The new big three: Arenas, Hughes, Jamison

Sat Jan 15, 2005 2:09 pm

The Wizards are the real deal this year. Arenas, Hughes, and Jamison are unstoppable. I really feel sorry for the Warriors because they had these three players at one point but failed to succeed. The three of them each could possible average more than 22ppg.

21-13 so far.. playoffs here we come.

They're looking pretty solid. Haywood and Jeffries have stepped up a bit by the looks of things, and with bench players like Jarvis Hayes and Juan Dixon (both of whom would be averaging like 18ppg if they were playing for Charlotte... or Atlanta) they're a pretty solid unit. Hopefully they'll have a good run in the play-offs (if they maintain this form), because I think it'd be interesting to watch... they could surprise a few teams.

Washington has finally come around... since when i followed them a bit (when MJ came back) they didnt have the depth to make the playoffs... now they are a freakin awesome team!

Kwame has to go though, his talent is wasting...

I am very suprised with their play this year
They are actually a team that I like now (Y)

Jamison might finally be able to shake the label of a player who can put up great numbers on bad teams. I know he went to the playoffs with Dallas last season but he wasn't in the same role as a Warrior or a Wizard.

SportsLine's Top Trios
1.Phoenix: Stoudemire, Nash, Marion
2.Sacramento: Webber, Stojakovic, Bibby
3.Washington: Arenas, Jamison, Hughes
4.L.A. Clippers: Brand, Maggette, Simmons
5.Miami: O'Neal, Wade, Haslem
6.Dallas: Nowitzki, Finley, J.Howard
7.San Antonio: Duncan, Parker, Ginobili
8.Detroit: Hamilton, B.Wallace, Billups
9.Denver: Martin, Anthony, A.Miller
10.Cleveland: James, Ilgauskas, Gooden

i'd put James trio above Melo's trio....

LeBron on his own > K-Mart, Melo and Andre Miller

I don't know why people are surprised, but I guess they would be since people just looked at last years record and see oh they lost without looking at the massive injuries, and the Stack bug.

Anyways, Hughes' play has just been amazing he's actually been playing more point than Arenas has, but he's averaging almost 6 rebounds and 6 assists a game, and averaging 20| points a game. He's also leading the league in steals, and his man to man defense has just been great. He's also been very clutch in terms of 4th quarter scoring.

Arenas has also done great, the injury obviously hurt him last season, but his decision making has improved, he's a top efficient offensive player in the league, one of the leaders as a guard in offensive efficiency. His turnovers are down, and he's a very underatted shooter. Arenas has also been a clutch beast for the team, he's hit so many big shots down the stretch, his man to man defense is his problem.

Jamison has been Jamison, he's been a little dissapoiting, he shoots from the outside too much, and his defense is bad like it's always been, he's a good player, but the worst of the 3. He's also been anti-clutch for the most part this season, and he's no playmaker.

The biggest impact player on the teams success would have to be Haywood though, the team is better defensively with him on the floor, and he's changes the game for the team defensively and with offensive rebounding. Haywood should play 30+, he's no where near the best player on the team , but without him the Wiz wouldn't win so much.

Jared Jefferies has been good defensively, and okay offensively, but his defense is the most important aspect of his game.

Juan Dixon the chucker has helped in some games, but he shouldn't even play, and Jarvis Hayes no defense and quick fire attitude is a little annoying. Michael Ruffin along with Hayes are Eddie Jordan's favourite children as he seems to play them way too much. Ruffin hurts the team offensively, and is short so isn't a defensive presence, and Hayes just plays no defense and jacks up shots, but EJ loves them.

Sun Jan 16, 2005 5:57 am

Ruffin is a good player. He doesn't need to take shots because there are other offensive weapons. He's a rebounder and a shot blocker.

Sun Jan 16, 2005 6:22 am

Yes I was a supporter of Ruffin on the RealGM Wizards board when he was signed because I know he's not offense, but defense and rebounding, but when he's taking minutes from Haywood, I'm not happy with that.

He plays at times he shouldn't play, and on a net production basis, he isn't really helping the team.

I think people are surprised because the same trio of Jamison, Hughes, and Arenas played on the same team a few years again, but didn't have as much sucess. But then again... they were less experienced and younger, not to mention having a weaker supporting cast.

Sun Jan 16, 2005 10:11 am

How do you manage to get success with Arenas, Hughes, and Jamison? Move them to the Eastern conference.. :)

Sun Jan 16, 2005 2:43 pm

or surround them with offensively inept players.....more ball for all :D

You said it yourself, Jamison has matured, that's the biggest improvement he's made. Arenas has matured leaps and bounds, he's also advanced his game, before he was mainly a shooter in terms of how he scored, now he can get to the line, and add that to his shooting ability, and he's even deadlier.

Hughes' defense has improved massively on and off the ball, his shot has improved, his rebounding is up, his passing has improved, I mean every aspect of hsi game as improved really.

Also when they were together as Warriors, it was a little different because Arenas was a rookie then, and Hughes was being played at PG. Hughes left the next year, and the trio was Arenas, Jamison, Richardson. Hughes is a much better player than Richardson was for them back then, the gap is enourmous, and Arenas has gotten much better himself.

Play really fast paced so the jackers, Juan Dixon who's been clutch lately, and Jarvis Hayes can also get their shots in along with Jamison, Hughes and Arenas

I underestimated the Wizards this year because even though they have talent, I didn't think it would work out because of chemistry. Looks like they're breaking through that shell. Let's hope it keeps up (y)

Sun Jan 16, 2005 5:14 pm

Does anyone think Jamisons maturity improvement might have something to do with having to accept a 6th man role at Dallas? Alot of people weren't sure he'd be able to do that, but he did.

Sun Jan 16, 2005 5:17 pm

wizards= this year Denver Nuggets.
1 player ( jamison=anthony) helps to turn around a franchise that's been struggling. Good to see them finally winning though. Seems like they will replace the bucks in the playoff picture this year. (Y)

Sun Jan 16, 2005 6:05 pm

Not even close at all lol, last year Arenas played 55 games and was injured in half the games he played, Hughes played 61 games, and Stackhouse played 26 games and was also injured in half the games he played. All those three guys were on the court together in like 1 game the whole season.

The Wizards were a 40-45 win playoff team last season if they were healthy, so Jamison didn't turn them around, you just aren't going to win when your 3 best players miss an average of 35 games in the season.

Like I said, most people didn't really know why the Wizards were losing, just looked at the record and thought, yup they're a bad team.

A lot of people actually felt that was on of the main reasons, it kind of humbled him to become a 6th man.

Mon Jan 17, 2005 1:10 am

Jamison is an improvement of Stackhouse because he doesn't bitch about the minutes he's getting (although Stack has had to accept that role for the Mavs) and stops hogging the ball.

Mon Jan 17, 2005 3:04 am

Yea and he also doesn't need the ball in his hands to score since Stackhouse couldn't really shoot and had to dribble and get to the line to score. I hated Stackhouse last season, I still remember the Boston game where he killed the team in crunch time because he decided to take all these shots which he just kept missing.
