What happened to Ricky Davis?

Postby 8-Hype on Thu Feb 03, 2005 2:38 pm

Man, why is Tricky playing from the bench? He's for sure better than Tony Allen and Jiri Welsch. But in yesterday's game he only played 8 minutes. WTF? In his last game he came off the bench and was leading scorer of the game (Tony Allen, a starter, had thrilling 2 points in 27 minutes). He started the first 7 games of the season, but why not now?

easy, coach said that he likes ricky off the bench for his energy and it helps the bench. sorry but don have an article link to prove but if i remember correctly, the team likes jiri welsch. or at least wants him to succeed-ish.

when jiri was coming off the bench, he was terrible. couldnt do anything right. they experimented him starting and it worked. or at least was a lot more effective. and ricky D helps the bench scoring. his energy is very high so it really helps the bench players' morale (i think). no matter what, he's capable of scoring a load of points.

its similar to tyson chandler case. he's better than AD and othella harrington overall, but they want his energy off the bench. AD and othella are/would be shitty off the bench. age maybe? sure, but its probably because tyson chandler (and eddy curry) are in their contract years.. :x

I don't understandthe 8 minutes, but he is doing well off the bench. Plus, Jiri Welsch is garbage and should be traded or something

The Boston Celtics have been vocal about liking Mr Davis to be the leader of the second unit and feel Jiri contributes more as a starter than benchwarmer... and Ricky is reliable...

8 minutes is baffling i agree... maybe there was a problem? Maybe the celtics were doing fine and didnt wanna break their rhythm i dunno! Hes a great talent and obviously he can play off the bench so i say keep him there....

A player doesn't have to start to contribute to a team.

Maybe it was a matter of lineup on the floor at the time, which didn't allow ricky to be subbed in.

the game wasnt close at all, the starters were out by the 4th quarter. it was an easy night for tricky ricky i guess. good enough to start, great off the bench, too much of a blow out for him to be in their and risk a dumb injury. it was just a strange circumstance i guess. Great game for PP by the way trip dub by the end of the 3rd is impressive!

It's so that they have sufficient scoring off the bench, many coaches don't want to just put all their scorers in the starting lineup, and then have a huge dropoff when they go to their bench.

Nope, they only look at boxscores, but you have to admit, the Celtics are too boring too watch (besides some little exceptions like Tony Allen)

He's a great number one scorer for a second string. He didn't really bring energy to the game when he started, because Pierce and Payton take control of the starting unit.

Really, he's the perfect sixth man -- no franchise player, and you can count on it that he'll be in the game if it's close and there's only five minutes left. Not Jiri Welsch, who actually just lost his starting job.

Tony Allen is great for the Celts starting lineup. He knows his role -- the energetic defensive stopper. Some of the plays he makes are unbelievable. He's always looking to do whatever he can to help the team, even if it means risking potential injury.

Back to Davis, he's off the Naughty List. Very few players would handle a benching like he did -- in a class-act manner. And Shiva's right -- Davis had a flu, and was sent home by Doc Rivers. People need to stop checking the box scores and actually watch the games before putting such judgement.

I gained soo much respect for Ricky Davis after I watched him sign atographs for people before the Clippers game I went to... and then on the court, after Paul Pierce fouled out, he and Gary Payton took over and brought the Celts back from down 10 to push it to Double OT and eventually the W.

i think he can be either/or
he can help Paul Piece in scoring if he starts because no one else is really a scorer or he can help them out when he comes off the bench like Wally Sczerbiak is doing which will give them a good boost (Y)

I ate him. Crapped him out my ass. Now he's on the bench, where shit like him belongs.
