2005 NBA All-Star Reserves

Postby fgrep15 on Wed Feb 09, 2005 4:03 am

NEW YORK (AP) -- Miami's Dwyane Wade and San Antonio's Manu Ginobili were among six players picked as NBA All-Stars for the first time when reserves were announced Tuesday.

Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison of the Washington Wizards, Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns, and Rashard Lewis of the Seattle SuperSonics also gained their first All-Star selections in balloting by the NBA's 30 head coaches.

Cleveland's LeBron James, chosen as an Eastern Conference starter last week, is a first-time All-Star, too.

The East's other reserves are centers Zydrunas Ilgauskas of Cleveland and Ben Wallace of Detroit, forward Jermaine O'Neal of Indiana, and guard Paul Pierce of Boston.

Steve Nash and Shawn Marion of Phoenix, Ray Allen of Seattle, and Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas were selected for the Western Conference team.

Nice to see The Matrix back. And Ginobili will play max. 5 minutes... I mean, Matrix, Allen, Kobe and T-Mac come first...

The most noticable snubs would be Elton Brand and Chris Webber would could've made it in the West, but Seattle has a Top 3 record in the West, and you gotta give Rashard props I guess.

In the East, Francis didn't make it, and you'll probably hear the Francis crew coming out to complain, but the 2 Guards picked were Arenas and Wade who are both playing better and their teams have better records.

Paul Pierce basically knocked Francis out because the last 2 spots were between Pierce, Ilguaskas and Francis, and with Cleveland having a top eastern record, Ilguaskas was in, and Francis' snub came from Pierce.

I think a Kings player should've made the team though, Miller, Webber or Bibby should've made it in place of Rashard Lewis. Though the Sonics are doing good, they aren't that far above the Kings, and 2 Sonics and no King is interesting.

Stevie Franchise deserved to be on the East squad. I woulda put him instead of Z.

And as a Kings fan, I think it sucks they won't be represented at all. Bibby's never been an All-Star.

Popovich is coaching, he won't let hiw own player play just 5 mins

Damn, too bad Hamilton missed out. I'd have Hamilton & Franchise over Ilg & PP34 but i guess that'd be too many guards. Oh well

Kinda surprised C Webb didnt make it, or Brand. At least theres no unworthy selections out West

Yeah, West was better selected.

And Pop might not play Ginobli and Duncan much. He's the kind of coach that'd want to save them for the Playoffs. Look at the minutes he gives them during the regular season.

I doubt one game will affect them for the playoffs.

It's gonna be weird....
No Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, Jason Kidd
No Kings (Miller, Peja, Webber)
Three Suns (Nash, Amare, Matrix)
and just one Maverick

Marbury does not deserve to be there. The Knicks have a horrible record.
Kidd was hurt too much.
Francis, could of but big deal.

Peja numbers are down and he is hurt
Webber close but hurt
Miller, should have made it.

Three Suns, deserve it.
(Just one Maverick) who else but Dirk?

Pierce definately wasn't an All-Star this season over Francis, but I guess it was because they already have 2 PG/SG's in Wade and Arenas. Ilguaskas made it because of his team's record, and also because they probably wanted to add more big men.

And I wouldn't be suprised, because he's LeBron James teammate. New Posterboy of the NBA.

They should have gone with the choices the TNT bunch selected last Thursday on NBA on TNT.

Props to Manu, if I ever see his (all star) jersey in a store...
My guess is, he'll play more than 5 minutes because he's just as spectacular as other guards in the West.

Marbury isn't all star worthy, but that's BS

Really he isn't though, their's other guards: Arenas, Wade, Francis, Pierce, who have out played him or matched his play, and all their teams have better records. Not to mention Larry Hughes who's injured was also outplaying him.

Marbury hasn't stepped up to help his team. It's sad that he can't even try to be the leader of the Knicks.

i'm pretty happy with the east's lineup.. no question, they all deserve to get there but if i was picking the lineups i'd replace:

EAST:

steve francis for paul pierce
j. kidd for big z ( i know he has missed quite a bit of games but he's been on a roll the last little while -- similar to ray allen last season )

WEST:

lineups are fair imo, im pretty happy with it.. i'm just kinda upset mike bibby didn't make it but then again i wouldn't take anyone out to put him in it. actually i'd take out rashard lewis and put bibby in

edit: this is gonna be a close one this year i think, there won't be necessarily that much of a size advantage considering the east has a couple of big men.. i still stand by my predictions, grant hill for all star game mvp

Alot of analysis were saying that Pau Gasol could've made it because he does has pretty good numbers. The main thing is that he got injured right around the time they started to pick and the Grizzlies were still winning without him which made it seem like he wasn't that important. Well maybe next year

not bad not bad...

im not surprised jamall tinsley is not here, but im dissapointed. Although i must be honest, if i were a non pacer biased coach i would not have voted for him.

However, i would have voted for steve francis.

i would say stevie and brad miller are the 2 who most deserved to make it but didnt. of course its like i said in the other thread, you can go on forever about who made it and didnt deserve it or who didnt make it and should be there. for instance, i see someone has said that pierce didnt deserve to be an all star. i say he deserves it more than both vince carter and grant hill. those 2 are there simply on popularity. so long as the fans can vote players who truely deserve to make the team will be left out for the popular picks.

dont u find it ironic how Franchise was in on popularity last year.. now he somehow deserves to be on the team.. they cut him!!! but i guess the competition is deep... he can be proud of being part of a deep field of guards in the league this year!

EDIT:
Steve Francis, denied an invitation to his fourth All-Star Game earlier in the day, had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists before fouling out with 1:07 remaining.

They should cut Yao  IMO Gasol, Brand, Miller & C Webb should be on the team ahead of him.

Too bad for Larry Hughes aye, he probably would have taken Arenas' spot.
