Suns/Boston Trade Finalized

The Phoenix Suns continued to bolster its bench by acquiring veteran forward Walter McCarty and an undisclosed amount of cash from the Boston Celtics today in exchange for the 2005 conditional second-round pick the Suns acquired last month from Golden State in a trade for forward Zarko Cabarkapa.

The versatile 6-10, 230-pound forward, who spent the last seven-and-a half seasons with Boston after playing his rookie season with the New York Knicks in 1996-97, owns career averages of 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 529 games (107 starts). He has a career three-point field goal percentage of .349 and has 421 three-point field goals and 1,208 three-point field goals attempted.

“In Walter McCarty we are adding another versatile and experienced veteran player that has developed a reputation as a great teammate,” said Suns President and General Manager Bryan Colangelo. “Walter is long and active, and should provide a real spark off the bench.”

In 30 career postseason games (12 starts), McCarty has averaged 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds on .478 shooting from the field. In the 2003 Playoffs, he averaged a career-best 9.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in 35.2 minutes and made starts in eight of the Celtics’ 10 playoff games.

jeez boston just seems to love those draft picks but hey danny ainge has a good eye for scouting i think. look at last years draft for them. walter adds depth to a very weak phoenix bench. good for both teams but a little better right now for phoenix.

damn it all. boston has now officially traded away all thier energy players. we had a good group of guys who even when they hardly did anything they still brought the energy to the game that made others play at a higher level. i still think trading tony battie was a huge mistake for this very reason.

Boston seems to be keen on the future with draft picks and young guys.... maybe their dynasty will return in 5 years...

i just want to point out that the celtics could have already been one of the best teams in the nba but they constantly have bad drafts. last year i consider a good year for draft picks but every year before that has been a waste. i hope they can get back on the right track, though with the sox and pats(god i love the pats) playing so well no one is really paying much attention to the celts right now.

Watch for the Suns to jack up even more threes than ever before. If it works, then they're damn deadly. If somehow Q-Rich throws a hissy fit over other players shooting more combined threes than he is individually, then we have a problem. But I think the Suns will be fine :)

Most of the players in the League think they're good. And playing with the Suns (and Nash) has really helped him. He now stands in the corner and shoots 3's (Y)

They thought it was a goaltending. It was really close. Amare recet the ball just in the point when the ball couldn't get any higher.

suns vs kings last night was one of the great games in the regular season all of the 4th quarter they kept going back and forth. when one team took a 4pt lead the other team would make a run. most exciting games this season so far. (Y) yeah it looked like goaltending but the ball was still going up when amare blocked it into the 7th row. (Y)

Whoever thought that a thread about a WALTA McCarty trade would reach double-digit replies? Really you guys, he's been lucky to stay in this league. Meet your new 12th man, Phoenix fans.
