BREAKING NEWS FROM THE NBA!
It has just been announced by NBA commisioner David Stern that the NBA regular season will be cut to just 29 games from this season onwards. David has told the media that the change is due to excess demands made by players and coaches alike, saying they want more time to themselves and to spend with their families. "We at the NBA felt that the players in the league needed more time for privacy and that they should be given more time between games" Stern said at a press confrence. Under this new system, each of the 30 NBA teams will only play eachother once, so each and every game is now expected to be played with even more intensity.
With the news out and the new faces at Orlando just settling in, the players were quite shocked after hearing the news.
" I guess we will just have to go out and give 110% every game" said veteran Grant Hill, who is hoping to have a full season in 04-05, after having been hampered with injuries for the past years.
After having some time to adjust to this new schedule, The Orlando MAgic have finally released their roster to the start of the 2005 NBA season:
Starters
C. K.Cato
PF. D.Howard
SF.G.Hill
SG.D.Christie
PG.S.Francis
Bench
PG.J.Nelson
SF.H.Turkoglu
C.T.Battie
SF.S.Augmon
SG.D.Stevenson
PG.K.Bogans
C.A.DeClerq
PF.P.Garrity
C.M.Kasen
PF.B.Hunter
Despite just naming the roster, the magic were not shy about openly sharing their intrests in players around the league, which included Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks and Jason Kapono of the Charlotte Bobcats.

HOME VS
Game 1: Home vs Charlotte
Well finally the first game of the season has come around, and the Magic have the interesting task of playing the new expansion team, the Charlotte Bobcats. Now many people didn't really know what to expect with a new expansion team, so the magic just had to go out and play their game.
A matchup that was attraction a lot of attension was the PF battle between the top 2 picks of last years draft, Dwight Howard and Emeka Okafor.
" I have alot of respect for Emeka" said Dwight Howard in his pre game interview. " He was a great player through his college years and i will just have to go and play my game that rewarded me with being 1st overall"
Well as in turned out, the bobcats proved to be a good challenge early on against the new Magic squad, leading 20-16 at qtr time. However the magic out-scored the bobcats 23-10 in the 2nd qtr and went into half time with a 9 point lead. from then on the Magic were never really challenged and the magic ran away with a 93-64 win.

Thx for the tips pol. Im stll unsure about Howard. I wanna give him a bit of a go and see what he can do. As for Nelson i totally agree, he can be very dominant and will get some good minutes off the bench.

EARLY TRADE FOR MAGIC AND HAWKS
30/10/04: An early season trade that occured between the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic has seen young rookie Josh Smith sent to Orlando in exchange for Stacey Augmon and Keith Bogans. The Magic were the believed to be the team that proposed the deal, saying afterwards that they wanted Smith to boost their flexibility at the power and small forward positions. After the deal was announced, Smith seemed to be happy that he found a new home.
"I am happy that i am now going to be playing for the magic because I think that they have alot of potential and I would just love to be apart of that. Don't get me wrong, I liked being in Atlanta, but a deal is a deal."

HOME VS
6/11/04 Game 2: Away vs Cleveland
Well after a decent win over the Bobcats, and a trade only days earlier, The magic were feeling confident that they could play well against they cavs and come up with a win.
Things didn't start well however, and in the first few minutes the magic were down by 6. But thanks to some good defence from Doug Christie and Kelvin Cato, Orlando was able to recover and be up by 6 at qtr time. In the 2nd qtr, the team started off with a bang, and Jameer Nelson had back to back buckets in the first minute. A solid Performance from Steve Francis saw him have 9 pts and 5 asts at half time, while Christe was able to hold LeBron James to only 6 points.
The 2nd half saw Cleveland start well, with James dominant in the 3rd qrt, but Orlando was able to hold onto the match, thanks to some solid efforts from Josh Smith and Jameer Nelson off the bench. The magic ended up winners 89-83.

HOME VS
11/11/04 Game 3: Home vs New Jersey
The Orlando Magic now had the task of playing the New Jersey Nets, who had some of the most dominant guards in the game. Tonight Orlando started with the upper hand, and blew out to have a early lead, but the Nets pegged back and got to within 1 at qtr time. Steve Francis had been dominant early with 6 pts, 4 reb and 3 ast in the quarter. The 2nd qtr was very even and both team scored 23 points, and the gap remained at 1 at half time. The 3rd qtr belong to the Nets, with Vince Carter and Jason kidd both scoring 8 pts, and giving New Jersey a 7 point lead at 3 qtr time. But the magic shot back and outrscored the Nets 30 to 14 in the last, and came away with a 9 point win. Dwight Howard showed his moves in the last, registering 8 pts and 4 reb to secure the win.

HOME VS
Game 4: Home vs Los Angeles Lakers
Well after 3 strait wins the magic were feeling happy about themselves and their match against the now 'weakened' lakers. However, Kobe Bryant had a different opinion about the matchup.
"Yea so we lost Shaq, bit deal. Everyone around the league thinks that we are weak, well let them think that, just don't continue thinking that after we beat you!".
After this burst from Kobe, the magic were expecting the lakers to come out firing in the early minutes, and they did just that. With the opening 6 points going the lakers way, Orlando was looking shakey, but some solid play from Kelvin Cato with 4 pts and 6 reb,saw Orlando re-take the lead at qtr time. The 2nd qtr saw a much better start from the magic with Jameer Nelson and Josh Smith coming off the bench and lifting the pace of the game. They continued to put the lakers under pressure and led at the half by 7 pts.
But what has been common in the early games, the magic were slow starters after the break, with Kobe Bryant and Chucky Atkins getting on top with 6 and 8 pts respectivley in the 3rd qtr. Now the magic were down by 2 pts at the break, and with the momentum with the Lakers they needed to find something special, the answer: Steve Francis. Francis was just a dominant force in the last qtr, notching up 6 pts and 7 asts. But an even better highlight was when Steve made the winning lay up with 2.3 seconds left in the game, thus handing Orlando with a 1 point win.
