Reggie Miller Set To Retire At Season's End

Postby SkipToMy_Lou on Fri Feb 11, 2005 7:49 pm

Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers will retire at the end of this season, his sister, Cheryl, reported Thursday night on TNT.

``Over the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of speculation on whether or not this will be Reggie Miller's last season,'' Miller said. ``Yesterday I spoke to Reggie, and after 18 seasons with the Indiana Pacers, this will definitely be his last season.''

Miller, 39, has been one of the league's best outside shooters during a career that has included five All-Star appearances, 131 playoff games and a trip to the NBA Finals.

``Reggie said that it has been a great run, feels very positive with where the organization and the team is headed,'' Miller said during TNT's broadcast of the Lakers-Pistons game. ``He said the one thing that he can look back on in his career, barring the ugly situation in November here at Detroit; he says he has a lot of great memories.''

Two weeks ago, Miller angrily shot down another TNT reporter's story that Miller had informed his teammates of his plans to retire. Miller said if he were to make such an announcement, he'd break the news through his older sister.

Miller is averaging 11.9 points as the starting shooting guard for the Pacers, whose next game is Friday night at home against Houston.

He holds NBA records for most 3-pointers made (2,505) and attempted (6,321) and is the all-time leading scorer in Pacers history with 24,685 points.

``Reggie said, 'It's has been a great run, a lot of wonderful memories,' and the one thing he can really be proud of is that he finished his career with one team -- something we don't see a lot of in sports today,'' Cheryl Miller said.

I'm gonna miss him. He was my first ever favorite player years back, and I remember when I first started playing basketball, I tried shooting like him, and that didn't work too well, so I eventually developed my own shooting that resembles Allan Houston's. Anyway, one of the biggest trash talkers and a big threat in the playoffs, I'll be seeing him in the well deserved Hall of Fame someday. Kudos to Reggie, overcoming all obstacles to being a great professional and player.

I hate him anyway (mostly because of the fights against my favourites: MJ and Kobe). That's why I don't give a **** about him.

That sucks, this guy is awesome. His three point shooting saved the Pacers so often it's not even funny anymore.

I was actually scared of this man during the Lakers' 2000 run. He just kept dropping trey's from all over the place. Him & Croshere, damn Croshere.

Reggie is overrated. Sorry guys, just dont like him and his "leme push these players outa my way and get two calls in my favor-amazing 8 points in 9 seconds"

Reggie miller is HOF, but people overrate him about that crazy scoring thing. (N)

dont say its one of the worst days of your life.

the season is not over yet. reggie still has 32 games to play, and i dont think he wants people to feel like this is the worst day of their lives.

ive been a pacer fan for 15 years, and ive met reggie 5 times.

hes the type of guy that wants his last game to be filled with people booing him off the court, i guarentee it.
