we (or at least i miss) is the atmosphere of those days.

watching video of mike and hakeem and all of them would be awesome to watch, but you wont quite understand what we mean when we talk about how much we loved 90s basketball.

yeah...

like the bulls-knicks rivalry was the best ever.

i dont think anybody can argue that really. it might just be cuz i grew up in chicago, and even though i was a pacers fan, nothing beat a bulls knicks game on sunday afternoon on nbc.

i think many of us are just going through a change since this is the first time we've seen a era of ball gone ( at least for me.) I 'm sure some people who use to watch basketball in the 80s and is in their upper 20s low 30s miss the 80s with magic, bird, and all those other great players in that decade.
but the 90s have 1 person no other era had- Jordan

Maybe in 2015 or 25 some guys (ours sons  ) will talk about how great Darko, LeBron, Tim, Kevin, and all the guys were during the 00's. Maybe they'll say that this was the golden time of the League, how T-Mac and Kobe got 6 championships together, Emeka giving Jermaine a lesson in the post, etc... :P

That's a very good point, previous generations no doubt experienced the same thing when the likes of Cousy, Russell, Chamberlain, Robertson, West, Baylor, Reed, Havlicek and so on called it a career. I think it's a sign of age these days when you can remember benchwarmers from the 90s.

hmm...

i think they'll be talking about how amazing it was when the pacers turned around their season in 05 to win the title and send reggie out with a ring, and then going on to shock the world by winning 5 straight titles and breaking the bulls 72-10 regular season record.

i might agree with you about this if you mean for the 90's, if you actually mean all time i have to disagree big time and say that the best rivaly was easily the celtics and lakers. i will mention the bird and magic one as i watched those games, was not around for the wilt and russell match ups.

on the other hand the detroit and chicago games were damn good also though those were more late 80's early 90's. as for the knicks and bulls i will never forget the time charles smith had a chance to put the bulls away in the playoffs but blew 5 layups in a row. man did that make me happy.

One thing I don't miss about the 90's were the jerseys with big logos on them that all the teams were wearing, like the Houston Rockets or those teal Detroit Pistons or the shit/red Sonics jump-offs:doh:

Or the Spurs Fiesta Colored Arena Floor that completely didn't match the unis. And can't forget the Fiesta colored All-Star Uniforms from 94 or 95.
No Phil, No Shaq, No Mailman, No Rudy, No Chemistry or Cohesivness....
AND?!!?

In a way I agree Damien, but I liked the unique designs of the jerseys and the variation of the colours. I don't really like some of the plain, college-style designs that a lot of teams are adopting. Memphis and Utah's jerseys are similar not only in design but also in colour, while the Grizz's new logo is very similar to the Timberwolves. On the other hand, I like the change Detroit made a few years ago to the "old school with a new flavour" jerseys.

I guess this is a good place to mention NBA Action. During the 90s, it was one of my favourite shows, and was a good source of news and info before I got the Internet in August 1997. I still enjoy watching it and do so every week, but it just doesn't seem the same.

First of all, the coverage is a little more limited and much less varied than it was even a few years ago. Usually only one team from each conference is profiled each week, whereas back in the day they'd take a look at two or three hot teams in each conference. They've also cut down on the news, an occurrence I ascribe to the greater number of fans with Internet access.

And perhaps most importantly, Jim Fagan has been replaced by Spero Dedes. No disrespect intended towards Mr Dedes, but he just doesn't bring the same excitement or passion that Jim Fagan did. Another ghost of the 90s...

i actually loved the 90s designs, maybe just because they are attached with the decade, but i loved the spurs courts, the rockets jerseys were awesome, i loved the colors, and i really really really liked those pacers jerseys with the triangle things on the side, those were awesome

I liked the ASG when players wore their own team jerseys. But I can't complain, I like the jerseys that they're going to use this year (Y)

I don't like those as much as I do the one with the stripe across the chest and it says Pacers in the stripe (don't know what year).
