Defending Champs Down Warriors
Wizards 67 Warriors 66

The first quarter looked ugly as Golden State shot 23% from the floor and turned the ball over. Luckily, they held the defending champs, Washington, to 40% from the field and trailed 7 after one, 15-8.
Things turned aroud quickly in the second when Mike Dunleavy took over, scoring 15 points in the quarter. Shooting a whopping 77% from the field in the second, the Warriors took a three point lead to the half, 35-32. Also at the half, Warriors rookie Abrose Hawken had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.
The Warriors came blazing out of the gates in the third as Troy Murphy dumped in 10 more points. Both teams shot over 50% from the field in the third quarter, but some solid defense turned in by the bench in the final 2:00 minutes allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 6, 54-48.
Returning the favor from the third quarter, the Wizards came out shooting well and forcing back to back turnovers. The Wizards had the ball up one with 15 seconds to go when Arenas turned the ball over. With 10 seconds to go, Claxton missed a jumper, and Dunleavy couldn’t make the put back, A tough loss for the Warriors, but encouraging because they showed they could stay with the defending champs. Final score, 67-66 Wizards.

Boston edges Warriors 89-83

Boston edges Warriors 89-83
Once again the Warriors offense ssruggled in the first quarter against the Boston Celtics, trailing 22-14 after one. The Warriors shot well from the field, over 50%, but they didn’t take care of the basketball and turned it over 7 times compared to Boston’s 1. Dunleavy led the Warriors with 4, Payton led the Celtics with 7.
The Warriors played much better in the second quarter as they managed to cut the defecit to 3 at the half, 39-36. Reasons behind the better second quarter was better defense by the guards, and the Warriors limited their turnovers. Richardson led the Warriors with 8 points , while Payton and Ricky Davis led the Celtics with 4.
Boston looked to be on the ropes early in the third quarter as the Warriors jumped out to a 7 point lead, but they managed a run when then bench came in and had a 60-57 lead going into the fourth. Dunleavy led the Warriors with 8 points, while Pierce led the Celtics with 6, During the third quarter, the Warriors went 3/8 from the line.
Panic set in quickly in the fourth when Boston started the quarter on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 9. A three by Dunleavy cut the lead to 6, then Richardson stole a pass and dished of to Dunleavy for another 3. With 48 seconds left, Dunlaevy tied the game with free throws, but a Boston jumper put them ahead for good as the Warriors couldn’t execute on the offensive end. Final score Boston 89 Golden State 83.

Trade

Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:11 am

In an effort to increase the productivity off the bench, the Golden State Warriors traded thier rookie Walt Lue to the L.A. Clippers for sharp shooter Kyle Korver. This will also increase thier 3 point firepower because before accquiring Korver, Derek Fisher was thier best three point shooter.

Additionally i have moved the quarter legnth to 10 minutes.

Warriors Topple Lakers

Mon Jan 31, 2005 7:54 am

Warriors (1-2) Topple Winless Lakers
Warriors 121 Lakers 115

For the Golden State Warriors it was a tale of two halves. In the first half they looked terrible on defense as time and time again the Lakers drove into the lane for easy buckets. They had just as much trouble on offense as they kept turning the ball over or getting their shots blocked. On the up side, Troy Murphy had a strong first half with 12 points and 5 rebounds.
The second half was almost the complete opposite for the Warriors. Switching to a 3-2 shifting zone seemed to puzzle the Lakers offense. Forcing the Lakers into jump shots, the Warriors clawed back into the game and acually led going into the third quarter, the first time this year they have led after any quarter. Pushing their lead to double digits, the Warriors coasted to 121-115 victory against the winless Lakers. Kobe Bryant didn’t play in the 4th quarter because of foul truoble and Speedy Claxton fouled out with 2 minutes to go.
Key Players:
Golden State
Mike Dunleavy – 29pts, 6rbds, 3blks
Kyle Korver – 25pts off the bench
Troy Murphy – 21pts, 15rbds
Jason Richardson – 23pts, 4rbds, 4ast
L.A.
Caron Butler – 26pts
Devean George – 25pts
Kobe Bryant – 16pts

Warriors win

Warriors Upend Hornets
Warriors 121 Hornets 107

The Warriors came out strong against the Hornets playing strong defense and using balanced scoring. They managed to force 5 turnovers and amazingly didn’t commit any, but they did get some shots blocked. While the Hornets shot very well from the field, their 20% free throw percentage didn’t help them. After one the Warriors led 35-24.
After watching the second quarter it was abudnatly clear that trading for Kyle Korver was a brilliant move by the Golden State GM. The Hornets came out strong in the second quarter and actually cut the lead to 4 before the Warriors managed to stop the bleeding. Up 2 with 1:40 left in the half it looked like their first quarter lead was about to disappear. Then Korver entered the game and scored the Warriors final nine points of the half giving them a 63-52 half time lead.
After three quarters the Warriors led 93-80, extending their lead by just two points. While winning a quarter by just 2 points doesn’t look that significant, for the Warriors it was very much so. They played just enough defense to hold onto their lead while getting solid bench play from Korver and Derek Fisher. Whenever the Hornets tried to make a run, Dunleavy or Richardson would answer with a big bucket keeping them at bay.
Entering the fourth quarter the Warriors knew they were in command and their play showed it. Unlike in L.A., where they let a double digit lead get dwindled down at the end of the game, the Warriors actually increased their lead. Thew closest the Hornets got was ten before Claxton stole the ball and coasted for an easy layup. The Warriors won their second straight, 121-107.
