The problem is that everyone.. including myself most of the time... look at Yao's third and second year- and see that he hasn't improved much in his stats. Many reasons surround this and as I said- Yao doesn't have the sort of aggresive nature everyone wants him to have. But what about this, Dirk Nowitzki is 7 foot tall and he used to not bang it up down low... he didnt get as much criticism as Yao is getting now...

But Dirk is a much better shooter and driver both then and now then Yao will ever be. And he wasn't being voted as the starting center on the all-star team over guys like Shaq when he was at that stage of his career.

being voted onto the all star team has nothing at all to do with skill. its pure popularity. think VC and grant hill belong there this year? hell no. yao ming is a popular player, damn popular, which also adds to people hateing him. more people that like you the more people that hate you. dont blame the man for not being what the media wanted him to be. if anything blame the media that started a hype monster so damn big that no one could have tamed it.

i agree the media has hyped him up too much, but you can't take away the fact that he is the most skilled big man to come in the league since the olajuwan, abdul jabbar, walton, mchale, shaq came along. he just doesn't have the mindset of the greats and you can't teach that. none of those guys would have put up with being posterized so many times but yao just seems used to it :P. it would help if someone whooped his ass off the court maybe then he could obtain a little temper. god knows he needs it

What I was saying is that people weren't hating on Dirk because no one thought he was really good. However, people do hate on Yao because so many people do think he's really good.

Or hes been expected to be better than he really is.. only because hes tall and has a good jumper for a guy his size. It's ridiculous cause we are all expecting 25, 10 from him... Even if he got 20 and 10- we'd be ragging him!

Hes got potential... no doubt. But maybe we should give him a break?
